Beecroft Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow is the Beecroft Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival. There are a lot of firsts associated with tomorrow’s carnival. It is the first time being held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre and the first time that all events are being held on one day. Please note the event is NOT being held at Greenway Park. The times on the program are only indicative and I strongly encourage parents who are thinking of attending to arrive well before any advertised time. This is to avoid any disappointment.
A link to the program and information for parents is below.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qMKq6s97sYkpyxnE1KOyMkan16_X5SBa/edit
It is important to note that the event is run by teachers and provides students with any opportunity to progress further depending on their results. If you have any questions throughout the day, it is important that you speak with our school’s Team Manager, Mrs Milligan. Please do not approach other teachers who are involved in running the day as they will not be able to address any issue.
Thank you to Mr Bryant and Mrs Milligan for supervising the students tomorrow and we wish our team the very best of luck in their event.
All students are to arrive at school by 7am as the bus will be leaving at 7:15am sharp. Any student who arrives at school after this time will need to make their own way to the carnival if they wish to compete. We do not have time to wait for any student that does not arrive before this time.
Festival of Instrumental Music
This Wednesday night the school’s Strings Group will be performing at the Sydney Town Hall. This is the first of many concerts that take place in Term 3 that provide students a unique opportunity to showcase their talents. They also have the opportunity to perform at Sydney’s Town Hall which has played host to some amazing performers over many years. Thank you to the parents and Mrs Griffith for their commitment to this opportunity. The concert is held at the end of a very long day for all; however, it is a fabulous opportunity.
Also, in attendance on the night will be Tahlia and Charlotte, the Girls Captain and Vice-Captain. The two girls will be compering the night and were selected through an audition process. Both are very excited about the opportunity. We wish them the very best of luck and know they will do an amazing job.

Father’s Day
This Friday we will be celebrating and acknowledging the important role males play in raising today’s children. We are looking forward to seeing you on Friday morning to share time with you. Thank you must go to Mrs Gardener, Mrs McCloghry and their team for organising this breakfast. It is no mean feat catering for about 200 people in a short amount of time.
This Thursday students will have the opportunity to purchase something for Father’s Day from the P&C Father’s Day stall. Mrs Alison Pride and her team do an amazing job sourcing the gifts and arranging time for the students to browse and purchase. We thank them for giving up their time to support the students to show their ‘fathers’ how much they mean to them.
On behalf of the school community, I wish every father or significant male role model all the very best on Sunday. I hope that you realise the positive impact you have on your children, and they are able to truly show you their appreciation. Have a great day.
Starting Big School in 2023
If you know someone living in our catchment area that is due to start ‘big school’ next year, please encourage them to contact the school. The enrolment process has been streamlined and all families living in our catchment area can now apply online and complete most of the process this way. For all information relating to enrolment please click the following link, Enrolment - Pennant Hills Public School (nsw.gov.au)
In Term 4 we will hold our Kindilinks program to transition next year’s enrolments to school. The dates for this year are as follows, and all sessions are from 9:30-11am.
- Tuesday 25 October
- Tuesday 1 November
- Tuesday 8 November
- Tuesday 15 November
There will be a parent information session on Tuesday 18 October 2022 beginning at 7pm in the school hall. The hall is located on the K-2 site which is at the end of Trebor Road.
With these events, if you or your child is unwell please do not attend.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Please feel welcome to join us for our Walkathon on Monday 5 September. We hope to see you there!
Thank you to our amazing P&C who have donated the prizes! How lucky we are!
Around the School
The word of the week is SCIENCE! We had a Science Incursion for Stage 2, run by Fizzics, who are also conducting our Big Science, Big Fun! Family Science Show next Tuesday. 2B, 1E and 6S were also conducting Science experiments today and writing their hypothesis, testing their hypothesis and reporting on the results. What a wonderful day!
6M have been working on their poetry skills, analysing the rhythm of poetry and taking inspiration from the poem, One Inch Tall by Shel Silvenstein. Such a creative bunch!

Book Character Parade
Last Tuesday, our school was a hive of creativity as students let their imaginations run wild by coming dressed as a book character that had sparked their imagination. It was fabulous that so many parents and grandparents were able to attend this event, as due to COVID-19 restrictions, it has been three years since our last parade.
It was amazing seeing so many different book characters ranging from George - the caravan park cat to Willy Wonka. All students are to be congratulated for participating in this Book Week celebration. Such enthusiasm highlighted the joy that reading brings to our students.
A huge thank you to Mrs Mackay who assisted me with the organisation of the parade.
Library Book Donations
During Education Week, the library will be open on both Showcase afternoons - Monday and Wednesday. There will be a range of new books on display that can be donated to the library for just $5.00. All donated books will have a bookplate placed inside to acknowledge the student who has made the donation, and of course they then have the privilege of being the first person to borrow that book. This is a great way to give back to our wonderful school and the students really enjoy seeing their names inside the donated books.
I look forward to seeing you.

This week we interviewed Eco Warriors from Stage 1 classes.
Here are some of their responses.
What do you like about being an Eco Warrior?
Aston 2B - I like that it is helping the earth and when you are doing the tasks, we get fresh air. Picking up the rubbish stops all the birds too.
Olivia 1M - I like animals and nature and being an Eco Warrior helps these and also, I think about it as if I was an animal and it was my home. If rubbish were on my home I would get hurt, so that is why I like to help.
Oliver 1A - Using the correct bins, putting things in the right bins.
Eliana 1A - I like getting to do the compost.
Do you think being an Eco Warrior is important? Why?
Isla 2A - Yes, it is important because we help the environment and then it all stays clean, and we have a perfect life. Having a clean environment helps us because it keeps our playground safe.
Nelly 2B – Yes, since the environment is important. It is important because it is where we live.
Olivia 1M- Yes, because it is important for nature and to keep everything alive, I like to keep things alive because things might stop growing and we will not be able to use it.
Wally 1M- Yes, because the planet and environment will go bad. The school will be clean too.
Tom 1M- If we are not Eco Warriors, we will not have room to do anything, and the animals will choke. We could trip over things and hurt ourselves. The plants and trees will die because they are not getting enough sunlight. The rubbish will get hot and melt.

President’s Message
Hi All
The annual Walkathon is back on the 5th of September. Students can continue to gain sponsorship using the form and the P&C Event team has put together a pretty good list of prizes - best of luck to all the kids in their fundraising! If you’re attending the Walkathon and can help for an hour while you watch please let us know here.
Thanks to 99 Bikes in Pennant Hills who contributed to the first prizes!
PHPS Raffle Planning - raising funds towards solar panels for the school!
We are excited to start planning our Annual P&C Raffle - to be drawn at the Dance Spectacular on Friday 28th October. The raffle raises a significant amount of funds, which will be paid towards our 2022 initiative of solar panels for the school.
We need plenty of parents to support the raffle as many hands make this light, social and fun! Volunteering can be done in your own time and will not require a big commitment.
This is our major fundraiser this year so we ask a parent from every class to contribute an hour. Please add your name here
The September P&C (Tuesday 6 September 7.30pm) will be held in person in the K-2 hall. It would be great to catch up with many of you in person!
Thank you to the people who have already emailed me. The P&C is seeking volunteers for Gardens & Grounds, supporting occasional working bees and specific projects in keeping the school grounds looking great. We will have a confirmed date/s for the ‘Native Nibbles’ project soon. Thanks to the Green Team for coordinating the activity with Mrs Wasson. If you are interested, please email me - pandcpresident@gmail.com
If you would like to subscribe to our P&C meeting emails (minutes and agendas), please subscribe at the following link: http://eepurl.com/dlK3PD
Have a great week.

All of these items can be ordered through Flexischools as well. Vouchers that can be used at the canteen will also be available to purchase through Flexischools.
Walkathon
The Walkathon is now happening on Monday, September 5. Lunch orders will be available as usual on the day, with a slightly streamlined menu. Parents who will be in attendance during lunchtime are welcome to order something for themselves if they wish. We will also have a Snack and Drink Stall, similar to the one we ran at the 3-6 Carnival, however it will only be open for a short time. The more helpers we have, the faster we can serve, so anyone wishing to help will be most welcome.
Cutlery
In accordance with the NSW Government ban on single use plastics, the canteen is now dispensing wooden cutlery instead of plastic. Unfortunately the wooden spoons are no match for the Frozen Juice Cups that are very popular at the 3-6 site. We have been encouraging the students to bring a metal spoon from home that they can rinse after use and keep in their lunch box (to be given a good wash at home). If you could assist by allowing your child to bring an inexpensive and not precious teaspoon from home it would be most helpful.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
