Schools Spectacular
This week the much anticipated Schools Spectacular is on Friday and Saturday. Ms Stevens and the choir have been working all year for this wonderful opportunity. This week will see some intensive rehearsals on Wednesday – Friday with performances on Friday and Saturday. I encourage you to go and watch, even if you do not have a child involved. It is amazing to see what children from NSW Public Schools are capable of producing. The concert is simply, amazing! Tickets are available at http://www.schoolsspectacular.com.au/the-show/tickets/. Thanks to Ms Stevens, Mrs Griffith, Miss Pinnuck and Mrs Cox for giving up their time to support the students this week.
Kinderlinks
Today’s Kinderlinks was an absolute success with about 50 families represented at the Information Session. Thank you to all who attended today, we hope it was valuable for yourself as your child embarks on their learning journey. Please remember to arrive a little earlier next week (10:40am) to see your children performing for all the parents. I can guarantee this performance is not one to be missed.
Movember
Thank you to everyone who has supported my fundraising this month. I have included an up-to-date photo to prove I am still attempting to grow a ‘Mo’. Movember is an awareness campaign aimed at raising funds to tackle men’s health issues. I encourage you to have a chat with a mate to seeing how they are really going. So far I have raised $970, which is fantastic and I am very appreciative of the support I have received.
If you would like to donate you can do so at this address https://mobro.co/mattpinchbeck?mc=1. More importantly, ensure the males in the house look after themselves and take ownership of their learning.
Enjoy!
NAPLAN/2020 Teacher Professional Learning
On Tuesday 3 December at 6:30pm in the school hall Mrs Wasson and I will be presenting whole school NAPLAN data from this year and trends over the last few years. At this presentation we will also talk about the future professional learning for staff in 2020 and what this means for your children. I encourage you to attend this session if you are available. Due to the P&C having their December meeting starting at 7pm we will be happily discussing this up until 7pm. We intend on this session being interactive and are looking forward to seeing you there. Please feel free to hang around after 7pm to celebrate with the P&C the year’s achievements.
Children’s Birthdays
At school we know how important it is to celebrate a child’s birthday as it brings much joy to many children. Can I please ask that if your child is having a birthday that you adhere to the following; all cakes (must be pre-cut) and cupcakes are provided with a list of ingredients and of a small size, lolly bags are discouraged as some bags are simply containing too many lollies for teachers to check their suitability for all students with allergies. Ice blokes can also be a great idea, especially as the weather warms up. Please have a chat with your child’s teacher if you have any queries.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
P&C BBQ
Thank you to our amazing P&C for putting on a fabulous BBQ on Friday afternoon and evening. What a welcoming, warm and wonderful community we are lucky to be a part of here at Pennant Hills. It was great to see so many families, siblings young and old and teachers at the event. Everyone enjoyed their sausage and drink – thank you again P&C!
Class visits
3R – A lot of interesting things were happening in 3R this week. I got to see Alex conduct his ‘My Place’ presentation, whereby students researched a character from the text ‘My Place’ and they were provided a rubric to create a digital presentation that was accompanied by a speech. I was also very impressed by the supportive and constructive feedback that was being provided by his peers and Mrs Reid, the focus was on slight modifications for improvement and a big congratulations on focusing on your previous areas of improvement Alex, a move away from palm cards is a big step! 3R then continued with their literacy rotations. Everyone was very engaged in their learning and could tell me exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it. Some great higher order thinking activities and the use of the SeeSaw app during the lesson. Thank you for having me 3R!

Mathematics survey
Over the last two weeks I have been conducting surveys with our students in years 1 to 6. It is important that the students have a voice, particularly when it comes to their education here at Pennant Hills Public School. It was a brief survey asking about their views towards how mathematics is taught here and how it could be improved. I am looking forward to analysing this data to make positive improvements in our delivery of curriculum. Thank you students for being so engaged when providing your feedback, your opinions do make a difference!
Performances
Students from Pennant Hills Public School are proudly performing at the Schools Spectacular this year. There are many rehearsals this week, ready for the upcoming performances. Mr Pinchbeck and I are really looking forward to seeing ‘School Spec’ on Friday night!
A huge thank you to Ms Stevens who is not only accompanying the students to all of their rehearsals and performances, but conducting as well! Thank you also to Mrs Griffith, Mrs Cox and Ms Newman who are also accompanying the students at varying times.
The Greycliffe choir are also performing at the Danish Christmas Market this Saturday. Good luck students, no doubt you will sing beautifully. Thank you Miss Pinnuck for accompanying the students on a Saturday.
Thank you teachers for taking time out of your personal lives to ensure our students participate in these types of extra-curricular activities.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson

Scholastic Book Club orders – Issue 8
A reminder that the closing date for Issue 8 online orders is tomorrow Wednesday 20 November and will be the last issue for this year. If you wish to place an order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you haven’t already done so and then pay by credit card. Please note that this year there is just one school account “Pennant Hills Public School” where all the K-6 classes are listed.
How do I order?
- Go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website to register your details. You will need to enter your name, email address and a password. Click on “Add new child” and using the drop down menu locate our school and your child’s class. If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order just with one child to save time.
- Enter your child’s first name and their surname initial. Please note that Scholastic does not share student details with third parties or use this information for marketing purposes. This information is for distribution for when the order arrives at the school.
- Click on “ORDER“and enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue and follow the prompts to make payment by credit card.
- All orders are then processed after the closing date and delivered to the school to be distributed.
Please note there is no need to return a paper order form or payment receipts to the school.

Stage 3 Softball
Well done to the Stage 3 Boys Softball team who played in last Friday's PSSA Grand Final. The boys competed in a fine manner but came up against a very strong West Pennant Hills team. Congratulations on being runners-up in 2019!

P&C END OF YEAR BBQ
It was lovely to once again see so many familiar faces, (and some new ones!) at last Friday’s end-of-year BBQ. Thanks also to Matt P, Kate W and the many teachers who came along, and to Cal W for organising activities for the kids! And a big thank you to the P&C executive team who again worked hard behind the scenes to bring this event together.

CLASS PARENT AFTERNOON TEA
Thanks to the Class Parents who came along to the afternoon tea to celebrate their dedication and efforts this year in this very special role. Without Class Parents our school life would be much more stressful and disorganised, they are a vital link between the school, P&C and families. We are very grateful for your commitment to sending weekly emails and updates despite your busy and demanding lives. Classes please also show your thanks to your class parents this term, they really deserve it!
Mr Pinchbeck and Mrs Griffiths, your presence at the afternoon tea was also much appreciated.

THE GREEN TEAM
This week we want to celebrate Heather, our Canteen Manager. Heather is not only a great cook and lover of Pusheen, she is also a keen waste warrior!
Heather has introduced a food waste stream in the kitchen. She collects food scraps which all get composted at the 3-6 site. These scraps turn into fertiliser for the school’s vegetable gardens where Heather has been sourcing cherry tomatoes for the kid’s snack packs. The circle is complete.
Not only that, but Heather has introduced a soft plastic and hard plastic recycling stream.
All of these efforts look like they have halved the amount of waste going from the canteen to landfill.
Amazing work Heather!
Contact the Green Team or Hornsby Council if you want to set up something similar at home. And think about volunteering at the canteen too.

Pusheen says “PLEASE READ”
We NEED more helpers please!!! Quite a few of our regular and wonderful helpers now have other commitments, and are unable to help in the canteen. As a result, other regulars have been doing extra days, which I greatly appreciate. However, this is not fair, and it is not sustainable. Please come in and help if you can, even if it is just for an hour or two. There are many gaps in the roster for these last few weeks, at both sites.
