Dance Spectacular 2022
This year’s Dance Spectacular is on Friday 28 October. Extensive planning is well and truly underway and promises to be an event not to miss. As the term progresses, and into next term, you can expect to receive regular updates with information relating to the night. As every student is involved in the evening it is imperative that all parents keep themselves up-to-date with the arrangements. Mrs McLaren is leading a team of teachers to ensure the event is an outstanding success and we thank her for her passion, insight and dedication to the students.

Due to the advice that all schools have received from the NSW Department of Education and NSW Health relating to the current wave of Covid-19 we have postponed several planned events for Education Week. All these events will take place in the future when the current wave has eased.
- Walkathon
- Student Showcases – Open Classrooms
- Performance Assembly
These events have been postponed due to Covid-19 and we feel that we will be able to hold these events later this term/year in an environment that is safer for all and allow more families to participate.
I apologise for any inconvenience that these decisions may cause. However, as always, the health and wellbeing of the community is at the forefront of every decision we make during this difficult time. Please be assured that these activities will go ahead later in the year when the current wave subsides.
Friday Interschool Sport
On most Fridays (weather permitting) students from Stages 2 and 3 represent our school in competitive sport against other schools within Beecroft Zone PSSA. All students that participate love representing their school and do a marvellous job in doing so. The weather this year has made it very challenging for all involved. The school’s teams are doing very well, and I thought I would share with you how they are progressing so far in the competition.
Stage 2 – There are ten schools that participate.
Boys Netball – Currently equal first
Girls Netball – Currently equal second, one point behind first
Boys Soccer – Currently equal third
Girls Soccer – Currently Equal first
Stage 3 – There are 14 schools that participate.
Boys Netball – Currently second
Girls Netball – Currently equal third
Boys Soccer – Currently fourth
Girls Soccer – Equal first
Keep up the good work boys and girls. A special thank you to the teachers that give up their time to support these teams. It is very much appreciated.
P&C Meeting
Tonight’s P&C meeting will be held virtually from 7:30pm. I look forward to joining you then to discuss many exciting initiatives that the P&C has planned for this year. It was great to see many parents attending the P&C BBQ at the end of Week 1. The weather wasn’t exactly favourable, so thank you to the many families that took the time to attend. The children seemed to be engaged in the scavenger hunt and the Green Team’s information board was great to see. Well done to all involved.
Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT)
Each student should have received an additional box of five RATs yesterday. These are to be used for symptomatic testing.
Please ensure that you notify the school and Service NSW if your child tests positive to COVID-19. It is also important to note that you must notify the school if your child is considered a Close Contact. This means that if anyone who lives in your place of residence tests positive to COVID-19 you must notify the school.
Kind Regards
Matt Pinchbeck

President’s Message
Hi All
It was great to see so many families at the P&C Welcome back BBQ last Friday, 22 July and have the opportunity to do some socialising over a sausage sandwich. The Return and Earn Poster competition and scavenger hunt was also great entertainment for the kids. Thanks to Jane C, Liz F, and Chris L for organising the fantastic activities and prizes! Also to the volunteers Matt C, Dee H, Rebecca D, Mike S, Luke W, Nero, Christine K and all other parents who helped on the bbq.

The Art and Sip night is being held for parents on Friday 12 August in the school hall. Grab a friend or three and come along for a fun night (BYO supper and drinks). Numbers are limited so be quick! Pay via Flexischools, the details are in the poster below.
PHPS Raffle Planning - raising funds towards solar panels for the school!
We are excited to start planning our Annual P&C Raffle - to be drawn at the Dance Spectacular on Friday 28th October. The raffle raises a significant amount of funds, which will be paid towards our 2022 initiative of solar panels for the school.
We need plenty of parents to support the raffle as many hands make this light, social and fun! Volunteering can be done in your own time and will not require a big commitment. Here’s the link to Sign Up to the team
The P&C meeting will be held via Teams Tuesday 2 August 7.30pm.

A great day for families to watch our children walk laps around the school, raising money for each lap. We have some amazing prizes that will be confirmed soon!
Thanks to Chloe L and Lara S for helping with preparing the lap cards last Friday, your time is much appreciated.
What Should I Do?

- Ask family and friends for sponsorship eg $1 per lap.
- K-2 students usually complete 5-6 laps of the K-2 site
- 3-6 students usually complete 6+ laps of the K-2 site

ON THE DAY
- Come along to the Walkathon on the day (once confirmed) to cheer them on!
- Order your lunch through the canteen with your child or bring your own picnic
AFTER THE EVENT
- Ask for the sponsorship money based on the number of laps on the lap card your child will bring home.

“Birthday Buckets” are a nice way for your child to celebrate their birthday with their whole class, as each child is offered a frozen Quelch stick. (They love them no matter how cold it is!!!)
Quelch Sticks are 100% fruit juice.
You can order a Birthday Bucket through Flexischools. Please order enough for everyone in the class. The number you enter is how many Quelch Sticks will be in the bucket, and how many you are paying for. It is 60c per Quelch Stick.
Please remember the “Stage 3 PSSA ALERT” where applicable when ordering lunches on Fridays.
If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in the canteen, please contact me.

New Pricing
From Monday 18 July, due to recent increases in our supplier costs, the Uniform Shop has slightly increased prices. In conjunction with the price increase we have removed the bag fee and credit card surcharges that you have previously been charged. This allows us to implement a single price list that will be used for both online and in-shop purchases. The new pricelist is available to be viewed in Flexischools.
Please note, we are trying our hardest to balance the price increases from our suppliers and maintaining an affordable uniform for everyone. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please do not hesitate to have a confidential conversation with the school regarding your circumstances.
Appointments
The Uniform Shop will continue to be open by appointment only for the foreseeable future. This will assist us in maintaining physical distancing and minimise waiting times for you to be served.
- Appointments can be booked on Eventbrite using the following link: https://phps-uniform-shop.eventbrite.com
- Appointment times are in 15-minute increments and are open to 2-3 bookings per available timeslot. As these are not individual appointments you may need to wait until the person before you has been served.
- If the available times are not suitable, please contact us via email at phpsuniformshop@gmail.com to organise alternative arrangements.
Second Hand Items
Second Hand / Preloved items will continue to be available online via Flexischools. Only items in very good condition will be added for sales online, and these items currently will not be available for purchase directly from the shop. If you don’t find what you are looking for on Flexischools, you can book an appointment to look through the unsorted/unlisted items at the shop.
For all enquiries, feel free to contact me via email.

- Full exam (Face to Face) - This takes place at the Conservatorium Of Music in the city, and would be a performance to the designated examiner. This is the most comprehensive exam, and the students get the most out of it, but it does involve scales and technical work as well as learning their performance pieces.
- Repertoire exam (Face to Face) - This is also at the Conservatorium of Music, in front of an examiner, but does not include technical work. Essentially this is performance pieces only.
- Repertoire exam (video) - This would be a video recorded at a studio (or at your home if you wish) and would include performance pieces only. Please note that backing tracks are no longer allowed, so students will need to be accompanied live by a pianist (which your tutor should be able to assist in arranging if needed).
- Ryde Eisteddfod: Thursday 4 August - JB
- ASBOF, UNSW Kensington: Sunday 7 August - SCB, ICB, & TB
- Performance Assembly: Wednesday afternoon, 7 September - TB, ICB
- Music by Moonlight, NWPS: Saturday 17 Sept - SCB

- Crowding the door - please don't let the students crowd the door with bags and instrument cases. School bags on the silver shelves, instrument cases on the ramp.
- Behavior: If children are talking out of turn please help the conductors. If they have a question, classroom rules apply, they raise their hand and wait to be asked. Please use the red "Student Behavior'' if behavior warrants it.
- Training Band: When walking the students back to the 3-6 site try to have them line up in pairs on the path to the side. Check the head count to the marked roll. Tell the students to walk nicely and stick together on the walk up. If possible, have a parent front and rear and discourage wandering.
- Packing up the room: Students are responsible for packing up the music room after rehearsal. Percussionists should be getting the percussion equipment back toward the wall and covered up, and ensure all the sticks and mallets are in the case. Packing the room is not to be left to the conductor, or the parent helpers. All students should be involved, and students should not leave until the room is in an acceptable condition.
