We are so proud of all of our students, it can be difficult to write about 570 students as a whole, but I truly believe that the students at PHPS really do give things a go and give it their all. Well done PHPS!
100 days of Kindergarten
Last week saw our Kindergarten students attend for 100 days! What a wonderful day they had! Thank you to all of the families who were able to attend the picnic lunch, lots of fun was had playing games on the top oval! Thank you also to our Kindergarten teachers and small group teachers, your students have come such a long way in 100 days, on account of your hard work and dedication to each and every one of the students in your class/group. A big thank you to all of our families for the continued support of the educational and social outcomes of your children. Many nights reading, counting, talking through social situations, not to mention creating costumes! Our partnership is what creates this wonderful school community.
NAIDOC Week
PHPS is celebrating NAIDOC week, next week (Week 4) as the official celebratory week was during the school holidays. NAIDOC week is a week of focus on the celebration and recognition of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. We are lucky enough to have Ryka Ali performing on Friday, who is a previous winner of the Young , Black and Deadly Talent Quest.
Science Community Night
Tinker Shed
This term we aim to trial a tinker shed during some lunchtimes on the 3-6 site. We are currently waiting for the shed to be delivered. In the meantime, we would like to start collecting items that would be of use to the tinker shed. If you have any screwdriver or wrench sets, screws, hammers, nails, pliers, measuring tapes, spirit levels or even an old laptop (wiped), DVD players, clocks, fans or anything else you think might be of interest to pull apart and put back together – please email the school – pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the title Tinker Shed. Please note that we will not be accepting all donations as we are limited in our space.
If you are interested and available to work with some of our eager students during lunchtimes at the tinker shed, please also email the school and let me know your availability – we would love to have you on board!
A MESSAGE FROM RELIEVING DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
100 Days of Kindergarten
Kindergarten has a lovely day last Thursday dressing up for 100 days of learning. They explored many different activities around the 100 theme. Lots of exciting smiles, laughter and learning.

Arts Alive Rehearsal
Well done to our Ms Stevens and our Arts Alive Choir for a great rehearsal last Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing them perform at the Opera House in September.
Boccia team
Thank you to Mrs Schmidt, Mrs Wright and parents for organizing and taking our students to the School Sport Unit, 2023 Boccia Primary State Final. The students had a wonderful time competing against students from all over NSW. Their final game against Albury North Public School was tough, but they didn’t give up and won 3-2. Making Pennant Hill Public School the overall state champions.
CONGRATULATIONS
Kind Regards,
Melissa Griffith

The library will be open during both Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, with a range of new books on display that can be donated for just $5.00.
All donated books will have a bookplate placed inside to acknowledge the student who has made the donation, and of course they then have the privilege of being the first person to borrow that book. This is a great way to give back to our wonderful school and the students really enjoy seeing their names inside the donated books.
The Walkathon is upon us! All students will be walking laps on the K-2 site to raise money to go towards resources for our school.
We have some fantastic prizes on offer, so have a look below at what you could win!

INCLUSIVE SCHOOL SPORT – BOCCIA CHAMPIONS
Last Wednesday, 26th July, saw our multi-grade BOCCIA team, travel to Sydney Olympic Park to compete in the BOCCIA State championships.
The aim of the tournament is to provide opportunities for students with disability to participate in sport as the game is adapted to ensure the competition is inclusive of all.
Over 100 schools competed- some from as far afield as Broken Hill & Tamworth to Albury & Wauchope- across the duration of the competition, all for the pride of representing their school & the opportunity to play a new game & have some fun.
The PHPS BOCCIA team are amazing!
They helped, encouraged & supported each other. They showed true grit & resilience.
They demonstrated effort & sportsmanship at every turn.
To their surprise, they played and came 1st. They are the 2023 Boccia State Champions!
We are so enormously proud of them!
Please join me in offering

Countdown to Book Week!
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, our school will be celebrating Book Week by holding a Book Character Parade on Thursday 24 August. On this day we are asking the students to come dressed as their favourite book character for this special fun filled parade. There has been discussion during library lessons to help students with ideas for their costumes, with the suggestion that some students may like to use their creative talents and make a costume. The costumes do not need to be elaborate, or store purchased, simply finding things from home to put a costume together is very appropriate. There are plenty of ideas on Pinterest and Google if you need some inspiration. Below are some photos from last year’s parade.
Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be held on the K-2 site at 10.30 am.
We look forward to celebrating this literary event and seeing amazing book characters.

This week the library will be open on both Education Week showcase afternoons – Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a range of new books on display that can be donated to the library for just $5.00. Please note that only cash can be accepted on the day.
All donated books will have a bookplate placed inside to acknowledge the student who has made the donation, and of course they then have the privilege of being the first person to borrow that book. This is a great way to give back to our wonderful school and the students really enjoy seeing their names inside the donated books.
I look forward to seeing you!

Teddy is a fawn Frug puppy and hopefully he will be joining the PHPS family. Teddy lives with Ms Schmidt & her daughter & his sister, Astrid.
Before he can visit us at school, staff & students will receive some training on how to interact appropriately with Teddy- & other dogs too- for when he might come to school.
The students will be shown:
- How to approach Teddy slowly and calmly- not to run or rush over to him or get inside his space
- that they must ask the adult who is holding Teddy on his lead if they are allowed to pat him
- the correct way to pat him, if they have been given permission to do so. They will be taught ‘Pat, Pet, Pause’
A professional dog trainer will visit to assess Teddy’s suitability physically, psychologically & behaviourally for school. Together, we will discuss what Teddy’s school visits could look like.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments- such as: allergies or fearful of dogs or love dogs or absolutely anything else- about Teddy being at school, please contact me via email or call the school on 9484 1134.
Please also note that although we may be having Teddy at school, unfortunately all other dogs and animals are not allowed.
THE OFFICE IS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR A BABY GATE FOR TEDDY. IF YOU HAVE ONE THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DONATE, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH THE OFFICE. THANK YOU!

Parent Rosters for Term 3
TB there's still one spot in week 10.
Link to the rosters is here:

Instruction on how to fill in the new Framedate roster is also on that page. Use a green tick for yes, and an orange tick to be a backup. (Don't use the red X as it just confuses people).
Please make sure you put in the first name plus at least your last initial. We have a number of parents who share the same first name so it makes it hard to distinguish without the additional details.
