Department of Education’s Every Day Matters 2024 School Attendance Campaign
In 2024 the Department of Education and Pennant Hills Public School are focussing on promoting the benefits of regular school attendance for students.
Time with friends, assignments, an important math lesson or getting picked for a sports team – we don’t want any one of our students missing out. Days missed here and there add up.
With regular school attendance your child will have the best opportunity to learn and improve their wellbeing. We are here to support your child to be ready and engaged for school. Please contact us if you need any assistance with your child’s attendance.
Visit the Every Day Matters webpage for more information and resources. - https://education.nsw.gov.au/schooling/schooling-initiatives/every-day-matters
A reminder that planned travel should only be taken during school holidays and students should be at school every day during school term, right from beginning to end.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up. Every day matters and we are here to support all students in attending and engaging with their learning every day of the term.
What you can do…practical tips
Building positive attendance habits
You can help build positive attendance habits by:
- helping your child learn the importance of punctuality and routine
- making sure your child arrives on time from the start of the school day, ready to take part
- reducing disruption to learning where you can, by planning any necessary appointments outside of school time
- contacting the school to explain any absences (within 7 days of the first day of any absence)
- making sure any holidays or medical appointments are taken outside school hours
- working with us to encourage and support regular attendance
Harmony Week
This week is Harmony Week. Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This Thursday the school will celebrate Harmony Day. More information about this event can be found later in the Newsletter.

3/4R – Perimeter
3/4R have been investigating the concept of length through the perimeter of 2D shapes. A wonderful hands-on lesson, full of engagement!

Year 2 – Living Things (Science)
Year 2 are studying living things in science. Our current lessons are focusing on the life cycle of plants. Last week, we planted Bean seeds and a week later we are seeing growth! Its very exciting as we record our observations!

NAPLAN finishes
Today the majority of our students in Year 3 and Year 5 completed their last NAPLAN test – Numeracy. Students who were absent during the tests but have since returned will complete make-up tests. All students tried their best and we appreciate the support of our families in ensuring stress levels remained low. NAPLAN is just one source of information for us as a school, as always the classroom teacher is the best person to talk to about your child’s progress.
Thank you to the staff and students on the 3-6 site for accommodating the NAPLAN assessments.
Kind Regards
