Selective High Schools 2023
Congratulations to the five Year 6 students who have been offered a placement at a selective high school for 2023. The process is quite arduous and these students have, in essence, competed against approximately 15 000 students for 3 000 positions. We also have two students placed on the reserves list for a placement. Well done to all and good luck to all our Year 6’s as they enter high school next year.
Family Law Guidelines
The department recognises that family breakdowns take place. Unless there is formal notice otherwise, it is assumed that both parents have shared and equal parental responsibility for their children and both parents have been involved in decisions regarding their children’s education. The also means the school recognises that each parent has equal duties, obligation, responsibilities and opportunities relating to matters involving the school.
If changes occur in your family relationship which might impact on the relationship between the school and your family, you should advise the school immediately. This includes providing copies of any relevant court orders.
Social Media
Social Media is the way of the world now for so many people, probably even more so now due to Covid-19. It can be quite a positive experience for most people when being used productively and for its intended purpose. Unfortunately, over the last few weeks the school has been informed on several occasions of students using social media platforms outside of school hours and targeting specific students with disgusting comments. I think we would all agree that this behaviour is not acceptable, and the school does become involved when it impacts students at the school. I would encourage all parents and carers to talk with, and monitor, their child’s use of social media. It is vitally important that all students are treated respectfully in all areas of our lives, regardless of differences.
I have included a link below to the eSafety Commissioner website to assist parents to support their children in the appropriate use of social media and digital technologies.

Parliament House Tour
Our local State Member, Mr Matt Kean MP, Treasurer, Minister for Energy and Member for Hornsby has invited the School Captains, Vice Captains, their parents and I to a morning tea at Parliament House in the last week of term. Having attended this event previously it is a great opportunity for our school leaders to meet and talk with their peer leaders and other leaders from NSW. In previous years the students have spoken with Gladys Berejiklian who was Premier at the time, Paige Hadley (Netball), Api Koroisau (NRL) and many other sporting identities to hear about their leadership journeys. I am sure this year’s visit will be just as exciting for our students.
Pizza Lunch
This term’s Pizza Lunch will be held on Monday 19 September. Those students who have handed in their three Principal Awards can expect to receive their note this week for the lunch. Please ensure you return the note by the due date. Anyone who hands in their three Principal Awards from today will attend the Term 4 Pizza Lunch.
Regional Spelling Bee Final
Last Thursday Hayden (Stage 2) and Chrissy (Stage 3) represented the school at the Regional Spelling Bee final. Here they were competing against schools from across Metropolitan Sydney. The event was held virtually this year due to Covid-19.
- Chrissy came 13th in the final and the word that she slipped up on would have stumped most adults. To be honest I had never heard the word used in a sentence. Great work Chrissy.
- A huge congratulations to Hayden who came 3rd in the final. A magnificent achievement. Thank you to Ms Schmidt for all her organisation running this competition at school for the students.
Kind Regards

This competition is an excellent opportunity for these students to experience the fun and excitement of participating in competitive sport and Ten Pin Bowling is an excellent sport for students with disability. By adapting the game to utilise lane bumpers and ramps as necessary, it ensures the game is inclusive of all.
What an AMAZING time they had!!
Each student enjoyed 2 games of bowling & we find out if we progress through to the next round shortly!

SUPER HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Hayden Y of 3H.
Hayden competed in the Junior Premier’s Spelling Bee Final, against 28 other schools ranging from Bulli PS to Macquarie Fields PS to our neighbour, Cherrybrook PS.
Hayden progressed so amazingly well against some truly tough competition, that he finished in 3rd place! What an AMAZING result!
Please join me in congratulating Hayden on his wonderful achievement.
SUPER HUGE CONGRATULATIONS also go to Chrissie C of 6S.
Chrissie competed in the Senior Premier’s Spelling Bee Final, against 28 other schools ranging from Chester Hill PS to Casula PS to our near neighbour, Castle Hill PS.
Chrissie demonstrated enormous spelling prowess, as she was faced with words such as spherical & indefatigable & reminiscent. Up against some skilled competition, Chrissie finished in 13th place! An OUTSTANDING result!
Please join me in congratulating Chrissie on her stellar achievement.

We are excited to show you our new K-2 Bin system which is now up and running. The K-2 students are learning to sort their waste using the new bin system. We have already collected over 8 kgs of soft plastics!
Well done students!
Last week, students in 6S had fun choosing activities for their literacy rotations. Students enjoyed creating word clouds, writing poems, improving their typing skills and reading interesting and current news articles.
Lucas M, Andrei S and Spyridon J used their impressive basketball skills and initiative to create a class games called ‘Basketspell’. They worked hard developing the rules of the game so it could be completed fairly and to ensure it supported success when practicing their spelling words. As you can see, the class enjoyed learning new basketball skills integrated with spelling sounds.

Library book donations
Once again, a huge thank you to all those families who visited the library last week, during the Showcase afternoons, and donated a book. Overall, 313 books were donated which is absolutely fantastic.
Bookplates, that acknowledge the students’ donations, are now being typed and pasted into books. Once this is completed the students will then be able to borrow their donated book.
Your support for the library is very much appreciated.
