Athletics Carnival
It’s athletics carnival day! And although the track may be a little damp due to the rain yesterday, we are all very eager to be outside and active. Many of our Year 2 students are joining 3-6 this year, which demonstrates their commitment to physical activity. We hope many of our families are able to come along and watch at some point throughout the day and we look forward to seeing you there! Thank you to Mr Bryant, Ms Nelson and Mrs McLaren for all of their organisation for the day.

In the 20+ years Mr Bryant has been teaching at PHPS, this is the first year he has handed the starting gun over. What a privilege Miss Nelson!
Next Week (Week 3) marks Education Week with this year’s theme – 175 years of public education in NSW. As always, PHPS are looking forward to celebrating Education Week with you! Please see below for an outline of the events happening during the week;
- Wednesday 2nd August – 3-6 open Classrooms - 3:30-5pm
- Thursday 3rd August – Walkathon + Picnic Lunch (K-2 site) – 1pm-3pm
- Thursday 3rd August – K-2 Open Classrooms 3:30-5pm
- Wednesday & Thursday – Book donations – library 3:30-5pm
Please see further along in the newsletter for more information. We hope you can make it!
Pizza Lunch
As we phase in our new rewards system, we will have our final Pizza Lunch on Thursday of Week 4 – please note this was previously Week 3, however, due to Education Week we are unable to run the Pizza Lunch in week 3. If your child has 3 small Principal Awards to trade in for a Pizza lunch, please ensure they are brought to school THIS WEEK. Any awards brought in after Friday will not contribute to a pizza lunch. Thank you for your support with this.
Science Community Night
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3 and 5 sat the NAPLAN assessments in March. We have now received the individual student reports and additional student reports. These will be distributed to students this week.
The reports look different this year with proficiency levels rather than bands. Information on interpreting the ne reports can be found on this clip and is also supplied in the letter that will be sent home.
A preliminary look at the data shows that our students have done very well as a whole. We are very proud of the hard work our students and teachers put into their schooling and these initial results are credit to them.
In September, the school will receive further data around comparisons with similar schools and the state and once this data is released, I will share it with the community.
As always, if you have any questions regarding your child’s education, the first point of contact is the classroom teacher through the school email address.
Tinker Shed
This term we aim to trial a tinker shed during some lunchtimes on the 3-6 site. We are currently waiting for the shed to be delivered. In the meantime, we would like to start collecting items that would be of use to the tinker shed. If you have any screwdriver or wrench sets, screws, hammers, nails, pliers, measuring tapes, spirit levels or even an old laptop (wiped), DVD players, clocks, fans or anything else you think might be of interest to pull apart and put back together – please email the school – pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the title Tinker Shed. Please note that we will not be accepting all donations as we are limited in our space.
If you are interested and available to work with some of our eager students during lunchtimes at the tinker shed, please also email the school and let me know your availability – we would love to have you on board!
Kind Regards
Kate Wasson

Opportunity Class Placement Test in 2023 for entry to Year 5 in 2024
The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Thursday 27 July 2023 at 9.00 am at Pennant Hills High School.
The test will run from 9.00 am until 11.40 am. The test finish time may vary according to the size of the test centre and its facilities. If the test finishes early, students will be supervised. There is a short break between all tests. During the break, students remain seated or may go to the toilet.
Parents must take students to entrance of the test centre between 8:45–9:00 am. There is no supervision for students before 8.45am. Parents must return at 11:40 am to pick them up. Please do not be late to collect your child. If you arrange for your child to be collected by someone else or to walk to school or home, you must send a note with your child to the Chief Invigilator giving permission and accepting responsibility for your child’s safety.
What should students wear to the test?
Students should wear their school uniform, including a warm jumper. Students are allowed to wear a face mask and use hand sanitiser. The test invigilators will observe any hygiene requirements in place for NSW schools.
What should students take to the test?
Students must bring a printed copy of the ‘Test authority letter’ (available in your application dashboard) that shows their application number and their test centre.
- 2 2B Pencils
- An eraser
- A pencil sharpener
- A water bottle with no writing on it except for the brand name (kept under the seat)
- Students may bring a wristwatch that does not make a noise or calculate, connect, communicate or photograph but the test centre clock is the official timekeeper.
If students have been granted an adjustment for the test, they should bring their printed Reasonable adjustments letter and any items listed in it.
Please remind parents that their child must bring printed copies of the following to the test centre:
- the Test authority letter; and
- Reasonable adjustments letter (if applicable)
Parents need to log in to the application dashboard, download and print these document(s) in readiness for test day.
Stage 3 Choir Rehearsal
I was lucky enough to attend the Stage 3 festival of Coral Music rehearsal yesterday. All students were on their best behaviour and sang beautifully.
SRC Students 2023
Our 2023 SRC class representatives were given their badges last Wednesday at assembly. They continue to represent their classes at regular SRC meetings and run fundraising events each term. Congratulations.

We are excited to announce that our school will be transitioning to an upgraded School Bytes finance system very soon.
In preparation for the transition to a simplified finance system for both you and the school, we will be required to implement a short payment lockout period where we will not be able to receive any online payments.
What this means for you
- No payments can be made online for now
- We will advise you when payments can resume
- Any existing payment links that have been sent to you previously in emails can still be used after the transition and will automatically redirect to the new system
- After the transition, a School Bytes portal will be available for you to register and being using (Link: https://portal.schoolbytes.education)
- All previous payments made will be migrated to the new School Bytes finance system portal

A watch has been found and promptly handed in to the K-2 Office. If your child has misplaced a watch recently, please have them visit the K-2 Office to identify and claim their lost item.
We would like to draw your attention to the Lost Property collection located on the verandah outside the 1/2C classroom. If your child has misplaced any belongings recently, we urge you to visit the Lost Property area to check for their items.EDUCATION WEEK - SAVE THE DATE

During Education Week, the library will be open on both Showcase afternoons – Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a range of new books on display that can be donated to the library for just $5.00. All donated books will have a bookplate placed inside to acknowledge the student who has made the donation, and of course they then have the privilege of being the first person to borrow that book. This is a great way to give back to our wonderful school and the students really enjoy seeing their names inside the donated books.
I look forward to seeing you.

Book Week is coming!
Every year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through its annual Book Week and Book of the Year awards. The aim of Book Week is to highlight the importance of reading. During this time schools, libraries, bookshops, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature. This year, the theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire”.
To celebrate this event, we will be holding a Book Character Parade on Thursday 24 August. On this day we are asking the students to come dressed as their favourite book character for this special fun filled parade. There has been discussion during library lessons to help students with ideas for their costumes, with the suggestion that some students may like to use their creative talents and make a costume. The costumes do not need to be elaborate and there are plenty of ideas on Pinterest and Google if you need some inspiration. Below are some photos from last year’s parade.
Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be held on the K-2 site at 10.30 am.
We look forward to celebrating this literary event and seeing amazing book characters.

Parent Rosters for Term 3
Link to the rosters is here:
http://www.phpspandc.org.au/band/band-roster/
Instruction on how to fill in the new Framedate roster is also on that page. Use a green tick for yes, and an orange tick to be a backup. (Don't use the red X as it just confuses people).
Please make sure you put in the first name plus at least your last initial. We have a number of parents who share the same first name so it makes it hard to distinguish without the additional details.
