National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June every year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021; More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Music Camp
What a success!
I was lucky enough to call in this morning whilst the children were having breakfast. Whilst chatting with most of the students it was evident that they were having a great time and had learnt so much. I was able to spend time with each of the groups as they participated in lessons with the music tutors. Each group sounded so impressive, it was difficult to believe that the music was being created by primary school children.
Thank you so much to all the tutors, conductors and parents who have given their time to support all the students involved in the school’s music program. Special thanks needs to go to Mrs Griffith, Mrs Whalan and Mrs Matheson for their amazing organisation to ensure the camp was a huge success.
I am sure the students will have some great stories to share when they return to school this afternoon.
Zone Cross Country
Last week 40 students from PHPS represented our school at the Beecroft Zone PSSA Cross Country carnival at Fagan Park. It was a fantastic day for the students and the weather was just perfect for the carnival. Congratulations to all our students who made it to the Zone carnival. At the carnival they had to compete against 20 other schools, meaning each age group had approximately 105 competitors. Miss Steel and Mr Bryant accompanied the students and spoke very highly of our students and all aspects of the day. It was great to see so many parents attend the carnival to support the students. We had several students who performed outstandingly well on the day and will now represent Beecroft Zone PSSA at the upcoming Sydney North PSSA Cross Country carnival.
These students are Kate C (Year 3), Kate H and Christian P (Year 5), Hannah Q (Year 6). We wish them the best of luck at the Area carnival.
Student Achievement
Yesterday afternoon Beecroft Zone PSSA conducted the Rugby Union trials for our Zone. We had three boys attend the trials from Year 6; Campbell, Zandre and Flinn. All the boys gave their best effort and had a good time trialling against their peers from the other schools. Campbell and Flinn were both successful at this trial and will now progress to the Sydney North trial next Monday. Well done boys and good luck at the next trial.
Demountable Refurbishment
Starting at the end of Week 8 (Sat 12 June) some of the school’s demountables will undergo a refurbishment of sorts. Those with the box guttering will be getting new roof and guttering and will also be painted externally. Most of the work that could directly impact students will either take place on a weekend or in the first week of the school holidays. However, the K-2 office will be temporarily moved during Week 9 and the K-2 Administration building is also getting a new roof, gutters and external painting. For Week 9 the K-2 office will be located in the school’s hall. There will be signs around to ensure everyone is aware. We ask that everyone is mindful of these works taking place and thank everyone for their patience and understanding. All our normal processes will continue, however, the office will be in a different place for the four days after the long weekend.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Music Camp 3-6
From Sunday afternoon and for Monday and Tuesday this week, many students from Years 3-6 are attending the Music Camp at the Crusaders function centre in Galston. I was lucky enough to be able to pop out to see the camp in action. What an amazing experience for these students. Thank you to our wonderful parents and teachers for organising the event and giving up their family time to support the camp.
School Camp 3-6
While some students are attending Music Camp, the rest of 3-6 have been involved in School Camp for the last 2 days. I asked many students yesterday afternoon if they had had a great day and the majority of responses were – YES! They loved rotating around to different teachers with different curriculum based activities. We had drama, dance, sport, paper plane making, spheros, visual arts, music, STEM and ozobot activities just to name a few! Thank you to Mrs Ford and Ms Maginnis for organising and to all the teachers for ensuring the students who weren’t attending Music Camp had a wonderful time here at school.
DigiTech/STEAM Team Update – P&C meeting
Our DigiTech/STEAM Action Group leaders, Mrs Reid and Ms Stevens will be providing you with an update on the professional learning of our staff and some of the digital technology devices available across the school during the P&C meeting tonight. Please see the P&C section of the newsletter for further details.
Wellbeing Week
This week is our staff wellbeing week. The executive team took on feedback regarding teacher workload, including many meetings every week. Last year we began the Wellbeing week initiative, where one week every term, all meetings before and after school are postponed. Currently, our teaching staff are involved in a whole school communication meeting Monday mornings every fortnight, weekly stage meetings, weekly Teacher Professional Learning sessions on Tuesday afternoons and often a Learning and Support Team meeting, an Action Group meeting and an Executive meeting if they are part of those teams, that is before any parent meetings occur. We are lucky to have an amazing bunch of hard-working teachers at PHPS, so if you don’t see them around as much this week, it’s because they are looking after their wellbeing.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson

President’s Message
Hi All
Last week I was able to attend the Kindy open day and meet some of the new families who will be joining the school next year. Thank you to Mrs Coventary for the invitation and it was fantastic to see all the aspects of the PHPS community on display as the band, choir and dance groups all had an opportunity to perform.
This week many of our children are attending Music camp. A very special thank you to our Band committee, the parent helpers and of course the PHPS teachers for making the camp happen. I had two very excited kids who couldn’t wait to get there!
A reminder that the P&C meeting this week (Tuesday 7.30pm) will be held via Zoom to allow some more people to dial in. We will continue to alternate between in person and Zoom in 2021, pending any further COVID restrictions.
Have a great week.
Luke
Trivia Night Save the Date - Friday 29 October
Thanks to the parents who dialled in for the Trivia Night information session last Thursday, it was great to hear your ideas and input for this fun and social event for parents planned for Term 4!
We are currently looking at venues for the Trivia Night in the local area. To ensure we book a venue that can cater for all parents who would like to attend we ask that you indicate if you’d like to attend here.
To make this event happen we need plenty of volunteers! Choose how you’d like to help (in the capacity you can manage) eg raffle, setting up, decorations… Volunteers Information is here
Eco Warrior update from K-2 by Ms Bridget Dwyer, Class Teacher
The Eco Warriors on K-2 are keen beans! We have been talking about and actioning bringing in "nude food", recycling our lunch order bags in the paper bins, composting our fruit and vegetable scraps, utilising our soft plastics bin, as well as our return and earn bins. Keep your eyes peeled for the Eco Warriors around our school and why not start a discussion with your family and friends as to how you can be eco warriors at home.

Covid-19 Operating Protocols
The Uniform Shop has reopened for over the counter sales and service.
However all parents are required to make an appointment before attending the Uniform Shop. This is to ensure that there is no overlapping of families or crowding and queuing at the shop.
All parents will be required to sign in and register at the 3-6 office before coming to the shop for their appointment. As a result of the sign in requirements, the Uniform Shop has had to adjust its operating hours and the shop will now open on Thursday mornings instead of Thursday afternoons.
To make an appointment at the Uniform Shop please use the following link:
