Farewell and Performance Assembly
We look forward to seeing you then!
Book Character Parade
We had the most wonderful Book Character Parade to celebrate Book Week last week! Thank you to all of the families who went to such an effort, supporting the students in their fabulous costumes and having discussions around quality, rich literature! Our staff got amongst it too – can you guess who they all were? Thank you to Ms Davis for her organisation, Mr Arnold for being DJ and Mrs Mackay for the setup and playlist creation.
You all looked amazing students; it is delightful to see such a love of literature exposed!

Father’s Day Breakfast
Please come along to our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday morning. We would love to celebrate this day with all of the special Dads, Grandads and special male figures in our students' lives. We look forward to seeing you there!
There are more details about the breakfast further along in the newsletter.

Jeans for Geans Day
1 in 20 kids face a birth defect or genetic disease
Kids just want to be kids, but instead of playing sports with their friends or catching butterflies on a sunny day, kids with genetic diseases are getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their next dose of chemotherapy. It shouldn’t be this way. By donating through Jeans for Genes, Pennant Hills students help the scientists at Children’s Medical research Institute find cures, so these kids can go back to being kids. We raised approximately $500, well done PHPS students.

STAGE 3
Stage 3 Interschool Sport Coordinators
Last Thursday, our school was a hive of creativity as students were inspired to come dressed as their favourite book character. The students are to be congratulated for participating in this Book Week celebration and it was amazing seeing such a range of book characters walking around our school from the Minecraft Zombie to Sweetie May.
The parade was enjoyed by everyone, and such enthusiasm highlighted the joy that reading brings to our students.

PHPS String Ensemble

Clarinet (& Bass Clarinet)
The clarinet is the smallest of the reed based instruments. Whilst most children in grade 3 or above should have no issue with handling the clarinet, there are certain characteristics which may make it unsuitable for certain students. Because sounds are changed by covering holes with the fingertips, some students with very small fingertips may not be able to fully cover these holes.
The clarinet does use reeds to make the sounds. These are a “consumable” item, and they are quite fragile and prone to be easily damaged by young students. If they are chipped or cracked they will need to be replaced. A packet of 3 clarinet reeds is approximately $11-15.
The band program have clarinets for hire, or hire-to-buy, or a new reputable brand student model clarinet to purchase will cost around $700-900.The bass clarinet is the bigger brother to the clarinet. It produces a lower sound, and is suitable for taller or older students due to its size. (https://youtu.be/i0uZj-x3p5s) The band program has a couple of these available for hire, but a new one will set you back at least $2800.
Link to the rosters is here:
http://www.phpspandc.org.au/band/band-roster/
Instruction on how to fill in the new Framedate roster is also on that page. Use a green tick for yes, and an orange tick to be a backup. (Don't use the red X as it just confuses people).
If unable to edit your line of helping dates in the framadate roaster link please just create a new entry with a slightly different name. ie YourName, then YourName-2, YourName-3 etc, to add a new line for new helping dates.
