COVID Related Information
Over the past two weeks, we have unfortunately seen a slight increase in the number of students/staff impacted by COVID each week, either as close contacts or testing positive. We hope that any family impacted by COVID stays as well as could be and is fit to return after the isolation period. It is important that all families notify the school via our school email or the SZ app, so that it can be recorded.
Pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
It is important that you indicate if your children are isolating as positive COVID cases or as a close contact (remembering that only family members within the same household are considered close contacts). Please remember that all siblings in the household must isolate if a member of the family tests positive, unless they themselves tested positive to COVID within 8 weeks of the case. Please include the start date of isolation in your email to the school.
In the morning, we continue to encourage parents to drop students off at either site, say their good-byes and make their way off the school grounds. In the afternoon, the K-2 site will continue to have their designated pick-up areas for each grade. Parents picking up from the 3-6 site are encouraged to exercise physical distancing and wear a mask if you are unable to do so. Please ensure that you leave the school grounds promptly, once you have collected your child.
It is important that your child knows where you will pick them up in the afternoon or how they will be getting home.
You are welcome to speak with your child's teacher by making an appointment and ensuring you complete the sign-in procedures prior to meeting with the classroom teacher.
Pulse Alive
Tonight, sees the first opportunity in about two years for the students in the Years 3-6 choir to perform. This concert involves many schools, both primary and high schools, with them all coming together at Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park. I know how excited Ms Stevens is about tonight’s performance and we wish the students all the very best of luck. Thank you to all the parents for supporting the Creative Arts program at PHPS that aims to provide students with these wonderful opportunities. We can’t wait to hear from the students on Wednesday about their experiences.
Play Equipment
Over the last few weeks as parents and carers have been able to come on site in the afternoon to collect their child/ren we have noticed some parents taking the opportunity to allow their children to play on the equipment, especially on the K-2 site. We ask that parents do not allow their child to play here after the school day. Our BASC has use of the grounds from 3:15pm and having children play on the equipment makes it extremely difficult for the carers to supervise their students properly. A part of our risk assessment in regards to Covid is having parents collecting their child/ren and leaving the school grounds promptly. I thank you in advance for your support and consideration in this area.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Flood Appeal
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Wow! What an amazing response to our last minute call for food and toiletries to support our neighbours along the Hawkesbury while they recover from severe flooding. We collected a trailer load and two car loads full of donations, I was gobsmacked when I arrived Friday afternoon to pick it up.
The team of volunteers down at Wiseman's Ferry were equally astounded and very grateful for all of the donations. We were informed that even though the flood waters were subsiding, the communities along the Hawkesbury were now dealing with landslides and being water locked with diminished supplies - it's not over yet for them. If you look closely at the second image below you can see how high the waters are crossing the road and the myriad of support, RFS, SES, Army, the firetrucks and a helicopter off to deliver supplies - it was all systems go! Thank you to Hornsby Councillor Salitra for contacting us in regards to the appeal, I knew our community would get behind it! Our community is truly amazing, thank you!
Kindy Parent Info Session
Last Wednesday we ran a parent information session for our Kindergarten parents and carers around Reading with your child at home. Thank you to those who were able to make it, we were very pleased with the attendance! Unfortunately, technology let us down for the morning and we were unable to project the presentation. I am in the process of adding audio to the Google Slides (learning new things everyday!) and will endeavour to add the slideshow to our website once complete. Thank you to Mrs Melissa Coventry for sharing her time and knowledge with us for the morning.
Crazy Socks, Crazy Hair and Tutus!
Our Year 6 Leaders organised a fundraiser last week with the theme of ‘Crazy Socks, Crazy Hair and Tutus!’ What a fun theme! Thank you to those who rocked their socks, hair and tutus, you looked fabulous! See below for some of the amazing outfits.

As stated on the Harmony Week website:
“Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.”
The message of Harmony Week is “everyone belongs”. Orange is the colour chosen to represent this day as traditionally it signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
On Wednesday, 23 March, we are asking students to wear a touch of orange e.g. orange t-shirt, orange socks, orange ribbons, orange shoelaces etc. to show their support for cultural diversity in Australia.
Next week, we look forward to celebrating our multicultural society.

Interested in joining the choir this year?
After a couple of very quiet years, choir is starting up again and we are booked in to participate in the Primary Proms Concerts in the Town Hall and in the Festival of Choral Music in the Opera House later this year.
I have some vacancies for more students in both choirs.
- Weemala Choir is for students in Years 3 and 4 and rehearse on Tuesday mornings in the Hall from 8:00 - 9:00 am.
- Ramsay Choir is for students in Years 5 and 6 and rehearse on Wednesday mornings in the Hall from 8:00 - 9:00 am.
In weeks 9 and 10 this term, there will be “open rehearsals”. If your child is interested in joining the choir, they can come along to the rehearsal and join. I will also ask you to fill in an expression of Interest form which students will receive at the rehearsal or from me during their Music lesson.
Students in Year 3 will need to audition for me at some stage so that I can assess their voice type. The auditions will take place in week 11, details coming later.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me and ask.
See you at the rehearsal.

President’s Message
Hi All
Nice to see some sunshine out for this week! I’m pleased to confirm the revised date for the P&C AGM is Tuesday 29 March at 7:30pm, followed immediately by the March General Meeting. The meeting will be held online and I’ve included the zoom details below. Thank you for everyone’s patience following the postponement earlier in March.
Last week the P&C welcomed Janine Sherlock as the new PHPS Uniform Shop Manager. Janine is a Thornleigh West Public School (TWPS) parent and also manages the TWPS uniform shop. Janine is completing the transition into the role and will be processing Flexischool orders as per normal over the next few weeks.
We’re also excited to have the new canteen completed and handed over to Heather and Catherine last this week. Stay tuned for updates on the canteen!

RETURN & EARN
Why do we have an orange Otto bin at each school site?
These bins are to collect empty drink containers for the Return and Earn program. The containers are put into bags by the Green Team members and are picked up and recycled by Red Frog. Each container earns 10 cents for P&C.
How can I make a positive contribution to the school and the environment?
Any container with 10c on the label can be placed in the orange bins. Please make sure the containers are empty, uncrushed and with straws removed.
Return and Earn items can be easily put in the orange bin by community members when entering the school grounds. It is a great way to teach our children how to recycle and contribute to the community!
Please feel free to join us in this initiative!
Thanks to the students, staff and community members who, over the last 3 years, have put their containers into the orange bins for recycling instead of into general rubbish. This has reduced the amount going into landfill and earned money for the school.
HOORAY!!!!!
The canteen renovation is complete and it looks amazing!! This week we are moving in, getting organised and stocking up.
The canteen should be open sometime next week. We will send an SZapp notification when orders can recommence.
The Butter Chicken has been ordered!!
I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Nozomi Sushi for supplying all of our sushi rolls. They made 158 rolls for us last Friday!!
If you have any questoins, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
