Covid Update
Last Monday evening the Minister signed the Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order Amendment (No 1) Order 2022.
The Amending Order (PDF 126KB) amends the Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order to exempt a person who is a close or household contact from the requirement to self-isolate if the person has had COVID-19 in the previous 12 weeks (up from the previous 8 weeks).
This means that if a student or staff member who has recovered from COVID-19 comes into contact with someone with COVID-19 within 12 weeks after they are released, they will generally not need to self-isolate or get a test. They can continue to go to school or work unless they have new COVID-19 symptoms.
Refer to the Response protocols for COVID-19 cases for further information.
Reminder For Those Who Are Close or Household Contacts
If a person in your household tests positive to COVID-19, they must self-isolate away from everyone else in the house for 7 days from the date of their positive test. They must follow the advice for people testing positive to COVID-19 which includes, how to self-isolate effectively. If the person is unable to safely self-isolate by themselves (e.g. due to their young age), a parent or carer should self-isolate with them.
The entire household must also self-isolate for 7 days from the date of the positive person’s test. They should follow the advice for people exposed to COVID-19 and take a test as soon as possible, have another test on Day 6 and at any time COVID-19 symptoms appear.
If another person in your household tests positive to COVID-19, that person must restart their 7 day self-isolation period from the date of their positive test, even if they don’t have any symptoms.
Other household members who test negative, do not need to re-start their 7 day self-isolation period. They also do not have to self-isolate again anytime in the following 14 days unless they test positive.
People who test positive to COVID-19 and complete their 7-day self-isolation period do not have to test or self-isolate as any type of contact for 12 weeks after their release.
Self-isolation means staying at home or at your accommodation. This means you cannot drive your children to school or day care; you must ask someone else to do this. You must only leave self-isolation to get medical care or in an emergency. For more information, read the self-isolation rules.
Remember to please refer parents and carers to the NSW Government’s COVID-19 pages if they have questions or concerns about testing and isolation requirements as this information can change.
If a student or staff member is unwell and has any symptoms they should always test for COVID-19, either with a rapid antigen test (RAT) or PCR (nose and throat swab) test.
If You Are Unwell
If the test comes back negative for COVID-19, the student or staff member should still not return to school until either:
- the student no longer has any symptoms, or
- a medical certificate is provided to the school confirming that symptoms are explained by another diagnosis (such as hay fever).
It is important that students do not attend school if they are unwell, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19. RATs can produce false negative results and symptoms of other illnesses can also be similar to COVID-19, including flu, the common cold and stomach bugs. Health advice is that students who are sick should always stay home to rest and recover and avoid putting other students and staff at risk of getting sick.
A reminder that if a student records a positive RAT, they/their family must register the positive test on the Service NSW website or Service NSW app so they can be linked to important health care support and advice. Please ensure you select your school name when prompted when registering a positive test result for your child.
Rapid Antigen Tests
We are currently still waiting for our delivery of Rapid Antigen Tests to arrive. As soon as they do, we will have them distributed to all students and notify you via the app. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
ANZAC Day Service
Tomorrow we plan to hold our annual ANZAC Day service. This important day allows the students to learn about the sacrifice so many men and women have made to make Australia the country it is today. We thank the students from the band and choir who are going to perform and our school leaders for running the ceremony. It is always a wonderful service and we thank Mrs Donoghue for her organisation once again. The service will begin at 11am on the K-2 site under the COLA. If families wish to attend, please arrive by 10:50am. We ask that you sit behind the students on the silver seats and ask that you to ensure your mobile phone is off during the service.
Canteen
Last Friday Mr Luke Whenman (P&C President) and Heather Tyler opened our wonderful new Canteen. It looks great and I encourage you to have a look next time you are up on site.
April Vacation Holidays
We hope you enjoy the upcoming school vacation period. Whether you stay at home, travel intra or interstate, or even overseas we hope you have a wonderful time. This term has been challenging for everyone as we continue to try and operate as normal as possible during this pandemic. We hope you are able to create lasting memories for you and your family. Staff return to school on Tuesday 26 April for a Staff Development Day. This will be a day filled with Professional Learning opportunities in Reading and Mathematics. Students return to school on Wednesday 27 April.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Around The School
The start of a busy last week of term here at PHPS!
KR have been working with patterns and using a variety of materials to explore and create shape and colour patterns. Excellent work KR!
3R have been looking at codes in Mathematics. This activity not only explores the concept of patterns but students need to have a strong understanding of number concepts to engage in this activity as well as pulling on their visual literacy skills! Love the quality teaching and learning that is happening, all in one activity.
5G have been using the Ozobots to investigate the concept of Area in Mathematics. What an engaging way to incorporate digital technology into an exploratory lesson. Nice work 5G!
What a beautiful day for our first Cross Country practice! The Cross Country will be held towards the beginning of Term 2, so keep practicing over the holidays!
ANZAC Day Service
PHPS will hold their ANZAC day service on Wednesday at 11am under the COLA on the K-2 site. A day of remembrance for all Australians who have died and served in military operations, we are holding our service ahead of the date as it is held during school holidays. It is the first ANZAC service we have been able to have as a whole school in more than 2 years. Lest we forget.
$500 Voucher for Before and After School Care

President’s Message
Hi All
Thank you to everyone who joined the P&C AGM last week. We were pleased to welcome back most of our existing executive team and welcome Mike S and Eva G as new members. I’d also like to thank Mark T as he leaves the team after 3 years. We also confirmed membership for the various subcommittees, with a number of new members and thanked some long standing members as they move on from the school.
At the AGM each of the committees submitted a report from the past year and the theme was rebuilding momentum as we head into 2022. The P&C are looking to host several events in Term 2 and thanks to the families that have already volunteered their time in preparing and planning.
Finally, I had the opportunity to visit Heather, Catherine and Narelle at the new canteen last week. The fit out is very professional and will be a great asset for the school community for many years to come. Thanks to Mr Pinchbeck, the P&C and school community in supporting the project.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe Easter break, see you in Term 2.

Parents or carers who would like to be part of making our school more sustainable, please contact phpsgreenteam@gmail.com.
The CROSS COUNTRY is being held next term on Monday 2 May.
We are holding a Sausage Sizzle for lunch. The sausages will be served on a long roll. If your child would like one please place an order through Flexischools. It is already set up, so you can order now!
Orders close at 5pm Wednesday 27 April.
There are vegetarian and gluten free options, and Sushi is also available to order through Flexischools, as well as drinks and fruit.
We will also have a stall on the day with extra sausages for parents and guests.
The stall will also have juice poppers, watermelon, cocoa bean brownies, small finger buns, chips and popcorn. Chill Js must be ordered through Flexischools.
There will be no other lunch orders on this day.
The canteen would like to be open more often for over the counter sales, but this will be dependent on having enough volunteers to serve. If you would like to help with this please get in touch.
If you have any questoins, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
