PHPS is celebrating NAIDOC Week this week! The official celebratory week was during the school holidays. NAIDOC Week is a week of focus on the celebration and recognition of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. We are lucky enough to have Ryka Ali performing on Friday, who is a previous winner of the Young, Black and Deadly Talent Quest.
Minimising The Risk Of Exposure To Allergens
Families, we are seeking your help! Please discuss with your children the importance of not sharing food at school. We have students on site who are anaphylactic to an array of allergens and as a life-threatening risk, it is asked that firstly students avoid bringing in nuts and nut products, do not share food and parents/carers only provide food to their own children. As much as you may feel like sharing food with your child’s friends, it is not only a major health risk, you also may not know the family impacts of this. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Science Community Night – Big Science, Big Show
*Please note – this is a seated performance, not a hands-on experience
Education Week – Last Week
What a wonderful week we had celebrating Education Week! With many families attending the Open Classrooms, the Walkathon a big success and over 320 book donations, I think we can put it down to a successful week! Thank you to our families for being so invested in your children’s education and taking the time to allow them to share their work and learning spaces proudly with you. Thank you also to our amazing staff who always go above and beyond and ensure that their learning spaces are beautiful and welcoming, taking time out of their personal lives to welcome you into the space. And thank you to our hard working students for taking pride in their work and their learning environment.
Tinker Shed
This term we aim to trial a tinker shed during some lunchtimes on the 3-6 site. We are currently waiting for the shed to be delivered. In the meantime, we would like to start collecting items that would be of use to the tinker shed. If you have any screwdriver or wrench sets, screws, hammers, nails, pliers, measuring tapes, spirit levels or even an old laptop (wiped), DVD players, clocks, fans or anything else you think might be of interest to pull apart and put back together – please email the school – pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the title Tinker Shed. Please note that we will not be accepting all donations as we are limited in our space.
If you are interested and available to work with some of our eager students during lunchtimes at the tinker shed, please also email the school and let me know your availability – we would love to have you on board!
Kind Regards
Kate Wasson

We are excited to announce that our school will be transitioning to an upgraded School Bytes finance system very soon.
In preparation for the transition to a simplified finance system for both you and the school, we will be required to implement a short payment lockout period where we will not be able to receive any online payments.
What this means for you
- No payments can be made online for now
- We will advise you when payments can resume
- Any existing payment links that have been sent to you previously in emails can still be used after the transition and will automatically redirect to the new system
- After the transition, a School Bytes portal will be available for you to register and being using (Link: https://portal.schoolbytes.education)
- All previous payments made will be migrated to the new School Bytes finance system portal

To celebrate Book Week our school will be holding a Book Character Parade on Thursday 24 August. On this day, we are asking the students to come dressed as their favourite book character for this special fun filled parade. The costumes do not need to be elaborate, or store purchased, simply finding things from home to put a costume together is very appropriate.
There have been discussions during library lessons to help students with ideas for their costumes and it has been wonderful hearing about the book characters some students have already chosen for this fun event. There are plenty of ideas on Pinterest and Google and below are some photos from last year’s parade.

Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be held on the K-2 site at 10.30 am.
We look forward to celebrating this literary event and seeing amazing book characters.
Library Book Donations
A huge thank you to all those families who visited the library last week during the Open Classroom afternoons and donated a book. It was wonderful seeing so many families and your support for the library is very much appreciated.
Overall, 322 books were donated which is absolutely fantastic. Bookplates, that acknowledge the students’ donations, are now being typed and placed in the books. Once this is completed the students will then be able to borrow their donated book.
Thank you for supporting our school library.

Last Wednesday, at the 3-6 assembly, the students & staff watched & listened to a presentation about how to interact safely with Teddy. Apart from watching a video on dog safety, we also had a visit from our very own life size frug, Mrs Wasson!
To top it all off, Teddy made his very first visit to PHPS & the 3-6 students got to meet him!!
CONGRATULATIONS to Calvin S of 4/5B
Calvin competed in the Junior Premier’s Spelling Bee Final, against 26 other schools spread widely across New South Wales from as far afield as Tocumwal PS near the border to Victoria, Wee Waa PS near Queensland to Glebe PS in the Inner City of Sydney.
Calvin was calm & composed & competed amazingly well against some truly tough competition.
He finished in 7th place! What an AMAZING result!
Please join me in congratulating Calvin on his wonderful achievement
CONGRATULATIONS to Liviru L of 6G
Liviru competed in the Senior Premier’s Spelling Bee Final, against 26 other schools ranging from Gundaroo PS near Canberra to Tamworth PS to our Southwestern Sydney neighbour, Bradbury PS.
Liviru demonstrated excellent spelling prowess making it through to the unseen words list, as he was faced with words such as: disdain, antithesis, cantankerous, gourmet, intonation, triptych, waive, entrepreneur & promontory.
Up against skilled competition, Liviru finished in 3rd place! An OUTSTANDING result!
Please join me in congratulating Liviru on his stellar achievement.

Unfortunately this year we didn't come away with a place, but the band played better than they ever had before. Mr Odams heard all the bands and there were some good bands in the section. Some played slightly easier music than ours, but played it well. We got loads of great feedback from the adjudicator about what we do well. We did really well on style, pitch and "energy", and in Mr Odams opinion probably deserved 3rd place or a Highly Commended. There was only 4 points between us and 1st place though, so it was VERY close.
A massive thank-you to Mrs Holdway for being our school chaperone, and to the parents who helped with transportation. We could not have done this without you.
Training Band were awarded a Silver award, Intermediate Band a Silver award, and Senior Band were awarded a Gold.
- TB there's still one spot in Week 10
- ICB we need someone for Week 6
- SCB still has lots of spaces open from Week 5 onward

Instruction on how to fill in the new Framedate roster is also on that page. Use a green tick for yes, and an orange tick to be a backup. (Don't use the red X as it just confuses people).
Please make sure you put in the first name plus at least your last initial. We have a number of parents who share the same first name so it makes it hard to distinguish without the additional details.
