2022 School Leadership
Last week our wonderful Year 5 students participated in leadership activities in preparation for the upcoming elections for the 2022 leadership team. The students were thoroughly engaged in these activities and it was clearly evident they were excited and passionate about representing their peers.
After the lessons were complete the Year 5 students voted to see which students from Year 5 would form the Top 10 boys and girls to then run a campaign to be a part of the Leadership Group for 2021. Many students received votes, which demonstrates what a great bunch of students we have at Pennant Hills PS. The following students will now run a campaign at school to try and be elected to the Leadership Group (In no particular order).
Boys - Sam K, Nekiah T, Preston G, Archie B, Lucas P, James W, Tom S, Hamish C, Lachlan C, Christian P, Luke N (There are eleven boys as there was a tie for 10th position)
Girls - Charlotte P, Lilly M, Megan C, Tahlia C, Samara M, Meg G, Aadya G, Anabelle R, Chrissie C, Vivian J
We wish them the very best of luck. Once this process is complete, we will begin the process to fill the other leadership roles available, such as Sports Captains, CAPA captains, Computer monitors, librarians and Technology Monitors.
Lest We Forget
This Thursday our school leaders with the assistance of Mrs Donoghue will lead our school’s Remembrance Day commemoration. The commemoration will be delivered virtually to each classroom. It will be a solemn and respectful service paying our respect and pausing to remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans and current serving personnel.
Student Attendance at School
The following are the guidelines that have been provided to all government schools regarding student attendance. I thank you in advance for following these guidelines to ensure the health of everyone associated with our school community.
- All students are expected to be at school unless they are unwell. Do not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms. Get tested for COVID-19 and follow NSW Health directions.
- Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:
- They have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available
- They have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.
- In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
2022 Parent Requests
All parent requests for class placement for 2022 need to be emailed to me via the school email, pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au , by Friday 12 November 2021. I can assure you that all requests will be considered, however, I cannot promise that all requests will be actioned. The forming of our classes goes through a rigorous process consisting of three levels. Firstly, class teachers make recommendations with their grade colleagues about next year’s classes. These staff have been working closely with the students all year and are best placed to make informed decisions to support each students' academic growth. The next step is for the RFF teachers, specialist teachers and Assistant Principals to run their eyes over the classes and discuss any concerns with their grade colleagues. At this step the Assistant Principals may make some changes based on specific knowledge they have. The final step is when Mrs Wasson and myself look at the classes. This process has already begun and classes will not be finalised until the beginning of next year. All students’ needs are considered when forming classes.
Credits and Refunds
Throughout this year there have been some activities that have been cancelled due to the pandemic where parents have already paid. We are in the process of crediting all accounts where applicable. If you are happy for them to remain on your account as a credit, then you do not have to do anything. If you would like a refund please email the school with your child’s name, the activity and request a refund. The office staff will then process this request. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work through all requests. Only activities that were not able to take place will be credited. In some instances, like PSSA, a partial credit or refund will be applied for the weeks where this activity did not take place.
Selective High School Application for 2023
Information is subject to change throughout 2022 because COVID-19 restrictions may affect timing and processes.
REVISIT THIS SITE REGULARLY TO SEE CHANGES THAT MAY OCCUR.
Applications for entry in 2023 will open on 19 October 2021 and close on 17 November 2021. The placement test will be held on 10 March 2022.
Download the printable information for applicants about placement in selective high schools for Year 7 entry (PDF 518KB) .
Late applications will be considered only where documentary evidence can be provided to show that families were affected by extraordinary circumstances which prevented them from applying on time.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions in 2021, primary schools will not be required to provide school assessment scores for the 2022 selective high school placement process for Year 7 entry in 2023. Primary school principals will continue the usual process of confirming information entered by parents in their applications and by adding relevant information on student background, disability and reasonable adjustments.
Kind Regards

President’s Message
Hi All,
Thank you to everyone who joined the November P&C General meeting via Teams last week and to Mr Pinchbeck who provided an update on the return to school plan and recent changes. It was also great to hear from Mrs Wasson, Mrs Van Der Wal, Mrs Buttrey and Miss Newman on the Wellbeing Action group and some plans to evolve the PHPS reward system.
With the recent lifting of restrictions some P&C activities can proceed, and we plan to hold the December General Meeting onsite in the PHPS Hall. Further details on this will be confirmed in the next few weeks but it will be great to end the year in person!
Finally, the P&C are starting to prepare for a return to ‘normal’ in 2022. This will mean we’ll be looking for new faces to join the P&C committees as many of the long standing families have left or are leaving PHPS in 2020 and 2021. There are lots of ways for families to get involved and I’ll provide more information as we head towards the end of the year.
If you would like to subscribe to our P&C meeting emails (minutes and agendas),
please subscribe at the following link: http://eepurl.com/dlK3PD
Have a great week.
Luke Whenman
President, PHPS P&C
Athletics Carnival Orders
Did you place an order for the ill fated K-2 Athletics Carnival that was to take place back in June? Unfortunately this event cannot be rescheduled for this year. If you had placed an order, you should have received a refund from Flexischools late last week. If you have any queries about this please contact Flexischools directly on 1300 361 769 and ask to speak to Colin.
Food Orders
There are no over the counter sales. All ordering must be done through Flexischools; the new cut-off time for ordering is 9am. If you haven’t yet updated your Flexischools App, you will need to update it before ordering.
We will be running without the help of volunteers for the remainder of the year, so we may need to make some changes to the menu to manage this.
Frozen items are available for ordering at both sites, on Fridays only at this stage.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved with the canteen, please contact me.
