Staffing Update
Over the last few weeks, the school has been working with the Staffing Unit within the Department of Education to permanently fill teaching positions at our school due to the finalisation of the retirements of Mrs Geary and Mrs Maddison.
I am now able to announce that Mrs Renae Cumming will be permanently joining us from the beginning of Term 4 on 3B. Mrs Cumming is an experienced teacher with a wealth of knowledge and will be an absolute asset to our school. Mrs Cumming will actually begin at PHPS this term in a casual capacity on 3B when Miss Dwyer begins her Maternity Leave. We warmly welcome Mrs Cumming to our wonderful community and thank her for being able to make herself available this term to support the continuity of learning for the students on 3B.
Last week the Open Merit panel for the classroom teacher position was finalised and the successful candidate is Miss Belinda Ings who will also be joining our school permanently next term. Miss Ings is very excited to be joining our community. Her role for next term is yet to be clarified and will be done so in the next few weeks. We thank Mr Stalenberg and Mrs Ford for the time and commitment to being a part of the panel to select Miss Ings.
Welcome both ladies to our community.
State Wind Band
Congratulations to Quinn (Year 6) and Kaiden (Year 5) who have been selected in the State Wind Band. This program involves students from across the state of NSW who have been preparing individually for months and will meet in Sydney in the coming week. The program culminates with two performances in the Sydney Opera House at the NSW State Festival of Instrumental Music and InConcert. What a fabulous achievement, well done!
PSSA Update
This Friday the Beecroft Zone PSSA will hold finals for the Winter Interschool competition that students have been participating in over the last two terms on a Friday afternoon. Our teams have been very successful. The following will be participating in the finals this Friday.
- Stage 3 Girls Football (Soccer) v West Pennant Hills PS (12:30pm at Pennant Hills Park)
- Stage 2 Girls Football (Soccer) v West Pennant Hills PS (10:30am at Pennant Hills Park)
- Stage 2 Boys Netball (Playoff 2nd v 3rd) v Cherrybrook PS (10:30am at Pennant Hills Park). If they win, they will play in the final at 11:25am against West Pennant Hills PS
Well done to all involved and special thanks to all the teachers that assist with Stage 2 and 3 sport every Friday. Good luck to those teams.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Book Parade
To celebrate book week, we held our Book Parade today and what a spectacle it was! A big effort was made by the students (and their families) to source and create wonderful costumes for the parade. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but every child and colleague I have spoken to said it was a great success! Thank you to Ms Davis and Mrs Mackay for all of your organisation.
Hills Public Speaking
After a wonderful morning parading around the K-2 site, our Years 3-6 students listened to their class finalists for the Hills Public Speaking Competition. A huge congratulations to all the students for putting in their best efforts! Thank you to Miss Hansell for your coordination of the event.
We are so excited to welcome our community back on school grounds for a large community event!

The show will begin promptly at 5pm and continue until 6pm. After this the P&C meeting will be held at 7:30 if you would like to continue on with other community members.

Each week, students in Stage One present their Group Talk to their class. Please find a link below to Will’s Group Talk. As we can see, he has put a lot of effort into his group talk and it has paid off – very well done Will and thank you for sharing!

Hi All
The annual Walkathon is back on the 5th of September. Students can continue to gain sponsorship using the form and the P&C Event team has put together a pretty good list of prizes - best of luck to all the kids in their fundraising! If you’re attending the Walkathon and can help for an hour while you watch please let us know here.
Thanks to 99 Bikes in Pennant Hills who contributed to the first prizes!
PHPS Raffle Planning - raising funds towards solar panels for the school!
We are excited to start planning our Annual P&C Raffle - to be drawn at the Dance Spectacular on Friday 28th October. The raffle raises a significant amount of funds, which will be paid towards our 2022 initiative of solar panels for the school.
We need plenty of parents to support the raffle as many hands make this light, social and fun! Volunteering can be done in your own time and will not require a big commitment.
This is our major fundraiser this year so we ask a parent from every class to contribute an hour. Please add your name here
The September P&C meeting, Tuesday 6 September at 7.30pm, will be held in person in the K-2 hall. It would be great to catch up with many of you in person!
Thank you to the people who have already emailed me. The P&C is seeking volunteers for Gardens & Grounds, supporting occasional working bees and specific projects in keeping the school grounds looking great. If you are interested, please email me - pandcpresident@gmail.com.
Have a great week.

ECO WARRIORS
On Friday September 2, we are planning to do over the counter sales during lunchtime at K-2. We will need a few helpers to make this possible. If you would like to help out I would love to hear from you!!
Walkathon
The Walkathon is now happening on Monday, September 5. Lunch orders will be available as usual on the day, with a slightly streamlined menu. Parents who will be in attendance during lunchtime are welcome to order something for themselves if they wish. We will also have a Snack and Drink Stall, similar to the one we ran at the 3-6 Carnival, however it will only be open for a short time. The more helpers we have, the faster we can serve, so anyone wishing to help will be most welcome.
Wooden Cutlery
In accordance with the NSW Government ban on single use plastics, the canteen is now dispensing wooden cutlery instead of plastic. Unfortunately the wooden spoons are no match for the Frozen Juice Cups that are very popular at the 3-6 site. We have been encouraging the students to bring a metal spoon from home that they can rinse after use and keep in their lunch box (to be given a good wash at home). If you could assist by allowing your child to bring an inexpensive and not precious teaspoon from home it would be most helpful.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.

The band program would like to offer all our Jazz Band players to take part in an Improvisation Workshop to be held later this term.
Jazz improvisation is the spontaneous invention of melodic solo lines or accompaniment parts in a performance of jazz music. It is one of the defining elements of jazz. Improvisation is composing on the spot, when a player (or singer) invents melodies and lines over a chord progression played by rhythm section instruments (piano, guitar, bass) and accompanied by drums.
Rose Foster, our Training and Intermediate band conductor, would be running the workshops. Rose has a long history with Jazz bands and plays in them professionally. She also conducts Jazz Improv workshops at other schools.
I think we would need at least 8 students to make it viable.
