NAPLAN Presentation
On Tuesday 15 November at 5:30pm - 6:30pm the school will be presenting the data on this year’s NAPLAN results. The presentation will take place in the school hall located on the K-2 site. The data will focus on whole school data, trends and future professional learning for staff and whole school directions. We will not be discussing individual student data at this presentation. As always if you have a query about your individual child’s academic progress, please talk with their class teacher.
Calmsley Hill City Farm Excursion
Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining Kindergarten on their first excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm. It was a fantastic day for the students where they had the opportunity to see a farm in operation. They were able to see many animals, milk a cow, take a tractor ride, watch someone crack a whip, a sheep being shorn, and a working dog in action. The weather was beautiful, and it was a fantastic day for the students who all had a great day. Thank you to the parents who were able to come along to support the students, and Mrs Rudd for her organisation.
Partners in Learning Survey
Each year the school seeks the opinions of its stakeholders; students, parents and staff. Students complete two surveys throughout the year, which have been completed.
Now is the opportunity for our parent/carer community to share their thoughts and feelings about PHPS. The results of this survey help paint the picture of the wants, needs and expectations of our community to assist the school in planning for the future. I encourage everyone to take the time to complete the survey. It takes between 20-30 minutes and can be completed on any device. The survey was due to close at the end of last week, however, due to floods in certain areas it has been extended until Friday 18 November.
To access the survey please click on the link below.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Remembrance Day
This Friday, 11 November we will be holding a Remembrance Day Service at the flagpole on the K-2 site. Parents and friends are more than welcome to attend. Please ensure you arrive by 10:45am. The service will involve our students paying respect to the many men and women have made sacrifices to ensure our freedom and liberties that we enjoy today. Thank you Mrs Donoghue for your organisation.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Christmas Toy Appeal
2022 has been another difficult year for many families and this year we are supporting the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network by donating new toys to children of all ages in hospital during this holiday period. Your contribution will make an immediate impact on the lives of these children. The Children’s Hospitals (Westmead and Randwick) have patients who range from newborns to 18 year-olds and would appreciate any donations of new toys to cater for this age range. The majority of toys that they receive are for the 3-11 year age range, so if you could think outside of this age bracket, it would be very much appreciated.
A few things to consider when donating toys;
- Please only bring the toys to the school hall on the nominated days and times
- All toys must meet Australian Safety Standards
- For health and safety reasons, toys must be brand new, unopened and unwrapped (this allows them to decide who the toy should go to)
- Glue or paint in craft kits must be non-toxic and non-flammable
- All DVDs need to be G or PG Rated
The following won't be accepted:
- Toy guns, swords or war games
- Bikes, scooters, tricycles, roller skates etc
Gift cards are also highly recommended!

Kindergarten Orientation
Our Kindergarten Orientation sessions are in full swing, with the third session this morning. All pre-Kindergarten students were very settled this morning, smiling while they were waiting to be taken to the Kindergarten classrooms. We look forward to welcoming them on a full time basis next year!
A New Building
Last week saw a new demountable being installed on the K-2 site. We are not sure just yet what the building will be used for, but we have many potential ideas!
Around the School
2M
Stage One have been learning about sound waves in Science so Ms Stevens took this as an opportunity to incorporate some Science into her Music lesson with 2M. They explored what sound waves could look like visually using part of the Google Suite of resources. They were so engaged in the high to low pitch sounds and what that could look like when visually represented. How fun Ms Stevens!

President’s Message
Hi All
Thanks to everyone who joined the P&C General Meeting last week via Teams. The December meeting will be held in person on Tuesday 6 December at 7:30pm in the hall on the K-2 site. This is a great chance to celebrate the end of the year and say thank you to our many volunteers from 2022. We’ll also farewell some families who are leaving PHPS in 2022.
Thank you to our Garden team volunteers who continue to work on the Native Nibbles garden on the K-2 site. Great progress and hopefully the weather holds off in the next few weeks for planting.
Thanks to Bec S for arranging the Interrelate sessions last week. They were well attended and valuable for the families across the 3-6 years.
We have made great progress towards the Solar Panel fundraising. I’ll be providing an update on the total dollars raised in the next few weeks.
Have a great week.

Nibbles Native Garden
JOIN US ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12 TO CONTINUE THE NIBBLES NATIVE GARDEN
Progress Update: Moving Piles
After the somewhat tense three days of gusty winds which threated the blow our "sea of cardboard" all over the school, the winds finally eased (phew!!). On Saturday we took delivery of 15 tonnes of soil (Australian native mix) and on Sunday our wonderful volunteers rolled in through the gates bearing shovels, buckets, barrows and good cheer to help distribute the soil overthe beds. Working together we got it done in record time...even though there was as much fun, conversation and banter as shovelling!
The mulch however, did not arrive as expected so we got an early mark and were home before lunchtime!
We will take delivery of more soil and mulch this week, so volunteers and all the same equipment is required to move the new piles. How long it takes will depend on the number of volunteers that show up. So if you plan on coming later in the day be sure to join the WhatsApp group where updates are posted to make sure we are still there.
- When: This Saturday 12 November, 10am - ??
- Where: K-2 site
- What to bring: Sunscreen, hat and garden gloves; water and snacks, a shovel and barrow (or buckets for kids), a rake (preferably metal but plastic will do)
For updates on Native Nibbles working bees or the PHPS Garden Group, join our WhatsApp group using the link below. https://chat.whatsapp.com/DNsYfzW1bLLHFdBnw6Yyez
The WhatsApp group is where rain check, last minute info, requests and changes are made so it is helpful to be signed up there.
Thank you!
BIG thanks to our volunteers who showed up on the weekend with their can-do attitude and big smiles - you made the day so much fun!!
