Covid Update
Please be aware that COVID is still in our community. Although we are living with COVID now and managing many of our events and activities with COVID in mind, we still need to be conscious of COVID and to follow any health advice related to COVID. If your child has COVID they must isolate for the prescribed period of time. Please indicate this through the SZapp when submitting your child’s absence and log the positive case with NSW Health through Service NSW. If your child is a close contact, they will need to be symptom free, have a negative RAT each day and be encouraged to wear a mask during the isolation period for them to attend school. With camps and excursions resuming, it is important to note that unfortunately refunds will not be available after our official numbers have been submitted to the travel company, which in some cases is several weeks prior to the activity. If your child misses the camp or excursion due to COVID or for any other reason they are unable to attend, a refund unfortunately cannot be provided. We are, however, excited that many of our excursions and events are once again possible this year.
Uniform Standards
Now that we have transitioned to full winter uniform, I would like to thank all parents for ensuring your children wear their complete uniform each day (including polished black shoes). We are fortunate at Pennant Hills Public School to have a wonderful Uniform Shop Manager, Janine Sherlock. If you have any questions, please contact her at phpsuniformshop@gmail.com.
School Sport
At Pennant Hills Public School there are many opportunities to participate in sport. Classes and grades participate in fitness sessions, PE skill lessons and other sporting sessions throughout the year. In some circumstances your child may try out for various sporting teams that participate in Interschool Sport (formerly known as PSSA). These are all separate sporting events and often require a selection process.
For Interschool Sport there may be both Stage 2 and Stage 3 teams involved. Apart from team sports, students can also participate in the school swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. For each of these carnivals, students (depending on their results) may progress to zone, area, state or even national levels.
Late Arrivals
Students who arrive late to school must be accompanied to the front office of either site with a parent. It is our legal requirement to record when a student is late to school and the reason for a student arriving late. This information needs to be provided by a parent and should not come from the student.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Kindergarten 2023 Open Day
We warmly welcome our 2023 Kindergarten families to our Kindergarten Open Day on Tuesday 31 May at 9:30am in the school hall.
Around the school
Monday mornings on the K-2 site are a hive of learning. Most students are engaged in literacy sessions where the teacher is reading with a small group and others are completing activities at their independent level, whether that be a phonics game, independent reading, a writing task, grammar or a speaking and listening activity.
6M have been using repetitive lines and shapes to create intricate patterns representing everyday objects. The effects of this time-consuming process are stunning! 6M often use this activity as an opportunity to practise our mindfulness. Check out a few examples below.
Kind Regards

Pennant Hills Public School will be participating in Walk Safely to School Day on 20 May 2022. We would love to see everyone aiming to walk to school that day as walking is a great way to be healthy and promote exercise. If students are driven to school usually, dropping them 5 to 10 minutes early further away from school so that they can walk the rest of the way is a great idea! We will have apples and a sticker to give to student's who walk to school that day, and a 'Wonder walker' chart for each class to complete with the names of every student who walks to school safely. We hope to have as many people as possible participating in this great day!!

Classroom Teachers
PHPS has entered the Premier’s Spelling Bee Competition for 2022.
The Premier’s Spelling Bee is a fun and educational way for NSW public primary school students to engage in spelling. The program includes activities to encourage all students to improve their vocabulary and spelling and to promote literacy skills in combination with the English K-6 Syllabus.
The Premier's Spelling Bee finals will be held in the school hall in Week 7, Monday 6 June. Stage 2 and 3 classes will put forward their class finalists after the top 2 spellers are selected by their class teacher. A Junior Spelling Bee Student Finalist from Stage 1 or 2 and a Senior Spelling Bee Finalist from Stage 3 will then take part and compete in regional finals. Regional winners then compete in the state final. Covid rules pending, Parents and Carers are welcome to attend to watch.
If any students would like to better prepare and practice their spelling, they are welcome to access the 2022 junior and senior word lists via this link: https://artsunit.nsw.edu.au/program/nsw-premiers-spelling-bee
Remember to get the password from your class teacher.

Koala bracelets for sale! On Friday, Adelina from 5G will be selling little homemade koala bracelets to raise money for the Koala Park Sanctuary.
They are 50c each! If you have some spare change laying around and would like to donate, she will be set up outside at lunch time on Friday.
Mrs Gartrell
Classroom Teacher
The canteen is open at lunchtime on the 3-6 site, on Tuesdays and Fridays, for over the counter sales.
We have had a few parents offering to help out, which is wonderful! Thank you. It would be great if we could have a few more parents/carers who are able to help for an hour or so once a month.
Please contact me if you are free between 1 and 2pm, and would like to help serve, or, if you would like to hand out the ice blocks during lunch at K-2 on Fridays. It’s very exciting for the children to have Mum or Dad at school and helping out in some way.
MENU
We now make VEGAN Fried Rice as well as Fried Rice (contains ham) and Vegetarian Fried Rice (contains egg). They are all GLUTEN FREE and available every day.
Please feel free to contact me if you are ever wanting to know about ingredients in any of the food we offer, or if you would like to discuss possible options for particular dietary needs.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
