Trebor Road Drop Off
Safety at Pennant Hills Public School is paramount for our students, parents and staff. During the first few weeks of the year we have noticed many parents choosing to stop in the “No Stopping” area of the cul-de-saq on Trebor Road. This is not a safe place to be stop to let your child out to enter school. There is “No Parking’ signage on Trebor Road to allow parents to park for few minutes and remain with their car, as well as timed parking on most side streets. Please ensure you utilise these areas for drop off as they have been deemed by Hornsby Council as a safe area to do so.
We would like to remind parents that the school’s carparks are not available for parental use between the hours of 8am and 4pm. This is to ensure the safety of our students. I ask everyone to follow this request to ensure we all play our part to keep the children safe at all times.
Term Invoices
You will receive your term invoice for most of your child’s school-related educational requirements, events and activities associated with your child’s learning experience at school in the next few weeks. Our core business is teaching and learning in classrooms - and we do that well! The additional user-pay co-curricular offerings, including excursions and engaging experts such as gymnastics teachers, allow your children to have other rich experiences which will help them to learn and grow beyond what happens in the classroom. We appreciate that the additional expenditure can make things tough for some families and we thank you for making the effort to pay your invoices as quickly as possible. If you experience financial hardship, or you would like to explore payment plans, please feel free to contact me, for a confidential discussion.
Sporting Trials
During the year we have many sporting trials for school sporting teams. These may be PSSA (Primary Schools Sports Association) teams, knockout teams, gala day teams or representative teams. For each sport, a staff member is responsible for the selection of students into these teams. Information regarding these sports and trials will be communicated to students at school, so they can put their name down and attend trials if needed.
PSSA teams are for Stage 2 and Stage 3 students. The PSSA competition is split into Summer and Winter competitions where students represent their school against other schools in the Beecroft PSSA. The Summer competition runs for approximately 15 weeks through Term 1, the end of Term 3 and the start of Term 4. In Summer the students can compete in the following sports:-
Stage 2 - teeball and league tag (boys and girls teams for each sport)
Stage 3 - softball and league tag (boys and girls teams for each sport)
The Winter competition also runs for approximately 15 weeks through Term 2 and the start of Term 3. In Winter the students can compete in the following sports:-
Stage 2 - soccer and netball (boys and girls teams for each sport)
Stage 3 - soccer and netball (boys and girls teams for each sport)
As in all cases in life, not everyone can be successful in being selected into a team. Sometimes we may feel disappointed about not being selected; however, the most important thing is that you continue to stay positive and develop your skills and love of your chosen sport.
Good luck to all of our students and teams this year.
SZapp
Thank you for patience as we rectified the technical issues that we were experiencing last week. These have all been fixed now. I ask all parents to select their child’s class and year group and any other group that they may be associated with to ensure you receive timely information.
To manage your app you need to do the following;
- Open the app
- Select ‘Manage’ in the banner
- Check the box relating to your child’s class, year group and activity

Our library subscribes to the Wheelers ePlatform which allows students to borrow eBooks.
Using a device via the ePlatform app or through a web browser, students have access to a digital library which has a collection of over 1800 books. eBooks can be easily borrowed and are returned automatically. They can be read on a computer, laptop or mobile device.
This video explains how simple it is to download the ePlatform app. Alternatively, our school’s eLibrary can be accessed via this link http://pennanthil.eplatform.co/ or the Oliver school library website which is accessed via the DoE student portal.
The students use their school username and password to sign in to our school’s ePlatform. They can borrow up to two books at a time for a two week period. Please note that these borrowing rules are set by Wheelers not the school.
Hornsby Shire Library
It would be fabulous if all students could join the Hornsby Shire Library. You can join online and then have access to a wide range of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. The library website clearly outlines the apps you need to install on your mobile device to access these items. There are also many other resources you can access, such as Encyclopedia Britannica, and the library regularly holds a variety of fun activities and workshops for children.

SCHOOL STUDENT TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
School Travel Passes
Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass but have not yet applied need to apply or update their details as soon as possible.
In the Opal network, students should travel with a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card. If outside Greater Sydney, parents should contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
New Student Opal cards (including new Term Bus Passes) will be sent to the student's nominated transport operator. It may be issued via their school or be sent to them at home. Note: some R&R operations do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
Terms of Use
Students using Opal cards must tap on and off in line with the Opal terms of use.
All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct. The code of conduct aims to ensure the safety and wellbeing of school children and other passengers. It is important that parents ensure their child is aware of this, as failure to comply with the code of conduct can result in a suspension of travel.

PENNANT HILLS HIGH SCHOOL POTENTIAL AND GIFTED (HIPAG) TEST
President’s Message
Hi All
I hope everyone had a good 2nd week back at school and all families are getting back into the rhythm of Term 1.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter the next P&C meeting will be on Tuesday 1 March, this is a great opportunity to come and learn a bit more about the P&C and be part of the Annual General Meeting. There’s no pressure to join a sub-committee group, but it’s a great way to get to know the school and meet other parents. Your kids would love to see you involved too!
In 2022 the P&C focus is on School Community, bringing together families after 2 years of minimal social activity. We will also continue to support PHPS by funding additional resources to enhance the educational experience for our children. At this stage it is unlikely we will be able to run the annual PHPS Fete in May but we are exploring other fun opportunities for the kids, and broader community, to get together and raise money to support the school.
As notified in the Canteen section, the canteen remains closed for renovations. We are working closely with the school on a return date. I know that Heather and Catherine can’t wait to get the lunch orders up and running again.
The Uniform Shop is also impacted by the Canteen renovations and we are working with Alison and the school on options for appointments and deliveries whilst this disruption continues.
It was great to see the Bands up and running again on site. Mike S and the Band team have done a great job to make it through the 6 months of Zoom rehearsals and maintain high levels of participation.
Have a great week.
Luke Whenman
P&C President
Communications Team Update
Early each year the P&C supports the school, teachers and parents by setting up and distributing the class lists to provide a reliable form of communication, including reminders or class specific information from your teacher.
We ask all parents to complete this short questionnaire to be included in your class list and keep up to date with messages and reminders through the year.
Please complete this short survey to add your child to the class list. Complete one survey per child in your family who is attending PHPS this year.
The survey will close Friday night, 18 February. Late submissions may not be included in the class list due to the tight time frame.
If you have any questions please email the P&C Communications team on phppandc@gmail.com
Many thanks

Uniform Shop Committee
We are currently seeking new members for the Uniform Shop Committee. The committee meets just once a term to discuss and monitor the supply, quality and price of the school uniform. The committee members also provide assistance to new families at the Kinderlinks program. If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact me on the below email address.
