Year 6 -7 Transition
To enrol your child in Year 7 for 2024, you will need to complete an Expression of Interest for Year 6 to Year 7 transition. The Expression of Interest (EOI) lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.
The EOI process is now available online. After you submit an EOI and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.
If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please let us know by completing a Placement Not Required form.
If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete an EOI and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.
The online process will guide you through your options and collect the information required to make the process as smooth as possible.
For parents/carers who are not able to complete an application online, a paper EOI form can be collected from the school office.
For more information about moving to high school, visit Going to a public school.

NAPLAN
NAPLAN begins next week for our Year 3 and 5 students. Students in these grades have been familiarising themselves with the test format in preparation for next week. These assessments are a snapshot of student’s potential achievement. They are indicative of how a student achieves on a particular day. The best person to speak with about your child’s academic achievement is their classroom teacher. If you have any concerns please arrange a time to meet with them.
To best support your child during NAPLAN we recommend the following;
- A good night’s sleep
- Healthy diet
- Encouragement to do their best
The data captured from these assessments, when released to the school and parents, can provide some great insights into student, grade and whole school strengths and weaknesses.
P&C AGM and Meeting
Tonight, the P&C will be holding its Annual General Meeting and following this they will hold their March meeting. This meeting will begin at 7:30pm and will be held in the school hall on the K-2 site.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
Each year the school arranges a time for parents and carers to meet with teachers to discuss the academic progress and needs of their child. These meetings are held at the end of Term 1 to allow the student and teacher relationship to have developed to a point where they both feel they know each other to ensure the meetings are beneficial to support student growth.
These meetings for most classes will take place in Weeks 10 (week starting 27 March) and 11 (week starting 3 April) of this term. In next week’s newsletter there will be a link to allow you to book a convenient time for your family to meet with the teacher.
Please note that the 3/4 Sugar gliders Parent/ Teacher Meetings will take place in Week 9 (week starting 20 March). The Parent/Teacher Meetings for 1/2 Cockatoos will take place in Weeks 9 (week starting 20 March) and 10 (week starting 27 March).

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
NAPLAN – Year 3 and Year 5 Students
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program, Literacy and Numeracy) is occurring earlier this year, in a couple of weeks to be exact, for our Year 3 and Year 5 students. To prepare your child for the assessments, teachers will be conducting familiarisation activities and engage students in the demonstration site to ensure that they are comfortable with the platform.
We ask that all students bring in a pair of over-the-head headphones, labelled with their name and class for next week. The headphones require a standard headphone jack to plug into the laptops, similar to the picture below.
Students may also bring in a computer mouse if they wish.
NAPLAN begins on Wednesday 15 March and is planned as follows;
- Wednesday 15 March - Writing
- Thursday 16 March - Reading
- Monday 20 March - Conventions of Language
- Tuesday 21 March - Numeracy
If your child is absent on one of these days, we are required to conduct the assessments in order and they will complete the assessments upon their return, if within the timeframe provided by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). Assessments must be completed by Monday 27 March.
NAPLAN is not something to worry about and it is definitely not something we want our students to worry about. It is a one-off assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that assist in data trends across several years and for different cohorts.
As a school, we use this information to create areas of focus that help inform our goals for our School Improvement Plan. We also use this information to adapt our programs, both within the classroom and through additional programs like those implemented by the Learning and Wellbeing Team to ensure we are supporting, extending and engaging our students in their areas of need. Our teachers analyse the data from NAPLAN and make reference to it, along with their own observational data, anecdotal records, work samples and internal assessments to differentiate their programs for your child.
As parents/carers you may be interested in your child's NAPLAN results as an indicator for how they performed comparatively to students across the country. Keeping in mind, that it is a one-off assessment, we all have good and bad days. Although NAPLAN results will not be provided until much later in the year, discussions about your child and their engagement with the curriculum can occur during parent/teacher meetings which are scheduled for the end of this term. Your child's teacher will be able to provide you with the most accurate information.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please email the school, attn: Mrs Wasson.
Around the School
A snapshot of some of the activities our students participated in today. 6S were deep in discussion around bushfires and their impact on the envieonment, 4/5B were reading during literacy groups, 1Q were handwriting and KE were engaged in a mathematics activity.

Our new school Values are:
- Respect
- Responsibility
- Aspire
The first of our new school values that we will be exploring is respect. Respect is something that is very important to the community of PHPS. Here are what some of the students at PHPS think respect is:
“Respect is caring about others” - Abby, Kindergarten
“Respect is paying attention to others and making them feel heard” - Alex, Year 4
“Respect means to look after school property” - Audrey, Year 4
In our classrooms this term, we will be exploring our new school values, including respect and what it means to be respectful.

Celebrating Harmony Week 20-26 March
Harmony Week is all about celebrating the amazing cultures that make up our country. Australia is one of the most multicultural countries in the world – from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the 49% of Australians who were born overseas or have a parent who was.
Our cultural diversity is a great strength and brings with it a whole host of traditions, religions, languages, and of course, food! It helps us to do things in different ways, reduces discrimination and lets us accept difference.
Harmony Week always includes the 21 March, which is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The message of Harmony Week is “everyone belongs”. Orange is the colour chosen to represent this week as traditionally it signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
On Wednesday 22 March, we are asking the students to wear a touch of orange e.g. orange t-shirt, orange socks, orange ribbons etc. or if they wish to do so, wear their national dress to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
We are looking forward to celebrating our multicultural society.

SCHEDULED ROADWORK - BOUNDARY ROAD
Good afternoon,
In response to the wet weather events across Sydney in 2022, Transport for NSW has been investigating damage to the state road network using artificial intelligence software during inspections. Investigations have identified a
number of state roads, including Boundary Road that need repair from wet weather damage.
This work will involve replacing asphalt and repainting road markings on two sections of Boundary Road in both directions. The first location is between Bellamy Street and Pennant Hills Road, Pennant Hills and the second is
between New Line Road and Cedarwood Drive, Cherrybrook.
Our Work Schedule
We will be on site for 20 night shifts across both sites for asphalting between Monday 20 March and Friday 5 May 2023, weather permitting.
Of these 20 shifts, eight will be carried out between Bellamy Street and Pennant Hills Road, Pennant Hills, and 12 will be carried out between New Line Road and Cedarwood Drive, Cherrybrook. There will be an additional two night shifts of line marking at each location, however we do not expect you to hear this work.
Our night work hours are 8pm to 5am Sunday to Friday, working up to five nights a week. There will be no work on Saturdays or public holidays.
How Will The Work Affect You?
Our work needs to be carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic and reduce safety risks to our workers, pedestrians, bus users and motorists. It may be noisy at times, but we will do everything we can to minimise noise impacts, including using quieter equipment where we can, turning off equipment and vehicles when they are not in use and completing the noisier tasks by midnight.
Driveway Access Delays
When we are working past driveways, residents may have to wait up to 30 minutes before entering or exiting their driveway while the asphalt cools. Traffic control will be on site to assist residents. We encourage residents to park in nearby side streets if they need to leave their property while we are working near or outside their property.
Bus Stop Changes
When we are resurfacing past bus stops we will need to temporarily relocate the bus stop drop off and pick up locations while our resurfacing machinery moves past and the asphalt cools. Bus stops will be relocated as close as possible to the original stop. Traffic controllers will be on site to assist bus users.
Traffic Changes
There will be temporary traffic changes to make sure the work zone is safe. As part of these traffic changes, we will implement a contraflow traffic arrangement. This traffic arrangement will see motorists temporarily redirected onto the opposite carriageway to the work for a short distance whilst passing the work zone. Motorists unable to access businesses, homes or side streets within the contraflow are advised to use the next available side street after they exit the contraflow to redirect to their destination.
Pedestrians using pedestrian crossings will not be impacted as traffic controllers will be onsite to assist pedestrians to cross safely. Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.
For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience while we complete this important work.
