Reports
Semester Two reports will be sent home Monday 7 December. This year the report format has changed slightly to provide families with more information about their child’s progress. An added benefit is that it has greatly reduced the time for teachers to collate a student’s report.
This is a sample of what the report format will look like and what each section means for you as a parent.
Stage 3 Gala Day
A lot of stage 3 students participated in the Beecroft Zone PSSA Gala Day yesterday at Pennant Hills Park. The boys played soccer and the girls played netball, with both sports being supported by their governing bodies. Covid-19 has seen this cohort miss out on so many opportunities that it was great to be able to participate in something to allow them that experience. Thanks to Mrs Ford and Mr Bryant for their organisation and Beecroft Zone for organising this event. With so many stakeholders involved arranging it and meeting everyone’s Covid-19 guidelines was a huge task. Congratulations to both the Boy’s A team and Girl’s A team as they both ran second on the day. Well done and thank you to all involved for a great day for the students.
Stage 2 Excursion
Today Year 4 headed off to Botany Bay National Park to see firsthand the area where Captain Cook first arrived in Australia. Stage 2 have been studying The First Fleet and that era of Australia’s history. This excursion will only add to what they have been learning. Year 3 will head off on Thursday to explore the same area.
Thank You
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Smith Family Christmas Toy and Book Appeal
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
We have collected a total of 315 toys and 116 books for the Smith Family Toy and Book Appeal to support the Smith Family in ensuring disadvantaged Australian children receive a gift this Christmas. Well done Penno – you’ve done it again! Your generosity is second to none and you can not be thanked enough. Below are Year 5 and Year 6 contributions.
Around the School
4M
Stage 2 are working on an engaging mathematics project, where they have been assigned the task of designing the School Fete with Covid restrictions – no easy task and many multi-step processes and calculations need to be accurately achieved to ensure an accurate proposal. Below you can see 4M working hard at their planning, calculating the costs of rides and ensuring that their ticket pricing is not only value for money but also going to make a profit. Nice work 4M!
You’re never too old for picture books
It was awesome to see 5N so heavily engaged in the online story of Magic Beach. Not only one of my (and my children’s) all time favourite books but a high-quality text full of literary devices that provoke wonderful imagery and connections to text, particularly with the back and forth between reality and imagination. With such quality language, alliteration and rhythm, it is a highly recommended text for kids (and adults) of all ages.
Blackout Poetry
5P were about to begin work on their Blackout Poetry when I arrived at their room. They eagerly explained that Blackout Poetry is created when you read a text and black out the text that appears insignificant, thereby highlighting the ‘anchor’ text as it remains with a white background. Each student chose a piece of text to begin their extraction of anchor words. Please find below some examples of their wonderful work.
Year 6 Gala Day
Due to Covid restrictions this year, PSSA was unable to be run. As an alternative, Year 6 students were offered the opportunity to compete in the Year 6 sport gala day where they could participate in either soccer or netball on Monday. Thank you to the teachers for organising this experience for the students and great work Year 6, a great day! The netball and soccer A teams were runners up for the day.
Thank You
Kind Regards

Student borrowing
Borrowing has now finished for the year so it is now time for all books to be returned so that the library can be organised for the coming year. Next week, overdue book reminders will be sent out so have a good look under the beds, bookshelves and anywhere else you think they may be.
If your child should receive a reminder and you can’t find the book please let me know so we can double-check the shelves. It is amazing how some books just miraculously make their own way back to the library!
Scholastic Book Club
A reminder that the closing date for Issue 8 online orders is tomorrow - Wednesday 25 November. To order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you haven’t already done so and pay by credit card.
The catalogue can also be viewed online at https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/.
Update on Issue 7 backorders
Unfortunately, some students are still waiting for items that they ordered from Issue 7. This year, Scholastic Australia has experienced some delays with their suppliers, however, these orders should arrive next week.
Thank You

The COMMUNICATIONS Team NEEDS YOU!
The P&C’s Communications Group is looking for interested parents who can assist with sharing information, networking, and event planning in 2021. The P&C is a volunteer organisation, and our Comms Group would welcome anyone who can assist us in any capacity – whether it’s coordinating one of the many initiatives on our calendar, promoting the events or just assisting on the day. Please contact us now at phppandc@gmail.com if you can help!
FAIRY LIGHTS WANTED PLEASE!
We still need lots of fairy lights to make a very special “Enchanted Evening” for the Year 6 Farewell 2020. If you can spare some for a few days, please label them clearly and drop them into 33 Ramsay Road, Pennant Hills (there will be a plastic tub outside the door). Lights will be returned to you after the farewell. Thank you!
GREEN TEAM BASC UPDATE - by Calum Waldegrave
The kids and carers at BASC have been putting into practice, the art of living sustainably, as part of the My Time Our Place framework!
Whilst sustainable practices are much more than just garden beds, the creation of these during our holidays and the subsequent caring for them, has led to many curious children taking interest and forming a mutual ownership over our variety of plants and vegetables we are growing. Sustainable education is important, but it cannot be done without us looking to understand our need and relationship with the rest of the natural world! Take a look at some of our outcomes!
Our final P&C Meeting of the year will be next Tuesday 1st December at 7.30 pm via Zoom. Please check next week’s newsletter for login details. We hope you can join us,
