Art show set up
The set up for our highly anticipated art show is in full swing. Thank you to the parents who have been, and continue to, volunteer their time to help with set up; Peta P, Brooke N and Chris L. A very big thank you to all of our teachers who have been thoughtfully teaching and preparing student artworks for months. We also have a wonderful team of teachers who are assisting in the set up of the art show, led by Mrs McLaren, they include Ms Campbell, Ms Ashelford, Mrs Coventry, Mrs Griffith and Ms Lee from our office. Ironing back drops, collecting display boards, positioning artworks, nailing, it doesn’t happen on its own. Without all of the assistance, the show simply wouldn’t run.
I am so excited to see all of the amazing artworks the students have created when the art show opens on the weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
Pennant Hills Public School Art Show
Open from 10am – 3pm Saturday 14 September
Uniforms
As of this week, students can opt to wear their full Summer or full Winter school uniform while the weather is sporadic. Please ensure that whatever uniform your child wears, that they are in full school uniform. This includes Pennant Hills Public School socks and jumpers. Black school shoes are the only accepted shoe unless it is a sport day for your child.
Regional Spelling Bee and Hills Public Speaking Finals
Congratulations to our amazing students, Gabi C, Allan Z, Zoe G and Oscar G, who competed in the Regional Spelling Bee yesterday at Hornsby North P.S.
Some fabulous results, with Gabi making it to Round 5, and Allan who progressed to the 'Unseen Words' round and finished in 7th place!
We also had a student from each grade 3-6 represent Pennant Hills Public School at the Hills Public Speaking finals today at Dural P.S.
Kirrily S (Year 5) and Josiah C (Year 6) delivered strong and engaging speeches. Alexis Q (Year 4) and Tahlia C (Year 3) both received highly commended awards.
Congratulations to our wonderful students, you have done Pennant Hills P.S. proud!
Physical activity
At Pennant Hills Public School we are aware and promote the positive implications of an active lifestyle. We are focusing on outdoor learning and ensure that our students receive quality physical activity sessions throughout the week. This term, students in 3-6 are taking part in Moving Bodies sessions as well as their own class and stage based sport sessions. Below you will see some of the skills of Stage 3 students during a Moving Bodies session and a picture of Stage 2 students improving their hand-eye coordination and team ethic during a ball skills session.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Yr 2 Swim School
Last week Year 2 students started the School Swimming and Water Safety program. As Australians, we spend a lot of time around water and it is therefore important for students to learn how to swim and be safe around water. The program is funded by the Department of Education, with parents paying only for transport costs.
The swimming program continues this week. Students are enjoying their experience and are working hard at improving their skills and knowledge. Thanks to all staff involved in coordinating and supporting our students in this important life skills program.
Stage 2 Excursion
Stage 2 students visited Kimbriki Waste Management centre last week on an
excursion related to their Science unit 'Wrap it Well'. The students did a tour of the waste recycling facilities, where they learnt about what can be recycled, and what goes into landfill. Students also learnt how to be ecologists, making a difference to world by reducing, reusing and recycling. They focused on how they can be sustainable by growing their own food, composting and worm farming.
Kindy History Visit
Yesterday afternoon Kindergarten were visited by some grandparents and parents who had attended Pennant Hills Public School in the past. The visitors spoke to students about changes that have taken place in the school and community over time. This was linked to Kindergarten’s History unit ‘Personal and Family Histories’. Thanks to our special visitors – Mr McKivat, Mrs Smith and Mrs Whenman for contributing to student’s learning.
Kind Regards
Mrs Melissa Coventry

A reminder that the closing date for Issue 6 online orders is tomorrow Wednesday 11 September. If you wish to place an order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you haven’t already done so and then pay by credit card. Please note that this year there is just one school account “Pennant Hills Public School” where all the K-6 classes are listed.
How do I order?

If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order just with one child to save time.

- Click on “ORDER“and enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue and follow the prompts to make payment by credit card.

K -2 Site
Wednesday 11th September – Rebecca D.
Thursday 12th September – Christine L.

3-6 Site

The canteen menu is undergoing some changes. Some of these changes are in preparation of submitting the menu for approval by the Healthy Kids Association. Some are to make things easier for our wonderful volunteers, especially new ones. Some are because of lack of volunteers, and others are to try and reduce the amount of plastic we use. Please bear with us while we work to get it right.
We have the new 3.5 HSR Paddle Pops in Chocolate, Choc/Caramel and Rainbow this week. You will find them on Flexischools. At this stage they are only available at the 3-6 canteen.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to our calls for help. We are very grateful for you all.
There are still some gaps in the roster, making those days quite frantic and stressful. If you have any spare time on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, and would like to help at either K-2 or 3-6, I would love to hear from you.
Pizza Day is coming up in week 9, on Wednesday 18th September. Ordering is now available through Flexischools. It is open until 10am on Tuesday 17th September. The pizzas will be from Dominos.
There will be no other lunch orders on that day.
If you are able to help pack the pizzas from 12-1pm, please get in touch.

Year 6 Shirts 2020
Year 5 parents please note that orders for the 2020 Year 6 shirts are due next Monday 16 September 2019.
Uniform Shop Storage
The introduction of multiple new stock lines in the last couple of years has seen the uniform shop reach storage capacity. The current storage layout is that ALL stock in each size is displayed and readily available for sale all year round. A cost-effective solution for our storage issues was discussed at our last committee meeting, and it was decided that the easiest and by far the cheapest solution was to pack away 2-3 stock lines in the off-season. In summer track pants, girls’ winter tunics and boys’ trousers will be put into storage and in winter the new girls’ culottes and shirts will be packed away into storage. This means that in the last few weeks of Term 3 some winter garments will not be available for sale and in the last few weeks of Term 1 some summer garments will not be available for sale.
Almost all summer stock has now arrived, and as such girls’ winter tunics, boys’ trousers and the sport track pants have been packed away into storage and will NOT be available for sale from this week and throughout the summer months.
Changes to the Summer Uniform
As approved by the P&C late last year there will be some changes made to the summer uniform effective Term 4 2019. The new girls’ embroidered summer shirts and culottes and the boys’ short sleeve embroidered shirts will arrive in the first week of September. The existing girls’ summer dress remains unchanged, and the culottes and shirts will simply be an additional option for the girls. The boys’ summer shirts will now have the school crest embroidered on them, and as per Department of Education policy with any uniform change there is a phase in period. As such, the boys may continue to wear their unembroidered short sleeve shirts for three years
and after that phase in period the embroidered
short sleeve shirts will become compulsory.
Summer Uniform
All students are required to wear summer uniform in Term 4. In readiness for next term, summer stock has arrived and is now available for sale. Orders can be placed for summer uniforms and the items will be delivered to your child’s class, or alternatively you may attend the shop during opening hours.
Please note that the girls summer shirt shipment has been delayed in China and will now not arrive for another two weeks. I apologise for this delay, but unfortunately the delay in shipment is beyond my control.
Ordering Uniforms
Uniforms can be ordered by attending the Uniform Shop during opening hours, or alternatively an order form can be completed and together with payment of cash, cheque or card details handed in at either office. Orders will be filled and then delivered to the children’s classes. A combined pricelist and order form can be downloaded from the school website by following the links to Our School and What We Offer. Uniforms can also be ordered online through Flexischools, however prices will include the Flexischools’ surcharge.
Please note that uniform orders cannot be paid via the school online payment service

2020 Enrolments for Before and After School Care
As we have just gone digital for our booking system, all 2020 enrolments will look a little different this year - but a whole lot easier with no paper forms to fill in.
We will have the 2020 enrolments open for the month of September with the aim to confirm all bookings by mid-October.
What to do?
You don’t need to do a thing if:
You want the same bookings as you have now for 2020? Don’t do a thing – all bookings will roll over.
You will need to use QikKids My Family Lounge:
- If you want to make changes for 2020 (perhaps add or delete bookings).
- If you have a new child (perhaps Kindergarten 2020) to add bookings for.
- If you are already registered? Head to this link and login: https://www.qkenhanced.com.au/webui/Account/LogOn
- If you are not set up? Head to this link:
- If you are having issues? Please email the team at:
Make sure to click on for 2020 when doing any of the above.
Not coming back?
Perhaps you are moving house, don’t need care or changing schools in 2020? Please email and let the centre know on info@pennanthillsbasc.org.au . This will help the centre plan for 2020.
Confirmations for 2020:
Enrolments for 2020 will be confirmed by mid-October.
Enrolling does not guarantee a place in the Centre but is merely to provide an indication of the numbers for next year.
Current financial members will be offered the same permanent sessions they hold at the time of re-enrolment provided their account is not in arrears.
Any requests for extra places will be wait-listed and prioritised as follows:
(1) Siblings commencing Kindergarten in 2020 for the same sessions as the older child/ren.
(2) Kindergarten 2020 new enrolments.
(3) Our 2019 wait-list.
(4) Extra sessions for current members in the order of date of request.
(5) Other new enrolments for 2020 (or late re-enrolments).
