Zone Swimming Carnival
Tomorrow is the Beecroft Zone Swimming Carnival at Sydney Olympic Park. We wish all our competitors the very best of luck in their events. If you are attending as a spectator, please ensure you follow the Covid guidelines for the venue and carnival. A lot of planning has gone in to ensuring it can take place for the students and we hope it is a successful event.
Covid-19
Thank you to all our families for their continued support around Covid-19. We are aware it is challenging for all and whilst the guidelines have moved towards being very similar at school to pre-Covid times there are still going to be some challenges. The big one for the school is the ability to secure casuals when teachers are not able to be on site. This issue is not just being experienced by PHPS. Whilst I would love to be able to say that your child will have their own teacher every day this is not practical, especially during a pandemic. Every effort is taken to try and secure a casual, however, this is not always possible. As a result, our Learning and Support Teachers, EAL/D teachers and RFF teachers from time to time will need to be taken off their specialised program to support the continuity of learning that takes place every day in the classroom. Teachers at PHPS have created their programs to ensure that casuals can come into the school and continue with the class program.
Parking and Driving Around School
Over the last few weeks, I have had a few parents approach me about the safety of students before and after school when walking to and from either site. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the safety of all students. With this in mind I ask all parents to be mindful of their actions during these peak times. Please obey the speed limits and parking signs around the school. Hornsby Council have signposted the area to coincide with their stringent guidelines. These are to ensure everyone’s safety. I thank everyone for ensuring we are working together for the safety of the students.
P&C AGM & Meeting
Tonight at 7:30pm the P&C will be holding their AGM followed by the monthly meeting. In order to vote at the AGM, you must be a financial member. However, you do not need to be a financial member to join the meeting and listen to what is happening around the school. It is a great way to be involved with your child’s education and support the P&C which supports the school and consequently every student. The details for tonight’s meeting is further down in the newsletter in the P&C section. I look forward to seeing you then.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Kindy Parent Information Session – Reading
Raincoats
With predicted rain for days/weeks to come, we remind all of our students to ensure they have a long raincoat in their bag. This is particularly important for the K-2 students who have begun walking up to the library to borrow books, we would hate for the special books that they have picked out to be ruined by water.
Stage 2
Clean Up Australia Day
PHPS is dedicated to a cleaner, safer environment and we are continuing our focus on reducing waste in our community, starting with our own school grounds. On Friday March 4 our students and staff will be participating in Clean Up Australia Day, in a Covid-safe way! More information will be coming your way about the event.

Children can sometimes forget to pick up their belongings, and that's ok! To enable the return of your child's misplaced items, please label everything.
If your child misplaces a clothing item (eg hats, jumpers) it will be placed in one of the school's lost property boxes. Students are encouraged to check the lost property box found in the following locations:
K-2 Site: located on the 2B classroom old verandah
3-6 Site: located in the Year 5 classrooms corridor
If your child has misplaced an item other than clothing (eg, glasses), please speak to the office administration staff.
Non-clothing items found in the playground may have been handed to the office.

Hi All
Today, Tuesday 1 March, is the P&C General Meeting and AGM meeting. This is a great opportunity to come and learn a bit more about the P&C and be part of the Annual General Meeting. This year the AGM will be held via Zoom - an SZapp will be sent today confirming the details and they are included below. For those who are new to the school this is an annual process where the office bearers are elected for P&C executive but also to confirm or add members to the P&C sub committees.
In 2022 the P&C focus is on School Community, bringing together families after 2 years of minimal social activity. We have received a lot of interest from parent volunteers via the class details survey and members of the P&C committees will be in touch in the next few weeks to discuss next steps.
As the canteen renovation continues for a few more weeks, Heather and Catherine are providing a limited menu for a few days a week. I know the return of lunch orders was quite popular with my kids last week.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, our Uniform Shop Manager left the role earlier this week. We are working to fill this role in the next week and will confirm shortly. In the interim there may be a delay to the fulfillment of Flexischool orders.

RETURN & EARN
How you can make a positive contribution to the school and the environment!
Why do we have an orange Otto bin at each school site?
These bins are to collect empty drink containers for the Return and Earn program. The containers are put into bags by the Green Team members and are picked up and recycled by Red Frog. Each container earns 10 cents for P&C.
How can I make a positive contribution to the school and the environment?
Any container with 10c on the label can be placed in the orange bins. Please make sure the containers are empty, uncrushed and with straws removed.
Return and Earn items can be easily put in the orange bin by community members when entering the school grounds. It is a great way to teach our children how to recycle and contribute to the community!
Please feel free to join us in this initiative!
Thanks to the students, staff and community members who, over the last 3 years, have put their containers into the orange bins for recycling instead of into general rubbish. This has reduced the amount going into landfill and earned money for the school.
Hello Autumn!!!
Winter PSSA starts this week. If your child is in stage 3 and does PSSA sport, please remember to click on the Alert when placing their order on a Friday.
The new canteen is looking fabulous, but it will still be a few weeks at least until we can move in and start operating.
In the meantime, we are offering a limited lunch menu on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sushi is available on both days, as well as some toasties and sandwiches etc, snack packs, fruit juice and water.
We will be bringing back Butter Chicken, Nuggets, Chill J’s and all the other favourites as soon as we can.
We are using the small kitchen in the hall which has very limited storage space and just one fridge.
As always, ordering is through Flexischools. Please call 1300 361 769 if you are having any difficulties with ordering.
Orders close at 9am.
There will be no over the counter sales until further notice.
If you have any questoins, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.

PHPS Band Committee
Here’s a great opportunity for you! We realise that purchasing an instrument, finding a teacher AND spare time in the week to drive to lessons (before you even know if our child will like it!?) can be a BIG obstacle to trying something new. So the PHPS ensemble designed the Intro to Strings course to make it easier for you. You can hire a violin from us and attend weekly group lessons, conveniently held before school on Mondays.
Run only once a year we’ve got a few places left for our Intro course in Term 2. Register before Thursday 31 March
For more information about the program please visit:

Main Ensemble
Rehearsals: K-2 Hall, Tuesdays 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Big thanks to Carol and Christine who battled some seriously inclement weather last week to deliver our sodden students safely to Strings. As you would have noticed there was a last minute change of venue due to BASC needing to use the hall. Mr Pinchbeck apolgised for the confusion and assured us that it was an anomaly caused by the problematic weather and that our regular rehearsal space is still the school hall.
Parent Helpers Needed!!
At this point we have no parent helper next week Tuesday 8 March :(
The String Ensemble can't run without help from the parents so please click on the link below and sign up to be a parent helper this term. Big thanks to those who have already signed up :)
