Welcome Back!
I can barely believe that we have begun Term 4. This term is always busy and as well it has an air of excitement surrounding it due to the time of year. Please keep up-to-date by checking the school’s weekly newsletter, notes, and notifications that are sent home. The school’s website is also a useful source of information.
During the holidays, the asphalt on the 3-6 site was replaced. The work is not yet fully complete. The line markings and basketball court will likely be completed in the upcoming holidays, as the asphalt needs time to cure before painting. The line markings and painting on the K-2 site has begun and we are currently negotiating a date to have the basketball/netball court painted.
The contract to upgrade the hall’s PA system has been awarded, and shortly I should receive the timeframe for the installation. Many thanks to the P&C for their support with this matter.
Selective High School 2021 Applications
Applications for a Selective High School in 2021 open in a few weeks. Further information about this process will be sent home by the school early in Term 4. I have included a link that will provide you with the necessary information about the process. Please keep in mind that this process is NOT conducted by the school, however, it is important you let us know that you have applied so that we can ensure your application proceeds.

Tell Them From Me survey
This year the school is again participating in the suite of surveys conducted by The Learning Bar called Tell Them From Me. At the end of last term I sent out a notification with a link for parents to complete a survey. I would encourage all parents to take the time to complete the survey to assist me with future planning.
Students in Years 4-6 will once again have the opportunity to share their thoughts. Most of these students completed Snapshot 1 earlier this year and will again have the opportunity to participate in Snapshot 2. A note will be sent home tomorrow for students containing information about the process. There is an option for you to opt your child out of the survey. Please only return the note if you DO NOT want your child to participate by this Friday.
Attendance
Student attendance at school is of the highest priority for many reasons. In accordance with Department of Education policy, schools and parents have responsibilities. Schools are required to monitor attendance to ensure all students are safe and learning. Parents also have a responsibility to notify the school of a child’s absence. Please ensure that when your child returns to school following an absence that you send a note to the teacher explaining their absence or use the SZ App to notify the school of your child’s absence. Thank you so much for your understanding with this matter.
2020 Planning
Planning for 2020 is well and truly underway. To assist with planning the following information is vital; if you intend on leaving Pennant Hills Public School and not returning for 2020 can you please email the school that information or you will be returning to Pennant Hills Public School but after the scheduled start date of 29 January 2020. This information is imperative so please let us know through writing to the school.
NSW Police Band Performance
Today the school was very privileged to have the NSW Police Band perform at our school and workshop with our Senior Band. Their concert was amazing. Thank you so much to Raelene Shepherd for her organisation of this event. The main purpose of today’s concert was to highlight the wonderful opportunities being a band member presents to the students during their schooling. With this in mind next Wednesday the Band committee will be holding a ‘Trial Night’ for any new prospective Band members.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back
I would like to reiterate Mr Pinchbeck’s remarks and welcome you all back to an exciting and busy term. Term 4 is full of teaching and learning opportunities, students really link concepts and make connections in their learning. Our teachers have returned refreshed and eager to drive a productive and engaging term. From my walks around the school the last 2 days, it appears students are also very eager and settled. We hope you had a wonderful break and enjoyed some family time.
2020 Kindergarten Enrolments
If your child is starting at Pennant Hills Public School in Kindergarten for 2020, this includes younger siblings of students already enrolled, please ensure the enrolment form and all supporting documentation is in as soon as possible. An enrolment checklist and the enrolment forms can be found on our school website;
https://pennanthil-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html
All documentation is to be returned to the Trebor Road site between 10am and 2pm.
We look forward to welcoming your child to our school.
Around our school
As Mr Pinchbeck has mentioned, the majority of the asphalting works have been completed on both sites. The line markings on the Trebor Rd site have already been a big hit with the students! The below photos were taken before school on Monday – happy Penno kids!
Police band visit
We had a wonderful visit from the police band today. The students were introduced to a variety of instruments, some that they recognised and some that were less familiar. If only I could add a video to the newsletter to show the enthusiasm from the students who sang and clapped along to the music - they truly loved it!
After the Police band played, our school band joined them and they all played together. How lucky Pennant Hills students are to have such opportunities. Well done!
Stage One bushwalk – Mrs Coventry
On Monday 23 September Stage 1 students went on a bushwalk through the Berowra Valley National Park. It was a beautiful day for a walk through our local bushland - an area that some students had never previously explored. Following the rain earlier in the week, the creek had quite a bit of water flow and the students enjoyed having to cross the creek several times, across stepping stones and bridges. We were able to identify many of our House namesakes (Banksia, Angophora, Melaleuca and Grevillea) as well as explore the varying landscape within the bush, such as caves , rainforest and scrub areas. We could see the effects of backburning and talked about why fire is important for the Australian bush. Lunch was enjoyed on the site of the old Pony Club before making our return journey to school. We are so lucky to have such natural beauty on our doorsteps! Thanks to all our parent helpers who were fabulous - the day couldn't have happened without them.
Thank you also to our amazing teachers for organising such wonderful opportunities for our students.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson

Scholastic Book Club orders – Issue 7.
Issue 7 catalogues will be distributed to the students this week. The closing date for online orders is Wednesday 23 October– 9 pm.
As was the case last year parents are now required to place their own orders online. Consequently, the school does not accept cash or cheque payments. Please note that this year there is just one school account “Pennant Hills Public School” where all the K-6 classes are listed.
If you wish to place an order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you haven’t already done so and then pay by credit card. After the closing date for that issue your order will be sent directly to the school and distributed.
How do I order?
- Go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website to register your details. You will need to enter your name, email address and a password. Click on “Add new child” and using the drop down menu locate our school and your child’s class. If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order just with one child to save time.
- Enter your child’s first name and their surname initial. Please note that Scholastic does not share student details with third parties or use this information for marketing purposes. This information is for distribution for when the order arrives at the school.
- Click on “ORDER“and enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue and follow the prompts to make payment by credit card.
- All orders are then processed after the closing date and delivered to the school to be distributed.
Please note there is no need to return a paper order form or payment receipts to the school.

Changes to the Summer Uniform
As approved by the P&C late last year there will be some changes made to the summer uniform effective Term 4 2019. The new girls’ embroidered summer shirts and culottes and the boys’ short sleeve embroidered shirts are now available. The existing girls’ summer dress remains unchanged, and the culottes and shirts will simply be an additional option for the girls. The boys’ summer shirts will now have the school crest embroidered on them, and as per Department of Education policy with any uniform change there is a phase in period. As such, the boys may continue to wear their unembroidered short sleeve shirts for three years and after that phase in period the embroidered short sleeve shirts will become compulsory.
Summer Uniform
All students are required to wear summer uniform in Term 4. In readiness for next term, all summer stock has arrived and is now available for sale. Orders can be placed for summer uniforms and the items will be delivered to your child’s class, or alternatively you may attend the shop during opening hours.
Please note that the girls summer shirts and culottes are both in stock and now available for sale to all families who placed an expression of interest order earlier this year.
On the 1st of November orders for the culottes and shirts will be opened up to all families who didn’t lodge an expression of interest.

If you have any uniforms in good condition that you no longer require please consider donating them to the Uniform Shop.
