Exciting News
Congratulations to Mrs Dakin who gave birth yesterday to a healthy baby girl, Sophie. Mum and bub are doing very well, and as you can imagine the family is extremely excited with their new addition. We wish the entire family every happiness with their new bundle of joy.
Athletics Carnival
The school’s Athletics Carnival will now be held next Tuesday 2 August at Pennant Hills Park. Hopefully, the weather will be kinder to us so that we can hold it then. The Canteen will be operating on the day, and further information relating to its operations can be found later in this newsletter.
Education Week
Due to the advice that all schools have received from the NSW Department of Education and NSW Health relating to the current wave of Covid-19, we have postponed several planned events for Education Week next week. All these events will take place in the future when the current wave has eased.
- Walkathon
- Student Showcases – Open Classrooms
- Performance Assembly
These events have been postponed due to Covid-19 and we feel that we will be able to hold these events later this term/year in an environment that is safer for all and allow more families to participate.
Next week’s NAIDOC incursion will be going ahead at this stage with some slight modifications to ensure the safest possible environment. The activities will be held outside and in cohorts where possible.
I apologise for any inconvenience that these decisions may cause. However, as always, the health and wellbeing of the community is at the forefront of every decision we make during this difficult time. Please be assured that these activities will go ahead later in the year when the current wave subsides.
Medications
Some students may require medications throughout the school day for any number of reasons. Staff at school are trained and able to administer medications that have been prescribed by a doctor. If at any stage your child requires medication throughout the day, please contact the school’s office on 9484 1134 to discuss your situation. The office staff will provide you with the necessary advice and forms to be completed to support the recovery of your child.
Important Information for Parents
The department recognises that family breakdowns take place. Unless there is formal notice, it is assumed that both parents have shared and equal parental responsibility for their children and both parents have been involved in decisions regarding their children’s education. This also means the school recognises that each parent has equal duties, obligations, responsibilities and opportunities relating to matters involving the school.
If changes occur in your family relationship which might impact on the relationship between the school and your family, you should advise the school immediately. This includes providing copies of any relevant court orders.
Car Parks
The car parks on both sites are for staff only between 8am and 4pm. Too many parents are using the car parks for their convenience when they are running late in the morning. I completely understand that the parking around the school can be problematic in the morning, however, parking in the car park poses a safety risk for all students and staff. Hence the decision to limit the times parents can access the carpark. Thank you for your support with this matter.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Stage One Incursion
Our Year One and Year Two students participated in a Science Incursion on Monday where they experimented with food chemistry. The ‘Ohhhh’s’ and ‘Ahhhh’s’ that they were expressing as they were conducting the experiments was a joy to listen to. They looked at how materials can be combined or not combined and how they can be altered based on mixing with other materials. They used eggs, milk, food colouring, cabbage juice, vinegar, sultanas and a variety of other food products. What a blast!
Around the School
Unfortunately, our Athletics Carnival didn’t go ahead today due to the grounds being closed. But that didn’t stop the fun across PHPS!

New Pricing
From Monday 18 July, due to recent increases in our supplier costs, the Uniform Shop has slightly increased prices. In conjunction with the price increase we have removed the bag fee and credit card surcharges that you have previously been charged. This allows us to implement a single price list that will be used for both online and in-shop purchases. The new pricelist is available to be viewed in Flexischools.
Please note, we are trying our hardest to balance the price increases from our suppliers and maintaining an affordable uniform for everyone. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please do not hesitate to have a confidential conversation with the school regarding your circumstances.
Appointments
The Uniform Shop will continue to be open by appointment only for the foreseeable future. This will assist us in maintaining physical distancing and minimise waiting times for you to be served.
- Appointments can be booked on Eventbrite using the following link: https://phps-uniform-shop.eventbrite.com
- Appointment times are in 15-minute increments and are open to 2-3 bookings per available timeslot. As these are not individual appointments you may need to wait until the person before you has been served.
- If the available times are not suitable, please contact us via email at phpsuniformshop@gmail.com to organise alternative arrangements.
Second Hand Items
Second Hand / Preloved items will continue to be available online via Flexischools. Only items in very good condition will be added for sales online, and these items currently will not be available for purchase directly from the shop. If you don’t find what you are looking for on Flexischools, you can book an appointment to look through the unsorted/unlisted items at the shop.
For all enquiries, feel free to contact me via email.

Regarding Wet Weather
If it's raining the flutes, clarinets, & trumpet players can put their cases under their chairs inside and pack away in there.
Unfortunately the larger instruments are a little harder, ideally if it's only a little wet they will need to pack away outside on the ramped area. If it's bucketing down, then having them pack away inside may be necessary.

Award Worksheets
We're now at the beginning of Term 3, so Training and Intermediate bands really should have completed their current Term 1 & Term 2 worksheets. There are still a number of people who have not submitted these. Please work with your children's tutor to get these signed off as soon as possible.
Once complete these are to be submitted through the Worksheet Submission Web Form.
If anyone needs a particular worksheet you can print them from the Band web pages here.
Parent Helper Duties
A full list of parent helper duties is available here.
- Crowding the door - please don't let the students crowd the door with bags and instrument cases. School bags should be put on the silver shelves, and instrument cases can be lined up on the ramp.
- Behaviour: If children are misbehaving please help the conductors. Just because they're not playing, doesn't mean they should be talking. If they have a question, classroom rules apply, they raise their hand and wait to be asked. There is a red "Student Behaviour'' book which can be used to write children's names in, if a name is in there repeatedly then we will get in touch with their parents.
- Training Band: When walking the students back to the 3-6 site try to have them line up in pairs on the path to the side. Count them twice, check the head count to the marked roll. Tell the students to walk nicely and stick together on the walk up. If possible, have a parent front and rear and discourage wandering. Once all accounted for you are free and thank you for helping.
- Packing up the room: The students are primarily responsible for packing up the music room after band rehearsal. Percussionists should be getting the percussion equipment back toward the wall and covered up, and the rest of the band packing up chairs and stands. It is not to be left to the conductor, or the parent helpers. All students should be involved, and students should not leave until the room is in an acceptable condition.
