Zone Athletics Carnival
Last Wednesday approximately 40 students represented our school at the Beecroft Zone PSSA Field Events carnival. They were all a credit to our school with their efforts and behaviour. Mrs Castro Gonzalez has listed the reults later in the newsletter of the student achievements and we are fortunate to have a few students progressing to the next level. This Wednesday sees the Track Events carnival for Beecroft Zone. Mrs Castro Gonzalez, Mr Byrant and myself will be attending the carnival in an official capacity on the day. Best of luck to those students competing and thank you to the many parents who attended on the day to support the students.
Science Week -Spectra
Mrs Macnaughtan arranged a spectacular display for Science Week. Students from PHPS displayed their Spectra projects in the hall between 11am-1:45pm for all students across the school to have a look. I know the students involved are very excited to be able to show their passion for Science to other students at the school. Mrs Macnaughtan has also arranged for students from Pennant Hills High School to come and display some of their Science work for our students. This promises to be a great day and I thank Mrs Macnaughtan for all her organisation and PHHS for supporting Science Week at PHPS.
Great Book Swap
Each year our school holds a ‘Great Book Swap’. This initiative comes from the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) and is a fundraiser to supply Indigenous students in remote communities with much needed resources. Having previously been on the Board of the ILF I know first-hand the amazing impact this simple initiative has on these communities. Thank you to Mrs Davis and Ms Campbell for their organisation, and to all the students who have brought in books or who are going to make a purchase.
Book Week Parade
Tomorrow is the student’s opportunity to dress up as their favourite super hero or book character. Reading is the door to learning and as such, it is important to embrace it and acknowledge the enjoyment reading can provide. We will be having a short ‘parade’ just after recess so please feel free to come along.
Disco
This Thursday’s Disco is one of the year 6 fundraising events for the year. The theme for the disco is the beach/Hawaiian, so come dressed accordingly. Many thanks to Mr Bryant and Mrs Griffith for their organisation of what promises to be a wonderful night. The money raised from the Year 6 events this year is going towards a mural on the brickwork outside the current Kindergarten rooms. The students are very excited about it and will be involved every step of the way.
Pennant Hills High School
As mentioned earlier in my section we are forming some very beneficial ties with Pennnant Hills High School. Students from the high school are coming down to support our Science Week and Spectra presentations, which is fantastic. Students from PHPS in years 1-6 will be visiting the high school to look at their Art Show this week. The artworks are created by students at the high school, with many of the artworks being submitted as part of the HSC process. On Friday stage 2 students will be attending the high school to be taught some new sports by year 10 students as part of their course work. Many thanks to Mr Ross Warren for supporting these initiatives, which are certainly beneficial to both schools.
Staff Update
Miss Anna Pinnuck starts at our wonderful school next Monday as a permanent teacher at our school. Miss Pinnuck was successful through the Merit selection process that I conducted last term. She is very excited to be working at our school and cannot wait to start. As you would be aware, Mrs Krivohlavy had a fall a little while ago and she has been advised that she will not be returning to work this term. Miss Pinnuck will fill in for Mrs Krivohlavy as the school’s EAL/D teacher in the meantime. When Miss Pinnuck starts next week she will spend her first few days getting to know the program and working with Mrs Judge, our other EAL/D teacher to ensure she best supports our students. I thank you in advance for your understanding with this situation. Unfortunately, like most schools in our area we are finding it challenging to find casuals for Sick Leave on a day-to-day basis.
Enrolment Policy
There has been some small changes to the Enrolment Policy for the NSW Department of Education. Please click the link below to assist you with these changes. If you have any questions about your personal circumstances please feel free to contact me to discuss your individual situation.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Teacher Professional Learning
As lifelong learners ourselves, we partake in professional learning on a weekly basis to ensure that we are equipped with the skills and most up-to-date knowledge of teaching practice. This is to ensure we are providing the best environments, opportunities and support to our students.
Last week we had the wonderful Eddie Woo with us for an extended twilight session. We were so inspired by his presentation and are taking this eager engagement to our classrooms. Thank you Eddie for sharing your expertise and thank you Mr Pinchbeck for organising such an inspiring evening.
Maker Night
Well, what a wonderful evening! I am so proud to have been a part of this annual event and to have witnessed the level of engagement of over 100 families, working together to create one of fourteen possible robots. We had so many in attendance that we had to create an ‘overflow’ room! The task at hand seemed overwhelming to start, but the kids and their families showed great resilience in working through to create a robot of their own. We hope you are enjoying your robot kits at home!
A special thank you to our expert helpers; Chris M, Brett G, Duncan M, Jahan M, Kiran M, Dayan M, Morgan W, Densie W and Damon M for your wonderful assistance throughout the evening. Chris K and the P & C for putting on the BBQ and to the staff; Ms Ashelford, Mr Thompson, Ms Stevens, Ms Parras, Mrs Coventry, Mrs Reid, Mrs Castro Gonzalez, Mr Bryant, Mrs Griffith and Mr Pinchbeck for taking time out of your lives and spending the evening with us.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson

The Great Book Swap
Once again, Pennant Hills Public School students displayed their generosity and enthusiasm to make today’s “Great Book Swap” an outstanding success. On both sites there was a real “swapping” buzz in the air as students meticulously browsed through a great range of books. If there are still books remaining on both sites at the end of the day students will be able to purchase books tomorrow.
Many thanks to all those students who donated a pre-loved book for the swap. This year our target is to raise $1000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). If you would like to support the event further, you can still make an online donation to the school’s fundraising page .
Many thanks for all the support that was provided to make this fundraising event for the ILF not only fun, but successful too. It is indeed a great way to celebrate Book Week.

Ethics classes at Pennant Hills Public School
Dear Parents and Carers,
Could you be an ethics teacher for our school?
We are always seeking volunteers to ensure we give our students the best possible Ethics experience.
Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and development of critical thinking skills and must be available on Wednesday mornings each week.
In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure.
Children discuss topic such as:
-imagining how others feel
-how do we treat living things?
-what is laziness?
-how do we disagree in a respectful way?
-fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au <and/or> contact Shelley Crowe on 0418 855 490 or shelley.ocallaghan@bigpond.com

The canteen menu is undergoing some changes. Some of these changes are in preparation of submitting the menu for approval by the Healthy Kids Association. Some are to make things easier for our wonderful volunteers, especially new ones. Some are because of lack of volunteers, and others are to try and reduce the amount of plastic we use. Please bear with us while we work to get it right.
Please remember to click on the PSSA ALERT when ordering if your stage 3 child does PSSA sport.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to our calls for help. We are very grateful for you all.
There are still some gaps in the roster, making those days quite frantic and stressful. If you have any spare time on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, and would like to help at either K-2 or 3-6, I would love to hear from you.
We had some free samples of warm APPLE CRUMBLE with CUSTARD on Friday at the primary canteen. It was a hit!! It will be available this Friday at recess for $1.50 (the portions will be bigger).
Thanks, Heather
