Zone Cross Country
Last Thursday, 40 of our students represented our school at the Beecroft Zone PSSA Cross Country at Fagan Park. Beecroft Zone is one of the largest Zones in NSW with 21 schools members of the Zone. In some age groups there were 105 competitors, which means progressing to the Sydney North PSSA Cross Country carnival is very difficult. All students should be very proud of their efforts. The following students placed inside the Top 10 for their age group;
- Zanna P - 9th 10 Year Girls
- Angus M - 7th 10 Year Boys
- Tom S - 8th 11 Year Boys
- Lucas M - 8th 12 Year Boys
The following student placed inside the Top 5 for their age group which means she will represent our school and Beecroft Zone PSSA at the upcoming Sydney North PSSA Cross Country;
- Kate H - 5th 12 Year Girls
We wish Kate the very best of luck at this carnival.
Thank you to all the parents who attended on the day to support the students. From all accounts it was a great day. Thank you, Mr Bryant and Miss Steele, for their work on the day supervising the students and assisting in running a successful carnival.
Kindergarten (2023) Open Day
Today we welcomed approximately 50 families to the Pennant Hills Public School community who will have children starting Kindergarten with us next year. The parents who were able to attend were treated to performances by; Ramsay Choir, Senior Band, Jazz Band, Year 2 Dance Group and KC and KA performing a song they have been learning. It was wonderful to see students performing again after a difficult few years due to Covid. Parents also had the opportunity to hear from Mr Luke Whenman (P&C President) and Mrs Erin Jeacle (BASC Director) and we thank them for giving their time to talk to these families. Later this year we will hold a Parent Information Session and our traditional Kindilinks program for families starting school next year.
If you know of any families that have children due to start at our school next year and live in our catchment area please encourage them to enrol online as soon as possible. This ensures that they are a part of the transition process and enables the school to plan accordingly. All enrolments are online now. Please click here for the link. All in-area enrolments will be accepted.
On this page you will also find information relating to Out-of-area enrolments. Out-of-area enrolments are also able to apply online, however, these applications will be assessed by a panel formed by the school. This is the current Policy of the NSW Department of Education. Due to the size of our school, we are only able to accept Out-of-area applications that are considered exceptional or extenuating circumstances. Please ensure you mention your reasons during the online enrolment process.
Dance Spectacular – NEW DATE
A few weeks ago we published the date of this year’s Dance Spectacular. Sadly, between then and now we had our date cancelled. Fortunately, thanks to the work of Mrs McLaren, we have been able to secure a new date a fortnight later. The new date is Friday 28th October 2022. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused; however, the issue was out of our hands. The event is still taking place at Hillsong at Norwest and further information will follow to keep everyone updated. This event will be the highlight of the year for students, teachers, parents, extended family, and friends alike.
Vale Miss Inez Jones
Last week we were informed of the untimely passing of a former temporary teacher, Miss Inez Jones. Miss Jones worked at our wonderful school in 2016 and some families still at the school would certainly remember her when she was teaching her Kindergarten 'Joeys' class. Miss Jones had battled cancer bravely for the past few years and succumbed to this horrible disease last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with her partner, Jack, and her family during this difficult time. A wonderful teacher gone far too young.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Kindergarten Open Day
What a fabulous morning to welcome our 2023 Kindergarten families to our school for the Kindergarten Open Day, an amazing turn out! Thank you to our Senior band and Jazz Band for playing during the morning, it was a wonderful welcome and all of K-2 enjoyed listening to your pieces. We also had performances by the Ramsay Choir, the Year 2 Dance Group and a musical performance by KC and KA Well done everyone! Thank you to Mrs Coventry for organising the morning, the Year 1 parents for providing morning tea, Luke Whenman our P&C president and Erin Jeacle from BASC for your time this morning. Thank you to Ms Stevens for the choir and music performances and Arnold for the dance performances. Our school leaders did a wonderful job at outlining some of the attributes of our school as they took families on a tour.
Thank you for attending our Open Day, please ensure you have downloaded and signed up to our Schoolzine App (SZapp), to ensure that you are kept up to date with all upcoming events. We have a Kindilinks (orientation) program in Term 3 and a Parent Information Evening to look forward to.
Tell Then From Me (TTFM) Survey
This term, students in Years 4-6 at our school are taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. This survey will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the non-consent form that was sent home as a hard copy on Monday and also via the SZapp.
Zone Cross Country 2022
On Thursday 26 May, 40 students from year 2-6 represented our school at the Zone Cross Country Carnival at Fagan Park. Despite having a very muddy track, we were lucky to have a full day of sunshine. Our students represented our school with pride, displaying strengths of determination, grit and humility whilst racing and cheering on their peers. Students should be proud of their placings, with a few managing to place within the top 10 and Kate Hall placing 5th, meaning she will go on to represent our school at Area. Congratulations to all our students on your fine efforts!
Kind Regards
Kate Wasson

WOW!
Every Thursday lunchtime, 2 of our PHPS Guinea Pig family, go down to visit and meet the students of K-2. How lucky are the PHPS Guinea Pigs??!
For this weekly visit each Thursday, a student from every K-2 class is nominated by their classroom teacher. The teachers are looking for students who have positively demonstrated some of our school values of: responsibility, respectfulness, being a learner, being kind or being fair.
These 11 students then get to have some individual time with the Guinea Pigs, ably assisted by my fabulous 3-6 Guinea Pig monitors, who come to help show and share the pigs with the K-2 students.
We had such fun! We read a story ‘Super Guinea Pig saves the world’. We fed Opi and Kartoffel some parsley and we gave the pigs some lovely pats and cuddles. Have a look what we got up to!
It’s getting very close at less than a week away!!

President’s Message
Hi All
A belated thank you to Aiden and Chris who presented the Solar Panel plan on behalf of the Green Team, at the May P&C General Meeting. The P&C endorsed the recommendation to access the Government solar assistance program, with a 50% contribution from the P&C. We are now working with PHPS and Mr Pinchbeck on the next steps and the P&C Fundraising activities over the next 6 months will support this initiative.
Next Tuesday, 7 June at 7.30pm, is the June P&C General Meeting, this will be held virtually via Teams. Dial in details will be issued prior to the meeting. Our P&C Events team has been working hard in the background on shaping up activities for late Term 2 and Term 3, we hope to share some of these details at the June meeting.

- Crowding the door: please don't let the students crowd the door with bags and instrument cases. School bags should be put on the silver shelves, and instrument cases can be lined up on the ramp.
- Behavior: If children are misbehaving please help the conductors, call out bad behavior when you see it, and keep the children from talking when they shouldn't be. Just because they're not playing, doesn't mean they should be talking. If they have a question, classroom rules apply, they raise their hand and wait to be asked. There is a red "Student Behavior'' book which can be used to write children's names in, if a name is in there repeatedly then we will get in touch with their parents.
- Training Band: When walking the students back to the 3-6 site try to have them line up in pairs on the path to the side. Count them twice, check with Lachie the head count. Tell the students to walk nicely and stick together on the walk up. You should stop at the driveway, Weemala corner, school crossing at the 1st driveway at the big site to be recounted. If possible, have a parent front and end and discourage wandering. Once all accounted for you are free and thank you for helping.
- Packing up the room: The students are primarily responsible for packing up the music room after band rehearsal. Percussionists should be getting the percussion equipment back toward the wall and covered up, and the rest of the band packing up chairs and stands. There is masking tape on the floor showing where things need to be behind. For the chairs, there should be 4 stacks placed inside the masking tape area. The area between the chair stack and music stands must remain clear so the shelves can be accessed for school music lessons. There should be a small clear area between the timpanis and the drum kit for access to the windows.
It is not to be left to the conductor, or the parent helpers. All students should be involved, and students should not leave until the room is in an acceptable condition.
