Music Camp
Music Camp begins this Sunday and all involved are eagerly counting down the days. Music Camp provides all students in Band, Strings and Choir the opportunity to develop their skills through specialised tutoring. A huge thank you to all the staff and parents involved in this event. There are many people working behind the scenes to ensure all the students have a wonderful time. During the camp many staff and parents will also be involved providing supervision both day and night.
As the Music Camp is over Monday and Tuesday those students who are not involved will not be disappointed. They will have the opportunity to participate in a range of learning opportunities that teachers have specifically designed for this time. There will be STEM activities, art lessons and the like for the students to participate in. Your child will be placed in a group with students from their grade and/or stage depending on numbers. This is a necessity as staff will be attending the camp. Last year the activities at school were a huge success.
Solar Panels
Last week I requested that solar panels be installed on both school sites. The ability to do so has been due to the incredible work of the P&C. The parent run body have generously committed to the financial commitment to seeing this project come to fruition. The benefits for the school and community are extremely substantial and we wholeheartedly thank them for their commitment and support of this project. A special mention to the Green Team which is a sub-committee of the P&C for driving this initiative. Well done and thank you!
Statement of Account – Semester One
Thank you to all the families who have already settled their Statement of Account. It is very much appreciated as it allows the school to continue to deliver the exceptional extra-curricular programs that support each and every child. If you have not yet received your Statement of Account, please check your child’s school bag, and then contact the office on 9484 1134 if that is not successful. If you are experiencing financial difficulty at this time, please contact the office to arrange a meeting with myself for a private and confidential conversation.
After School Pick Up
From 3:15pm BASC have a Licence to utilise the K-2 site to provide care and supervision for the families that require their service. I ask parents that are picking up their children in the afternoon from the K-2 site ensure they are supervising their children at all times. Students under parental care, at this time, are not to be playing on the equipment, oval or in and around the students attending BASC. As you can imagine it becomes very challenging for the BASC staff to ensure they are providing supervision to the appropriate students. I thank you for your support and cooperation with this matter.
Rapid Antigen Tests
As mentioned last week the school has been expecting a further delivery of RATs. These have arrived and will be disseminated to students on Thursday. Please ensure you check your child’s bag when they come home for their next bundle. These are for the remainder of Term 2 and are to be used for symptomatic testing.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Special Achievement
Congratulations to Tamati S in 6M who competed in the Australian Little League (baseball) Championship over 3 days. He usually plays centrefield, third base and pitcher and his team came third! What a wonderful result! Well done Tamati!
Around the School
3D were deeply involved in their spelling activities this morning. Some students were breaking up their spelling words based on their contained phonemes and phonological awareness is the key to reading, writing and spelling! Well done.
6R have been looking at creating persuasive arguments and I had a great conversation with Anaiah, Samara and Tahlia about the pros and cons of the concept ‘Students should be paid to go to school’. They were adamant that this would lead to the extrinsic motivation of students coming to school just to earn money rather than valuing learning and their education. Rockstars, well done!
5G were taking up different roles in their literacy groups this morning, I heard some great ‘reporters’ detailing the discussions that were had within their group after analysing a text. Great work!
Kind Regards

President’s Message
Hi All
Thanks to everyone who joined the June P&C General Meeting via Teams last week. Bec S, on behalf of the Events committee, presented an overview of the planned P&C community engagement and fundraising activities which was well received. We’re looking forward to hosting a BBQ early in Term 3 to kick things off and there’s a steady stream of events through the rest of 2022.
This week is the Music Camp and as always there is a huge amount of preparation that has gone into this event, led by Jules W and Jen W in partnership with the PHPS teachers. A big thanks in advance to all the volunteers who are onsite during the camp, it’s an amazing experience for the kids to have.
Just a reminder the next P&C General Meeting is in August as July falls during the school holidays.
Have a great week.
If you would like to subscribe to our P&C meeting emails (minutes and agendas), please subscribe at the following link: http://eepurl.com/dlK3PD

Message from PHPS Green Team
Thank you to all the students, staff and community members who continue to put their empty, uncrushed containers into the orange Return and Earn bins at each school site. The containers are regularly collected by RedFrog and 10c is paid to P&C for each can, bottle or carton. Eligible containers have a 10c logo on the label. This is such a great way to reduce the amount going to landfill and is a small but steady fundraiser for our P&C sustainability projects.
After a long break in school events due to Covid, the Green Team is looking forward to working with staff and parents on making school social and fundraising occasions even ‘’greener’’!!
Parents or carers who would like to be part of making our school more sustainable, please contact phpsgreenteam@gmail.com
As you can imagine, it has become increasingly difficult and now almost impossible to source lettuce for the canteen!! As a result I have removed it as an item on our Build Your Own Lunch menu.
If I can manage to find any (that doesn’t cost the earth) it will be used in our wraps etc that normally contain lettuce. If none can be found we will endeavor to use more of the other ingredients wherever possible.
Don’t worry. We will not replace lettuce with cabbage!! Hopefully the situation will not take too long to improve.
PSSA Reminder
If you have a child who participates in Stage 3 PSSA Netball or Soccer, and you are placing a lunch order for them on a Friday, please remember to open up ”PSSA Alert” and click on Stage 3 PSSA. This is a huge help to us as we sort through the 200 plus orders, as they need to be ready to be picked up at 12:30pm.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.

- If it's raining the flutes, clarinets, & trumpet players can put their cases under their chairs inside and pack away in there.
- Unfortunately the larger instruments are a little harder, ideally if it's only a little wet they will need to pack away outside on the ramped area.
- If it's bucketing down, then having them packed away inside may be necessary.
- Once complete these are to be submitted through the Worksheet Submission Web Form
- If you need a particular worksheet you can print them from the Band web pages here.
- Crowding the door: please don't let the students crowd the door with bags and instrument cases. School bags should be put on the silver shelves, and instrument cases can be lined up on the ramp.
- Behaviour: If children are misbehaving please help the conductors. Just because they're not playing, doesn't mean they should be talking. If they have a question, classroom rules apply, they raise their hand and wait to be asked. There is a red "Student Behavior'' book which can be used to write children's names in, if a name is in there repeatedly then we will get in touch with their parents.
- Training Band: When walking the students back to the 3-6 site try to have them line up in pairs on the path to the side. Count them twice, check the head count to the marked roll. Tell the students to walk nicely and stick together on the walk up. If possible, have a parent front and rear and discourage wandering. Once all accounted for you are free and thank you for helping.
- Packing up the room: The students are primarily responsible for packing up the music room after band rehearsal. Percussionists should be getting the percussion equipment back toward the wall and covered up, and the rest of the band packing up chairs and stands. It is not to be left to the conductor, or the parent helpers. All students should be involved, and students should not leave until the room is in an acceptable condition.
