Sydney North Dance Festival
Last Thursday Mrs Wasson and I had the pleasure of watching the Stage 2, Stage 3 and Boys Dance Groups perform at Glen Street Theatre as a part of the Sydney North Dance Festival. Mrs Wasson was very impressed with the Stage 2 Dance Group’s performance. I was lucky to be able to attend the later performance and watched with great delight our Stage 3 and Boys Dance Groups perform. Congratulations to everyone involved and from what I have heard their performances on Sunday were just as fantastic.
Pizza Lunch
This Thursday I will be holding a Pizza Lunch for the students who have earned their third Principal’s Award. Students eligible for this celebration will receive their invitation today. The Pizza Lunch is this Thursday and will be held in the library. Congratulations to those students who will be attending for the great effort and work they have demonstrated over a long period of time.
Carpet Installation
Over the next two weeks all permanent classrooms within the school will be having new carpet installed. Whilst this work is taking place, parts of the school will be closed to allow the contractors to do their work safely. The work this week will see some classes relocated to another room for part of the day whilst work takes place in their classroom. Please note that the school and the contractors have been able to schedule the works to minimise the impacts to classes as much as possible. The works will not impact BASC and their before and after school programs or upcoming Vacation Care program.
BASC Building
Works for the newly, to be installed, BASC building will begin during the holidays to avoid disruption to school operations. During the holidays contractors will look to bring a range of services (water, power, data etc) to the area where the new building will be installed. Any works that are carried out will be enclosed by temporary fencing. At this point the installation for the new building is scheduled for August some time. This new building will be a great asset for the community as the number of families within our community requiring the services of BASC is growing. We acknowledge that there will be some disruption during this process, and we will keep you informed along the way. When major deliveries for this project are expected, the community can expect to receive an SZapp message making them aware to ensure the safety of our community.
Vacation Period
On behalf of the staff at Pennant Hills PS I would like to wish all our families a safe and happy vacation period. We hope that you are able to enjoy the time with family and friends. Safe travels to those that are lucky enough to be travelling and we look forward to seeing you next term. Staff return to school on Monday 17 July and students return to school on Tuesday 18 July.
Thank You
Since I informed the community of my Leave for Term 3, I have been overwhelmed with so many well wishes. Thank you for your support! Mrs Wasson and Mrs Griffith will do a fabulous job leading the school in my absence. Their professionalism and dedication to the school is second-to-none. The community is in good hands.
Kind Regards
Matt Pinchbeck
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
As Mr Pinchbeck has outlined, we felt very lucky to see the Sydney North Dance Festival on Thursday Night. Pennant Hills Public School were a definite highlight of the performances! Thank you to Mr Arnold for his choreography and to Miss Griggs, Ms Erdmanis, Miss Maitland and Miss Dy for all of their work for the students and taking time out of their lives to support the PHPS Dance Groups.
Kindergarten Social Skills Program
Mrs Holdway, Mrs Donoghue and Mrs Wright have begun a social skills program for our Kindergarten students aimed at cooperation and teamwork. Look at how well they are working together and how proud they are of their creations!
Music Camp
Last week saw many of our 3-6 students attend Music Camp over the weekend, Monday and Tuesday. From all accounts they had a wonderful time! When I checked in with them at assembly on Wednesday, they were all very tired (as were the attending teachers!) but also content. The students who stayed at school participated in a range of interesting activities on a rotational basis and the feedback from these rotations was very positive as well. What a fabulous week!
Today our K-2 students are participating in a sports day! They are so excited! Our Sports Day begins at 11:30 with sprints, hurdles, hoops and skipping races, followed by a picnic lunch with the members of our community who can make it/ After lunch it’s onto the novelty activities on rotation, including; parachute, obstacles, juggling, sack races, bean bag toss, quoits and frisbee. They’re in for a fabulous day and the weather has put it on for us! Thank you to all of the K-2 teachers for pulling the event together under Mrs Buttrey’s leadership. Thank you to the Year 6 leaders who are helping run the novelty events and to all the parents/carers who are able to attend.
Spelling Bee
Today is also the day for our Spelling Bee. Good luck to all of the students who are representing their class in the competition – you will BEE fantastic! Thank you also to Mrs Schmidt for organising and running the event.
Our Movie Night is scheduled for Thursday night – very exciting! We look forward to seeing all of the students there. Please see further in the newsletter for more details.
Science Show
In Science Stage 3 are exploring the states of matter. To support their learning they participated in an incursion where they watched 1000 ping pong balls explode, hit covered in slime and created and launched rockets.

See your child’s teacher or the school’s PRC Coordinator for details. |
You can help your Year 1 and Year 2 child at home by: § comparing characters in texts and discussing similarities and differences § discussing different cultures that are represented in literature § engaging with the same narrative in different ways § discussing how particular events in texts make you feel and why § encouraging and supporting your child to participate in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge which runs each year from March to September. During Education Week, the library will be open on both Showcase afternoons – Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a range of new books on display that can be donated to the library for just $5.00. All donated books will have a bookplate placed inside to acknowledge the student who has made the donation, and of course they then have the privilege of being the first person to borrow that book. This is a great way to give back to our wonderful school and the students really enjoy seeing their names inside the donated books.
