The Anxiety Project
This year Pennant Hills Public School are starting on a 2-year journey to support students and their families in managing anxiety. Data shows that 81% of staff report that anxiety is a significant issue within their school. The Anxiety Project is an evidence based whole school community approach to managing anxiety and building resilience in primary school students. This project will be led by Mrs Mortimer and Ms Schmidt. It involves extensive staff training and provides opportunities for parent learning via workshops on managing anxiety in children. The end goal is that both school and home environment have a common approach and language to assist children with their concerns and worries. More information will be sent home throughout the year on this project.
Disco
Students had a wonderful time at last week’s disco. Thank you to Year 6 and their teachers for organising this fun event for students.
P&C AGM and newly elected 2024 Executive Committee
I would like to sincerely thank the P&C for their dedication to our school and students. Last week the AGM saw the 2023 Executive Committee step down from their roles and a new committee elected for 2024. Thank you to the exiting committee members, it is wonderful that many are staying on and continuing to serve our community in a different role.
The 2024 P&C Executive are:
President - Gareth Watkins
Vice Presidents - Luke Whenman and Mike Stalenburg
Treasurer - Eva Guo
Assistant Treasurer - Annette Berriman
Secretary - Matt Connor
Executive Committee Members - Elizabeth Fowler, Kate Ashton, Claire Smith, Andrew Passe de Silva
During the meeting the P&C committed $55 000 towards employing additional Learning and Support staff at school and money to fund the resourcing of the newly established STEAM Room. Both generous contributions will greatly benefit all students at PHPS. Thank you to the P&C and to our fabulous parent community who worked to raise these funds in 2023.
Warm Regards
Alison Filipic
Principal
Zone Swimming Carnival
I was lucky enough to attend the Zone Swimming Carnival with our amazing swimmers last Thursday. PHPS are very proud of you all, you gave it your best and swam your hearts out!
We came away with 2 ribbons, Emily H came 2nd in the 8yo girls 50m Freestyle and Josh F came 1st in the 13yo boys 50m Freestyle – an amazing effort!
Well done to all of our swimmers! Thank you to Miss Griggs for coordinating and marshalling on the day. Thank you to all of the families who stayed to cheer on the other Penno swimmers – the atmosphere was really positive.

Disco
Wednesday evening saw our school leaders organise the disco to raise funds for the Year 6 Farewell. All students were very well behaved and had a wonderful time! Thank you to Mrs McLaren, Mrs Partidge, Miss Ings and Miss Griggs for the organisation. Thank you also to the parents/carers for ensuring payments and permission were made and that the students arrived and departed on time. It was a great event!

NAPLAN
This term, students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake the NAPLAN assessment.
NAPLAN provides schools with valuable information about your child’s learning progress in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN is only one way we assess student learning in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March in 2024.
We ask that all students bring in a pair of over-the-head headphones, labelled with their name and class by Friday 8th March. The headphones require a standard headphone jack to plug into the laptops, similar to the picture shown.
Kind Regards
Kate Wasson
Deputy Principal

Gardens and Grounds Update
Help needed please!!!
Working Bee March 16th and 17th 10am-3pm
Next week we have the wonderful team of volunteers from Mirvac coming in to spend their annual community day helping us with our gardens. They will be coming on Thursday March 21st.
To prepare for their visit we need some school volunteers this weekend to help weed out the Greycliff garden beds.
We have set aside this Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th to ensure we can get the weeding done before they arrive to mulch the garden for us. We really need some folks to show up even if only for an hour between 10am-3pm. If we get it all done on Saturday we will let you know via the Whatsapp group below that the Sunday is canceled- so please join up.
Please bring (if you can):
- Garden forks (tall)
- Hand forks
- Trowels
- Buckets or plastic bins (even if they have a hole or two)
- Wheelbarrows
We have hired a skip bin so hopefully we can fill it on the weekend.
Don't forget your gloves, hats, sunscreen and water bottles either… perhaps raincoats too?!
Really hoping to see a bunch of your lovely faces there.
Cheers from the Gardens and Grounds Team
