Jazz Band – Ryde Eisteddfod
Last Thursday I had the opportunity to supervise and watch the school’s Jazz Band perform at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club. The 16 students performed superbly, and as they were the first band of the day they set the bar extremely high for the other schools that followed. As it turned out their standard held up to its lofty heights throughout the Eisteddfod with the Band being placed first in their section. A fabulous performance. Special thanks to the many parents who gave up their time to transport the students and instruments for this performance. It was certainly one to remember. Thanks also to Mr Odams the Conductor for his efforts with the band, and the Band program, over many years. Well done to all.
Athletics Carnival
Last Tuesday the school was able to hold its first Athletics Carnival in three years, and what a magnificent day it was. It was wonderful to see so many students participating in many races and demonstrating the Penno spirit by supporting their peers. It was very pleasing to see so many parents come down and support the students. Well done to Mr Bryant and his team for their seamless organisation. Congratulations to all competitors. Information for those who will be selected to represent our school at the upcoming Beecroft Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival will be sent home shortly.
NSW PSSA State Football (Soccer) State Carnival – Bathurst
Last week Lily (Year 6) represented Sydney North PSSA at the State Carnival. I had the opportunity to speak with her last Friday and she was very proud of her efforts at the carnival and the team did very well. In fact, they placed first in their pool and were all ready to play off in the semi-finals against the team that placed second in the other pool when mother nature stepped in and washed out the carnival. Certainly a disappointing end to an exceptionally strong performance in the Pool stages at the carnival. Well done Lily!
Kind Regards

Every year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through its annual Book Week and Book of the Year awards. The aim of Book Week is to highlight the importance of reading. During this time schools, libraries, bookshops, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature. This year, the theme is “Dreaming with eyes open …”
Book Character parade
To celebrate this event, we will be holding a Book Character parade on Tuesday 23 August. On this day we are asking the students to come dressed as their favourite book character for this special fun filled parade. There has been discussion during library lessons to help students with ideas for their costumes, with the suggestion that some students may like to use their creative talents and make a costume. The costumes do not need to be elaborate and there are plenty of ideas on Pinterest and Google if you need some inspiration.
Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be held on the K-2 site at 10.30 am.
We look forward to celebrating this literary event and seeing amazing book characters.

President’s Message
Hi All,
Thanks to everyone who joined the virtual P&C meeting last Tuesday night, it was great to kick start Term 3. Also a big thank you to the School for a well organised 3-6 Athletics carnival, I know the kids had a lot of fun on the day, and thanks to Canteen for providing snacks.
Our annual Walkathon has been postponed due to the Cross Country date moving to 2nd August. We will update you as soon as we have a new date, more details are below.
Students can continue to gain sponsorship using the form in preparation for the Walkathon
The Art and Sip night is being held for parents this Friday 12th August in the school hall. Grab a friend or three and come along for a fun night (BYO supper and drinks). There are still a handful of tickets left so be quick! Pay via Flexischools, the details are in the poster below.
PHPS Raffle Planning - raising funds towards solar panels for the school!
We are excited to start planning our Annual P&C Raffle - to be drawn at the Dance Spectacular on Friday 28th October. The raffle raises a significant amount of funds, which will be paid towards our 2022 initiative of solar panels for the school.
We need plenty of parents to support the raffle as many hands make this light, social and fun! Volunteering can be done in your own time and will not require a big commitment.
Here’s the link to Sign Up to the team. This is our major fundraiser this year so a parent from every class to join the team would be ideal.
The September P&C (Tuesday 6 September 7.30pm) will be held in person in the K-2 hall, it would be great to catch up with many of you in person!
The P&C is seeking volunteers for Gardens & Grounds, supporting occasional working bees and specific projects in keeping the school grounds looking great. If you have an interest please email me - pandcpresident@gmail.com.
The P&C held a poster competition at the Welcome back BBQ to promote our school’s Return and Earn program. Posters had to include useful information such as:If you would like to subscribe to our P&C meeting emails (minutes and agendas), please subscribe at the following link: http://eepurl.com/dlK3PD

Our Canteen stall at the 3-6 Carnival was a huge success!! We sold out of quite a few items, which I will remember for next year.
Thank you so much to Rebecca D, Amanda S and Alicia C for your help in serving the hordes.
Please remember the “Stage 3 PSSA ALERT” where applicable when ordering lunches on Fridays.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.
