Eddie Woo
This afternoon all staff are participating in a professional learning session conducted by Mr Eddie Woo. Eddie is a world-renowned teacher who came to prominence by creating WooTube channel to support one of his students who was sick and unable to attend school. Since this time Eddie has gone onto present to a range of audiences across the world. Eddie is very passionate about mathematics, and how it can be taught in schools to maximise student engagement and learning. We are all excited about this opportunity.
Zone Athletics Carnival
Good luck to our school representatives who are attending the Beecroft Zone Athletics Carnival tomorrow for 800m and Field Events. These competitors will be competing against other students from our Zone and we wish them the best of luck.
SchoolZine App
Only two more weeks to go until you will only receive the newsletter through our new format. To receive the new format please download the SZapp and search for Pennant Hills Public School. This app has some wonderful facilities; links to the school website, syncs with the school calendar, and you can submit absence notes – please ensure that you sign in the bottom text box when submitting an absence note.
‘SZapp’ can be downloaded onto your Android or iPhone. The link below details all the information you need regarding the set up and use of the App.
https://pennanthillsps.schoolzineplus.com/szapp
While the App is available as a convenience to you, it is not compulsory to download it; the newsletter will automatically be sent to your email address by default. If you do not receive an emailed newsletter from Schoolzine, please email the school office detailing your full name and preferred email address so that you can be added to the database.
Attendance
Attendance at school is compulsory, however, if your child is not feeling well, keeping them at home to recover from their illness is the best thing. We completely understand that this is inconvenient for working parents but school is not a place to recover from an illness. If your child is away from school you need to notify the school when they return as to the reason for their absence via a note addressed to your child’s teacher. If you believe that your child is going to be away from school for more than a few days please ring the office and let us know. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
Student Achievement
Congratulations to Mia H in Year 3 who has been selected to play Gretl in the upcoming production of “The Sound of Music” being presented by the Dural Musical Society. I am sure she will have a lot of fun in this role. If you are interested in seeing “The Sound of Music” please use the following address https://duralmusicalsociety.iwannaticket.com.au/event/the-sound-of-music-MTg5Mjg or visit the Dural Musical Society website.
Mrs Krivohlavy
As you may be aware Mrs Krivohlavy had a fall at home last week and suffered a dislocated and broken shoulder. Due to these injuries, she will not be at work for a little while. Her Parent Café sessions have been cancelled in the interim. We are currently trying to find a replacement for her teaching load and as soon as this process has been completed we will notify the community. She is in good spirits and recovering at home.
Student Toilets
Over the last few weeks I have noticed parents using the student toilets on both sites. These toilets are strictly for students or young children and are signed accordingly. If a parent or adult needs to use the toilet or take a toddler to the toilet please see the ladies in the office on either site and you can use the staff toilet. I thank you in advance for your understanding and consideration.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck

Maker Night
We are very excited for Maker Night on Wednesday! The robots have arrived and are ready to be assembled. Please bring a set of cutting pliers or scissors with you to ensure you are able to cut out all of the robotic parts. The P&C are running a BBQ on the evening, sausage sizzle for dinner!
Thank you to the parent helpers and teachers who are volunteering their time.
Arts Alive Choral Concert
What an experience! Ramsay choir students sang in the Opera House last Wednesday night in the Arts Alive Choral Concert. Congratulations to our students who sang so very beautifully and were delightfully behaved and were a credit to our school. Well done to our members of the Arts Alive Combined Schools Choir who were a featured item. Thank you to Mrs Ford and Ms Ashelford for looking after the students during the day and being part of the choir in the evening.
Special congratulations to our very own Ms Stevens who was one of the conductors for the massed choir! It was a very special experience conducting a choir of 700 children in the Opera House. Well done!
Stage One Walking Excursion
Stage One are building on their outdoor learning by going for a walk to a local park on Wednesday. A great time for discovery and discussion. This will complement their Science unit of work that is focused on investigating forces. What better way to investigate push and pull than by going to the park and playing on the equipment. Enjoy Stage One!
Jazz Band at Ryde Eisteddfod
Congratulations to our amazing Jazz band who received 1st Place at the Ryde Eisteddfod today! What an amazing achievement – well done! Thank you to Dave, the jazz band teacher for your efforts , Ms Newman for accompanying the students today and to the parents who volunteered to drive the students to and from the Ryde Eisteddfod; Olivia F, Judy W, Jenny N and Claire P. Without your commitment, the students would not be able to participate in such an event – thank you! Well done Jazz band students, we are very proud!
Kind Regards

“The Great Book Swap” – Tuesday 20 August
To celebrate this year’s Book Week theme “Reading is my secret power”, our school is supporting the work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) by holding a “Great Book Swap” next Tuesday.
The Great Book Swap is indeed a fantastic way to celebrate reading during Book Week and raise much needed funds for remote Indigenous communities. As the author, Andy Griffiths, who is also a lifetime ambassador for the ILF states:
“The Great Book Swap is a win-win. Not only does it help raise money to improve literacy levels in remote communities, but the excitement and fun that a book swap generates will help improve literacy levels in your community or organisation as well”.
So how does “The Great Book Swap” work?
- Prior to the “The Great Book Swap” the students bring in a book that they love but can bear to part with. Ms Davis and Mr Thompson will be collecting the books on the 3-6 site, and Ms Campbell and Miss Dwyer on the K-2 site.
- On the day (Tuesday 20 August) the students bring a gold coin for the right to choose a “new” book. It’s that easy!
Many thanks to those students who have already donated a pre-loved book for the swap. This year our target is to raise $1000 for the ILF and already $100 has been donated online. If you would like to support the event further, you can make an online donation to the school’s fundraising page in the lead up to the event.
Once again, many thanks for your support.

THE GREEN TEAM
Top tips on eating for the planet and saving you money
- Eat seasonally and locally as it often means your food has required less chemicals and pesticides to grow and has traveled less kilometers to get to your plate
- Eat less meat. If everyone reduced the amount of meat they ate, we
could save 26.7 gigatons of carbon from entering the atmosphere. Try Meat Free Monday and then add meat free friday.
- Eat what you buy and only buy what you will eat. If food waste were a country it would be the third highest carbon emitter (after the US and China). Eating leftovers for lunch, and using tired vegies in stir fries, soups and stews are a great start
- Use reusable produce bags and limit your purchasing of packaged food, particularly individually wrapped items, to reduce the amount of plastic going to landfill

Canteen
A big special thank you to Heather, Peta P, Vicki Q, Alicia C, Rohini M and the whole canteen committee and all the helpers who mostly go unnoticed and unrecognised but do a tremendous job all year round in the canteen. To keep all those daily orders going out plus organising and catering the special events, is no small task. Well done folks, we appreciate everything you do and thank you for all your efforts!
Canteen Helpers!
To everyone else who is connected to the school. If you can spare a couple of hours during a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and knows how to make a sandwich, please come and help out in the canteen. It’s not hard but so very rewarding and your kids will love seeing you there! There’s no special training or tricks, it’s as easy as making a sandwich at home, come and try it, guaranteed you’ll get hooked on the kids enthusiasm! Many hands make light work!

Please bear with us while we work to get it right.
Please remember to click on the PSSA ALERT when ordering if your stage 3 child does PSSA sport.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to our calls for help. We are very grateful for you all.
There are still some gaps in the roster, making those days quite frantic and stressful. If you have any spare time on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, and would like to help at either K-2 or 3-6, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you to the wonderful members of the Canteen Committee: Vicki, Alicia and Peta, for all of your work at, and leading up to the Walkathon. That was a lot of sushi!!
