Celebration of Learning/Year 6 Graduation
Tomorrow’s assembly for our wonderful Year 6 students will mark the end of their primary school years. Each and every student has accomplished so much on their journey to date and I for one cannot wait to see what their next chapter brings.
Due to Covid-19 we have needed to do things a little differently this year to meet the required guidelines. One Year 6 parent will be able to attend the assembly and unfortunately we are not able to have parents on site in the afternoon for the traditional clap out. There are more specific details about tomorrow’s assembly in Mrs Griffith’s section of the newsletter. I thank you all in advance for following the advice and guidelines we have received for these types of events and apologise for any distress.
Congratulations Year 6! Enjoy high school and all it has to offer and live your dreams.
Primary Mathematics Specialist Teacher Initiative 2021-2022
PHPS has been successful through a rather rigorous expression of interest process to participate in the Primary Mathematics Specialist Teacher Initiative. The aim of this initiative is to upskill staff from our school to improve the practice of all the staff. This improvement is based upon research based evidence. The NSW DoE is funding one of our teachers and the school is funding a second. This is a wonderful opportunity as there are only 30 primary schools selected to be a part of the process. Thanks to Mr Mark Anderson for his initial nomination. Staff are very excited about this opportunity. During next year I will be able to share more information about this program with the community.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Tomorrow marks the last day of an incredible school year and what a year it has been. Congratulations to all the students for all their successes throughout the year. Each and every day you continue to amaze us.
I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please travel safely wherever you may go and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2021. Students return to school on Friday 29 January next year. The school’s office will open on Wednesday 27 January 2021.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank You
Kind Regards
MR Matt Pinchbeck
Principal

T4 DAY 2020 - HIGHLIGHT ON HIGH SCHOOL
Last week our Year 6 students experienced a little taster of high school. Each student received a mock high school timetable to follow, beginning with roll call in their ‘home room’ class.
To make use of the wide variety of skills and hobbies represented by our Year 6 students, we decided to select 9 teams of students to become teachers for the day, delivering clear learning outcomes in a style of their choosing.
As a result, the day was dubbed ‘T4 Day’ (Teacher for the Day).
The classes were allocated randomly to ensure even attendance and each student received a timetable that required them to move room every 30 minutes.
Our ‘Teachers for the Day’ did an amazing job presenting their subjects in an interesting, coherent and practical fashion.
The only request from the newest teaching recruits at PHPS was that they be allowed to use the staffroom to eat following a busy morning of teaching.
President’s Message
Wow, what a year! I can’t believe it’s the last week of school! I’d like to take this opportunity to say some important thank you’s:
First, to our amazing Year 6 kids, congratulations and good luck as you head off to high school next year. You have all been excellent representatives and ambassadors to our school and made us all proud! Good luck in your future years and I hope you always remember your days at PHPS.
We also bid a sad farewell to some families who have been here for many years. Special thanks in particular to long time P&C subcommittee members Dayan and Duncan McLeod, Greg Hammond, Jen Manning, Phil and Liz Young, Brett and Kim Goschalk, The Lings, The Ninesses, as well as all our many wonderful Year 6 families who are leaving us this year. There are families who have been heavily involved in band, strings, Fete and other P&C initiatives, and have contributed so much of their time and effort over the years. We wish you all the very best in the future and thank you so much to all our families leaving this year, for what you have done and achieved for our school!
Thanks also to all the sub-committee Convenors, committee members, Alison in the Uniform shop and Heather and Catherine in the canteen. To our music program conductors and committee members thanks for another great year and a job well done by all of you.
A very special thanks to all our Communications Team and Class Parents. It’s been a very difficult year with lots of information being passed around and they did a tremendous job all year. Well done team, you really kept the community informed and together during all the confusion.
A big thank you to Mr Pinchbeck, Mrs Wasson, Mrs Griffith and all the staff at PHPS. This has been a huge year with many ups and downs. We sometimes forget that you too have families and are also trying to navigate this crazy year. Thanks for making the effort to get the kids to camp, for putting on the assemblies and dances etc and giving our kids as much as they could possibly get from this year. Although we don’t always show it, we appreciated all that you’ve all done this year. We also say goodbye to Ms Donna Lee, Mr Thompson, Miss Paterson, Mrs McSweeney and Mrs Cox as they leave our school. Good luck in your retirements and future endeavours and thank you for everything you’ve done for our school.
This is my final year as President of our P&C. After almost 4 years I’d love to thank our amazing executive team from this year. Dayan McLeod, Dan Saunders, Russell Nicholson, Mick Wilkin, Chris Kulatunga, Damon Murray, Calum Waldegrave, Luke Whenman, Peta Powrie, Mark Teutsch and Dave Collins - a massive thank you for all of your support, long hours and commitment because without you we wouldn’t have achieved all that we do. You are an amazing team and an absolutely fantastic bunch of people to work with. Your incredible work ethic and love for the school and our awesome community is truly appreciated.
Finally, from my family to yours, we hope you all have a fantastic safe and Merry Christmas. Whether you stay home or finally get the chance to get away with family or friends, be safe and have an awesome holiday. See you all next year.
