Mother’s Day Breakfast
What a spectacular morning we had at school last Friday. It was great to see so many people attend our annual Mother’s Day breakfast. We truly hope you had a special morning and it was a great warm up for your weekend. We hope that every mum, grandmother, carer, role model had a wonderful day on Sunday and received the recognition they so richly deserve.
Thank you to the staff at school who assisted with the planning, shopping, set up and cooking. Many of the staff were on site before 6am to ensure a successful day, and it certainly was that and so much more.
NAPLAN
Today marks the start of the annual NAPLAN assessments for students in Years 3 and 5. These assessments are conducted across the nation. We encourage each student to do their very best, but these assessments are the not the ‘be all’ of a child’s education. The results of these assessments, which will arrive later in the year, should be used to form part of the whole picture when it comes to your child’s academic achievement. I encourage any parent who has concerns or questions about their child’s level of achievement to speak with their child’s teacher to gain the full picture.
During this assessment period all construction activities have been put on hold to ensure the most optimal environment possible for the students. We ask all families to ensure that their child gets a good night’s sleep prior to the assessments and has a healthy breakfast to start each day.
Opportunity Class (OC) Applications – Year 5 2023
Opportunity classes cater for intellectually gifted and high potential students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. Students successfully placed will usually have to leave their current school to enrol in a school with an opportunity class for Years 5 and 6.
Testing and assessment
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered on the results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test alone. Students who wish to be considered for opportunity class placement will sit the Opportunity Class Placement Test on Thursday 28 July 2022.
How to apply
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2023, you need to apply between Tuesday 26 April 2022 and Friday 13 May 2022. You will need to access the online application at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
You must not use the child’s email address. Late applications are not usually accepted.
If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team for assistance after Tuesday 26 April 2022 at ssu@det.nsw.edu.au or on 1300 880 367.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Rapid Antigen Tests
Each child will be given a pack of five Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) today as mentioned by the Government and the school at the beginning of this term. These tests are to be used when symptoms are displayed. They are also to be used if a student is deemed a close or household contact. This will enable them to attend school during this period if they do not have any symptoms and produce a negative RAT daily.
Dance Spectacular
The anticipated Dance Spectacular is on this year. Please save the date as the concert is on Friday 14 October. Students will have rehearsals leading up to this date, but in particular the first week of Term 4 should be noted where some of the rehearsals will be at the venue to ensure all the students are familiar with the facility. Much work has already taken place in the background and all staff are very excited that this event is back on the school calendar. We look forward to seeing everyone there on the night.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Mothers Day Breakfast
What a wonderful morning celebrating all of the mother figures in our school community. It was great to see so many families sharing a breakfast together. Thank you to Ms Dwyer, Mrs McLoghry and Miss Billington for your organisation, Mr Pinchbeck and Mr Bryant for their BBQ skills and to the very many teachers who came to school before the sun was up to assist in setting up; Ms Parras, Mrs McLaren, Mrs Ford, Mrs Griffith, Mrs Van der Wal, Mrs Reid, Mrs Macnaughtan, Miss Pinnuck, Mrs Gartrell and Ms Hansell.
Shrek
All students from years 1-6 were lucky enough to attend the Pennant Hills High School performance of Shrek the Musical yesterday. It was a very engaging experience and such a delight to see current and ex-PHPS students performing on a big stage. The feedback I’ve had from the mix of students I have spoken to was that it was a great performance with some talented singers.

Pennant Hills Public School will be participating in Walk Safely to School Day on 20 May 2022. We would love to see everyone aiming to walk to school that day as walking is a great way to be healthy and promote exercise. If students are driven to school usually, dropping them 5 to 10 minutes early further away from school so that they can walk the rest of the way is a great idea! We will have apples and a sticker to give to student's who walk to school that day, and a 'Wonder walker' chart for each class to complete with the names of every student who walks to school safely. We hope to have as many people as possible participating in this great day!!

Classroom Teachers
The canteen will now be open at lunchtime on the 3-6 site, on Tuesdays and Fridays, for over the counter sales.
Please contact me if you are free between 1 and 2pm, and would like to help serve, or, if you would like to hand out the ice blocks during lunch at K-2 on Fridays. It’s very exciting for the children to have Mum or Dad at school and helping out in some way.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
