What a First Week Back!
It was fantastic to see our Kindergarten and Year 1 students return to school last week. Throughout the week there were a couple of nervous students but as soon as they entered the classroom with their friends they soon relaxed and enjoyed their day. A huge congratulations to teachers and parents alike for their positive approach to returning to school. It made such a difference to the students. Well done!
This week we welcome Years 2-6 back to school which is magnificent. The hum of students in the classroom was back, and it was amazing. One step closer to ‘normal’. Which is great. Staff will be focussing on wellbeing, literacy and numeracy for the remainder of the year.
Thank you to the entire community for your monumental efforts over the last four months. It has not been easy. However, you have done a fantastic job.
I do have a couple of friendly reminders about our processes around schooling to support everyone:
· School supervision begins at 8:45am (BASC is open if you need supervision before this time)
· All students to bring a drink bottle
· All students to bring a hat for play outside
· Ensure your child knows how they are getting home in the afternoon taking in to account the school procedures for leaving in the afternoon.
Thanks again for all your support.
Year 6 Farewell
Yesterday the NSW Department of Education provided advice to schools on holding the traditional Year 6 Farewell and Graduation Assembly. We can now hold these events following certain guidelines. The Year 6 Farewell will be held on Monday 6 December after school as normal. The event will be held in a very similar format to last year. A note will be sent home very soon to get the ball rolling with this. The Year 6 Graduation Assembly and Celebration of Learning will be held on Wednesday 15 December. Please save the date. As it approaches, we will let you know the outline for the day and how it will proceed.
Kindergarten 2022 Information Night
Last Tuesday night we presented a virtual information session for next year’s Kindergarten families. We had approximately 74 families in attendance which is great. If your child is starting Kindergarten next year and you are yet to enrol, please do so as soon as possible. Doing so assists the school with its planning for 2022. You can access online enrolment by clicking here.
Leaving PHPS at the end of the Year
If you are planning on leaving Pennant Hills PS at the end of this school year, could you please email the school this information. This will greatly assist the school with its planning for 2022. You can email the school at pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au . Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation with this request.
Anaphylaxis
As all students have returned to school it is important to remember that we have many students that are anaphylactic to certain items. The most common foods are peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, and shellfish. We ask that you consider what food you give your child to eat at school due to the possible severe consequences for the chlidren with these allergies. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Opportunity Class Placement Test
The Opportunity Class Placement Test has been rescheduled to Wednesday 17 November 2021. The test will be computer-based test, 60 minutes in total, and sat in one single session.
Where possible the test will be conducted in the students' primary school, and to maintain community safety, the test will be administered by the school's teachers. Alternative testing arrangements will be made where the test cannot be held at the primary school.
Parents will receive 'Test authority' advice by email on Wednesday 3 November 2021 which will confirm where their children will sit the Opportunity Class Placement Test. Parents will also receive a test information bulletin at the same time which will provide further detail about the test including how students can familiarise themselves with a computer based sample test.
A new, modified timeline is being implemented to ensure students can be placed into Year 5 opportunity classes at the beginning of the 2022 school year.
which outlines the new dates for each remaining part of the placement process.
Please continue to check the NSW Department of Education website for current advice for families,
Please log in to your application dashboard and ensure that your contact details and child's current school are up to date. Send a message to the Team through the application dashboard if the school or any other details have changed.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome Back Years 2-6!
Our school was abuzz with excitement and anticipation yesterday morning as we had all students back on site for the first time in 17 weeks! Everyone was in high spirits and eager to see their friends and get back into some face-to-face learning. Well done to all of our families who have managed through Covid life – a credit to you all! Thank you for remembering which gate to come through and following our Covid protocols in terms of arrival times.
The sign fairy paid us a visit overnight to help welcome back our Years 2-6 students! The students loved their sign and a few keen eyes spotted that the sign fairy must’ve had her hands full, misspelling a word.
Below are some images of the students back on site, they’re so happy!

Thank you 1P for writing me a letter about the baby Australian noisy miner birds we have had on site this past week or so. 1P have been observing the development of these birds from the music room, below is their letter.
Dear Mrs Wasson,
We would like to introduce you to our new class mascots.
On Monday last week, there were two baby miner birds in front of our classroom on the path.
On Monday they couldn't fly properly but on Tuesday we saw them glide.
The mother was teaching them how to fly and feeding them.
Over the whole week, they learned how to fly and now they can.
On some days, we could only see one of them but on Wednesday afternoon the other one came down to stay with it.
We saw them try to fly into the tree but they couldn't land.
On Friday, the two little birds were on the pathway and they were making lots of noise and they were chirping in rhythms!
We decided to give them a name.
Their names are Ta and Ti-ti.
Here is their picture.
We hope they have a good life.

If you would like to be more informed about our school targets and priorities and be a part of forming our new Wellbeing policy, please join us for the next P&C meeting, where Mrs Buttrey will run through where our Wellbeing Action Group is up to and conduct a survey to capture your opinion on the school values and merit award systems.

SCHOOL ZONE ROAD SAFETY NEWSLETTER
Please find attached Council’s latest School Zone Road Safety News for term four with a focus on bus safety.
The School Travel Ideas Guide has some Active Travel ideas for schools.
With schools returning to full-time face to face learning it is expected that traffic congestion within and around the school zone will be high. Please park safely and legally when dropping off students and walking to the school gate, and to be mindful of other road users and the surrounding community.
Council always encourages parking and walking for all school zones.
