Welcome to Term 4!
We hope you have had a fabulous vacation period and are excited about the term ahead. It promises to be jam packed with many school and P&C activities on the cards. Please ensure you stay up to date by reading each week’s newsletter and subscribe to the SZ app for all the necessary information. The Dance Spectacular is only a few weeks away and everyone is very excited. Today we held a school rehearsal, and all the dances look fantastic. I, for one, am very much looking forward to the concert.
Staffing Update
Yesterday saw Mrs Renae Cumming and Miss Belinda Ings permanently join our school. Both ladies are very excited to be joining our wonderful community. Mrs Cumming is taking 3B and Miss Ings is taking Computers for this term. We warmly welcome them and are excited about the skills and knowledge that they bring to our community.
2023 Planning
The school has already begun planning for 2023. The process is quite lengthy and detailed to ensure that each student has their needs met. Teachers will spend hours deliberating over next year’s classes. To assist us with this if you have any requests can you please email me at school at pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and attention it to "Mr Pinchbeck 2023 Class Request." Please ensure your request is explained clearly. I can assure you that all requests are considered, however, I am unable to confidently state that all requests will be granted. Please chat with your child’s teacher should you have any questions about this matter.
If you are planning on leaving our school at the end of the year, can you please email the school at pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and attention it "Leaving PHPS." This assists the school with its planning and also ensures that you meet your requirements regarding enrolment in school. Please contact the office on 9484 1134 if you have any questions about this.
Covid-19 Updates
You may have heard that National Cabinet announced their decision to remove the isolation requirements for COVID-19 positive cases. The NSW Department of Education is working on this to make sure our COVID-smart settings are aligned when the change to isolation comes into effect on Friday 14 October. In the meantime, we will continue to follow the same measures we had in place for Term 3. I will provide an update once we have confirmation from the department.
Due to the ongoing pandemic and stay-at-home orders that were in place over the previous two years, NSW Health have noted that some children and young people have missed out on the non-COVID school-based vaccination programs that they would have taken part in. The department would like to remind parents and carers to make sure that all of their children’s vaccinations are up to date, including other non-COVID vaccinations. If you are unsure about whether your child has missed any vaccinations, speak to your GP or go to, NSW Health's Immunisation requirements in primary schools.
Parents and carers who have children with persistent or ongoing Covid-19 symptoms. are encouraged to have these assessed by their local health care professional. These symptoms may be related to other illnesses that require treatment and management by a doctor.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you again for your ongoing support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe. I’d like to wish all our students and their families a great start to Term 4.
Kind Regards
Matt Pinchbeck
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back to what will be a fabulous and busy term full of wonderful learning opportunities and creative arts extravaganzas!
The Native Nibbles Garden
A few years ago, we applied for a Sustainable School Grant of $15 000 and won! Our Native Nibbles Project encompasses a 60+ metre garden along the fence line of the oval on the K-2 site. This project has been in regular consultation with our community through the P&C and we have some very heavily involved and dedicated individuals who are eager to see the project through. Thank you, Kate Ashton and Aidan Moore for pushing through some setbacks and really taking the project by its horns. We aim to have native fruits, vegetables and herbs for our students to access and utilise during science, cooking and art activities in particular. We hope that our native birds and bees will appreciate this natural stepping stone along our nature corridor from the bird haven.
The Native Nibbles Garden builds on our vision to have deeper connections with Country, exposing our community to the many native food products and embedding the space in our daily practice. There will be gabion benches throughout the garden to encourage an outdoor learning space and providing a much needed (attractive) refuge along the fence line.
Thank you to the PHPS P&C Green Team, Sean Hickey, Eva Guo, Julie Cole, Chris Laing, Melina Donovan, Kate Ashton and Aidan Moore, as well as the students who came along to help over the weekend to install the coreten edging. It looks fantastic!
If you would like to be involved in future phases of the garden installation, please keep an eye out in the newsletter and through SZapp for requests for volunteers, they really are a great group to work with and you will be directly contributing to the PHPS learning environment.
Year 2 Introduction to Music
Yesterday, some of our talented musicians from the 3-6 site came down to demonstrate to our Year 2 students, just some of the instruments available if they wish to join one of the school bands. A wonderful introduction to some of the music options here at Pennant Hills, we are so lucky!
Well done Raymond W, Amelia M, Marni H, Enoch P, Tahlia C, Finn K, Quinn S and Sofia E for their wonderful demonstrations and a big thank you to Dave Odams, Sonya DeBono and Mrs Griffith for their organisation and giving up their time to present to our eager Year 2 students.
During the last week of term 3, we had some very talented students perform in the Primary Proms at Sydney Town Hall. Ms Stevens was very proud of you all and said you did a most fabulous job, well done! Thank you Ms Stevens for your time in supporting these students and attending.
Disco
Everyone had an amazing time at the disco during the last week of term! A great turn out of students. Thank you to all of the parents who supported us by listening to our instructions for ease of movement, picking up your children on time and saying thank you to those staff in attendance. We love going that bit extra for our students, and a little bit of thanks definitely goes a long way.

Our School Leaders definitely don’t mind a boogie and can be seen regularly dancing along to songs during the K-2 assemblies. They are an amazing group of people and truly do their best to engage all of their peers. Thanks leaders!
Dance Spectacular
You would be aware that this year is a Dance Spectacular year! Friday 28 October our Dance Spectacular will be brought to life at the Hillsong Convention Centre. Today we had our first whole school rehearsal and it is all coming together beautifully!
World Teachers’ Day
Friday 28 October is also World Teachers’ Day. Having our School Spectacular on this day highlights some of the ways the PHPS staff support and engage our students and go above and beyond for our community. Our students work hard and play hard and to ensure that they get the very best, our amazing staff turn up each and every day with the students at the forefront of their minds.
This years theme is ‘Hats off to Teachers’ and if you would like to contribute a message of thanks or to share what your child’s teacher means to them or you, please add a sticky note to this Jamboard and I will collate for our amazing teachers for World Teacher’s Day.
Kind Regards
