Science Night – Big Science, Big Fun 2
It’s National Science Week and that can only mean 1 (or 2) things – the Big Science, Big Fun (2) Show is on this evening! We look forward to seeing you there. Session times are 4:30pm and 6pm and run for 1 hour. Please arrive promptly as the show must go on!
Green and Gold – In support of the Matilda’s
To show our support for the Matilda’s, students and staff are encouraged to wear green or gold tomorrow (Wednesday) to show our support for their semi-final game tomorrow night. Go the ‘Tilda’s!
NAIDOC Incursion
We were so lucky to have Ryka and his sister engage us in their amazing performances on Friday! Everyone had an opportunity to participate, we all learnt and laughed a lot. Thank you to Mrs Mortimer and Ms Stevens for organising the incursion, to all of our students who displayed our school values and our teachers who also put their hands up to get amongst it.

Last Pizza Lunch
Thursday last week saw the last Principal’s pizza lunch within our old reward system. It was such an amazing turn out! Well done to all of our students, it was a pleasure spending lunch time with you!
Thank you to the community members who were able to provide feedback around our Open Classroom afternoons during Education Week.
Due to the feedback received, we will continue to hold Open Classrooms over 2 afternoons, one for K-2 and one for 3-6.
Art Show – In The Making
Classes are working really hard on their Art Show displays, we can’t wait to show them off to you on Saturday 9 September! We have some wonderful volunteers from our community who are working with some of the classes – thank you for giving up your time to enhance this experience for our students. Below are some photos of 4P getting creative.

BASC Building
You may have noticed that the new BASC building is well underway on the K-2 site. Not long now until it will be a useable space. The students on K-2 have been very good at avoiding the area and finding other ways to play. The playground space around the new BASC building will be returned to us shortly – I know there are many socceroos/Matilda’s in the making who are keen to get spread their wings!

Festival of Choral Music - Argyle Concert
Stage 3
What a wonderful evening to be fortunate enough to take the Stage 3 choir students to the Festival of Choral Music, Argyle concert at the Sydney Opera House last night. The festival has been running since 1947, this is the longest running music education activity for students and teachers associated with public education in NSW. The students performed in a massed choir of 800 students, what an experience! Thank you to Miss Nelson for accompanying our 30 choir students and myself to the event. Well done to all.
Chance and Probability - 6S
Combining their learning in ‘chance and probability’ and their love for the Matilda’s in the FIFA Soccer World Cup, 6S students designed a simulation to investigate the chance of successfully scoring in a penalty shoot out.
Kind Regards

STAGE 2
STAGE 3
Stage 3 Interschool Sport Coordinators
Ten Pin Bowling Competition
Yesterday, 4 of our students represented PHPS in a Ten Pin Bowling Competition at Strike Bowling, Macquarie Centre.
This was an inter-school competition coordinated by Inclusive School Sport. The students representing our school were:
Josh F of 5W, Aliya A of 3E, Tommy T of 6G & Leonardo D of 34S
This competition is an excellent opportunity for these students to experience the fun and excitement of participating in competitive sport and Ten Pin Bowling is an excellent sport for students with disability, as the game can be adapted to utilise lane bumpers and ramps, ensuring the game is inclusive of all.
What a GREAT time they had!!
Each student enjoyed 2 games of bowling & we find out if we progress through to the next round shortly!

Countdown to Book Week!
Every year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through its annual Book Week and Book of the Year awards. The aim of Book Week is to highlight the importance of reading. During this time schools, libraries, bookshops, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature. This year, the theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire”.
To celebrate this event, we will be holding a Book Character Parade next week on Thursday 24 August. On this day we are asking the students to come dressed as their favourite book character for this special fun filled parade. There have been discussions during library lessons to help students with ideas for their costumes and it has been wonderful hearing about the book characters some students have already chosen for this fun event. There are plenty of ideas on Pinterest and Google and below are some photos from last year’s parade.
Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be held on the K-2 site at 10.30 am.
We look forward to celebrating this literary event and seeing amazing book characters.

Teddy has had his first proper day at school today- what a hit!
This morning, he greeted students at the back gate in a Wagging Welcome.
He met students at recess where they practised ‘PAT PET PAUSE’.
Lunch time saw Story Time with Teddy when we read ‘Kindness Grows’ by Britta Treckentrup, and then another pat and walk session with the students.
It has been a big proper first day! I think he will sleep well tonight. ?
The students are very happy to see Teddy and are enjoying more pats as he becomes accustomed to being at school.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments- such as: allergies or fearful of dogs or love dogs or absolutely anything else- about Teddy being at school, please contact me via email or call the school on 9484 1134.
Please also note that although we may be having Teddy at school, unfortunately all other dogs and animals are not allowed.

I will be away from the canteen for a few weeks.
Claire Phillips will be looking after things while I’m not there.
If you need to contact the canteen please either send an email to “canteenphps@gmail.com”, or, call or text Claire on: 0403 810 391.
Please note that we usually only check emails at the beginning and end of the day. If you are making contact about an order for that day, please do so on the phone.
Friday Specials are on hold for a little while but we hope to bring them back in the near future.
We would really like to be able to offer over the counter sales at lunchtime everyday at 3-6, and at least 3 days each week at K-2. We need volunteers to be able to do this. It would only be from 1-1.45pm. Please contact Claire if you would like to help. It’s quite fun!!
All helpers for the canteen need a current “Working With Children Check” which is easily obtained through Service NSW, and is free.

Link to the rosters is here:
http://www.phpspandc.org.au/band/band-roster/
Instruction on how to fill in the new Framedate roster is also on that page. Use a green tick for yes, and an orange tick to be a backup. (Don't use the red X as it just confuses people).
If anyone tries and fails to edit your line of helping dates in the framadate roaster link, it seems to be a quirk of the software. Easiest way around is to just use a slightly different name. ie YourName, then YourName-2, YourName-3 etc, to add a new line for new helping dates.
