Evacuation drill last week
Last week we held an Evacuation drill on both sites. Engaging in regular simulations that allow students an understanding of what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency are extremely important for the health and safety of all. The evaluation went well, and feedback was gathered after the drill to ensure procedures continue to be efficient and effective. We will hold a lockdown drill later this term.
National Reconciliation Week
Over the last week classes have engaged in discussions and activities to acknowledge National Reconciliation Week. ‘We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.’ (Reconciliation Australia Website).
Music Camp
This afternoon I look forward to spending some time at Music Camp in Galston. Thank you to the parent led Music Camp Committee for organising this wonderful experience for our students. Thank you also to the staff who gave up their personal time to attend camp and supervise students.
Homework Review
Please watch out for an upcoming parent/ carer survey on Homework which will hopefully be available in the next newsletter. We want to review our current Homework Policy and would like input from our parent community to help inform the process.
Warm Regards

Principal
Transition to School Bytes

As you would be aware, we are transitioning to School Bytes as our centralised platform, currently in use for payments, permission notes and receiving academic reports.
At the end of next week (Friday 7 June), we will be using School Bytes as our main form of communication to you, our community, and decommissioning SZapp (this app). This will allow for a more streamlined system of communication from one centralised system = less apps for you!
How to access School Bytes;
- Method 1 - Parent Portal - accessed via this link: https://portal.schoolbytes.education
- Method 2 - Parent App
Follow this link if you would like instructions on how to set up the School Bytes Parent Portal.
If you need assistance in turning on your notifications, please follow this link.
PSSA has started
On Friday our PSSA teams represented PHPS in their first games of netball and soccer for the season at Greenway Park. All students demonstrated great sportsmanship and played hard – well done to you all! Thank you to the teachers who volunteer to coach, train and umpire/referee our teams – we couldn’t do it without you!

K-6 Rugby
Also on a Friday, all students have the opportunity to participate in a rugby skills program, which has proven very popular for students K-6. Last week, our younger students learnt how to fall safely, ‘like a prawn’, students also undertook passing and catching games and a lot of running! They are always very active sessions. We are very fortunate to have NSW Rugby join us for these few weeks, we are the only school in the area that has undertaken this program in the last 8 years – go Penno!

Music Camp
Our music campers were off and away on Sunday afternoon! Quite weary eyed when I was able to pop in on Monday morning and their performance on Tuesday afternoon was just spectacular! Well done everyone! Thank you to all of the amazing parents who organised the music camp, hours and hours of organisation went into it. Also a mammoth thank you to our amazing teaching staff who braved the nights with the students and spent time away from their own families to ensure everything ran smoothly. You are amazing Mrs Griffith, Ms Stevens, Miss Nelson, Mrs McLoghry, Miss Pinnuck and Miss Dy.

At-School Camp
While some of our students attended Music Camp, the 3-6 students who remained at school were also in for a treat! They had at-school camp activities to look forward to and they have all had an amazing time! Thank you Mrs McLaren for all of your organisation and to our teaching and support staff for their flexibility and positivity in providing our students such wonderful experiences.

3/4R
I was lucky enough to take the Year 4 students from 3/4R last week for a mathematics lesson. The mathematical language that the students were applying was truly amazing! They did a wonderful job at using directional language to direct their partner to an item within the room and then used coordinates to identify animals on a map of the zoo. Thank you 3/4R for having me, I look forward to coming back again soon!
Kind Regards

Congratulations to our amazing PHPS students, staff and parent for a fabulous music camp.
All students had a wonderful 3 days, singing, playing, performing and even got a little sleep.
Teddy’s sister, Astrid, made her first ever visit to PHPS on Thursday 23rd May.
She met the K-2 students before the 9.15am bell with Teddy and then she met the 3-6 students, at recess.
The students were very quick to draw comparisons between Teddy and Astrid:
- Teddy is bigger
- Astrid is shinier
- Teddy is more ‘crinkly’
- Astrid is much keener for food than Teddy
- Are they really brother and sister..???!?
- How did they get to be soooooo cute??
She was very popular! And Astrid loved meeting everyone

We are going PINK next week!!
Together with the whole school, the canteen is going PINK in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Both myself and my mother were diagnosed with breast cancer last year, so this is a cause that is very close to my heart. The NBCF does vital work to improve the detection, treatment and outcomes for breast cancer patients. I know this firsthand, so I will be going even more pink than usual!
We will be offering some delicious and fun pink foods, both over the counter (both sites) and through Flexischools. There will be pink Mac“n”Cheese, pink Hummus, Berry Yoghurt Pops, Fun Buns, Watermelon Jelly, Sour Strawberry Snap Stix (Ice Blocks) and more!!
Please remember to click on the “Stage 3 PSSA” Alert when placing Friday lunch orders if your child is in stage 3 and plays PSSA sport. You will find it at the top of the menu.
We are still in need of more volunteers to help with lunchtime counter sales at both sites.
K-2 - Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
3-6 - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
It is only from 1-1.50pm. It’s not hard at all and there are no special skills required!!
If you would like to help out please contact Claire Phillips - 0403 810 391.
