What a great first week at PHPS!
Thank you to all students, staff and parents for an amazing first week. It was as smooth a transition as it is ever going to be. We have had a few new families enrol at our school which is wonderful and I warmly welcome them to our fabulous community. The school has grown from 22 classes in 2019 to 23 classes for 2020. As my note last week stated there has been some staff changes and these people have made a wonderful start and I am looking forward to the role they play in educating our students.
Kindergarten 2020
Our 73 beautiful Kindergarten students began their learning journey yesterday. It was great to see so many smiling faces keen to begin their learning journey. Thank you so much to the P&C for organising the Tea ’n ’Tissues morning tea. It was great to see our new parents and experienced ones getting together to celebrate the beginning of school.
Classes for 2020
This year, like other years, we have formed some multi-age (composite) classes for 2020. Multi-age classes are formed at most schools due to our staffing formula and school numbers. All our 23 classes are even and equitable in every way. Each class has a range of students in them to ensure that no one is academically or socially isolated. Many hours have been spent by staff last year and this year formulating each class giving every child consideration. Each teacher is responsible for the learning of every child in their class, and often in a straight class you will find a huge range of academic abilities. Research also highlights the positives for students in a composite class, such as; independence, responsibility and study habits. If you still have any queries please contact your child’s teacher to discuss.
Meet the Teacher Night
During week 4 we will have our Meet the Teacher night where it is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher/s for 2020. This night is about being informed about your child’s class. It is not an opportunity to talk with the teacher about your child’s individual needs. For these types of discussions please arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher.
For Kindergarten and Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) please meet in the hall on the K-2 site at your respective times and for Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) and Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) please meet in the COLA on the 3-6 site.
Kindergarten (This includes K/1R) is on Wednesday 19 February at 5pm.
Stage 1 is on Wednesday 19 February at 6pm.
Stage 2 is on Thursday 20 February at 5pm.
Stage 3 is on Thursday 20 February at 6pm.
Communication
Communication at any school is the key to a successful relationship. I encourage you to read the newsletter that comes out each Tuesday, download the School SZapp and search for Pennant Hills Public School, and if you are new provide your email to the Class Parent for each class. These forms of communication will ensure that you are kept up to date with what is happening at school and in your child’s class. If you are ever in doubt about where to go for help, please contact the school’s office on 9484 1134.
P&C Meeting
This month’s P&C meeting is on tonight. It begins at 7:30pm and is in the hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back from their Summer break and welcome all of our new families. The students have settled in really well this year and are off to a wonderful start on their learning journey for 2020.
Staff profiles
Each week I will be uploading a 1 page profile on a PHPS staff member so our community gets to know us all a bit better. This week, we start with Mr Pinchbeck. Please find his profile below.
Professional Learning
Thank you to the families who attended our information session at the end of last year regarding our school directions for 2020. For those who were unable to attend, our main focus for 2020 is on improving our student outcomes in mathematics. This means that we are spending a lot of time developing our teachers and their professional knowledge to ensure we are catering to the needs, abilities and concept understanding of our students. We will be updating our community on our development as the year progresses before P&C meetings. More information about this will be given as the time approaches.
Leadership Camp
Each year in Term 1, 40 primary schools in our local area send Year 6 student leaders to the Combined Networks Primary Leadership Camp at Vision Valley. Tomorrow, Jessica, Joel, Kirrily and Harry will take up the challenge of our Regional Leadership Camp. The aim of the camp is to enhance students' leadership skills at the beginning of their Year 6 year. They will explore communication skills, leadership styles, decision making and action plans, public speaking, problem solving, team building activities and peer support. We wish them a very happy, educational few days.
Kind regards,
Mrs Kate Wasson

What is the P&C?
The P&C (Parents and Citizens Association) works in partnership with the school to support and advance the resources available to our children and to build community within the school. It is a forum for all parents and guardians, school staff and community members to be involved.

President’s Address
Welcome back everyone! Whether you’re returning from last year or are brand new to our school, we hope you had an amazing holiday and look forward to the year ahead! We especially welcome all our new little friends, who start Kindy this year. We wish you all the best of luck and hope you enjoy your first of many years at our school! To all our returning families, we all remember how daunting the first year is, so please reach out and help them to feel welcome and part of our fantastic community.
A very special thank you to everyone who helped out at the Tea and Tissues morning tea for incoming kindergarten parents. Thank you also to all the parents who supplied a plate of delicious food to help ease the separation.
We have a huge year ahead with lots of changes already and more to come like the Ramsay x Greycliffe Project at the 3-6 site. Plus many more projects to make our school look great and more importantly provide what’s needed to give our kids the best opportunity to learn and flourish!
If you have any time or any ideas, come along and join our amazing P&C, it’s the best around and will only get better with your help and your ideas. Don’t forget, what ever YOU put in, only enhances YOUR child’s education and experiences at our school.
Our first P&C meeting for the year is this Tuesday 4th February 7.30pm at the School Hall, located in the K-2 site. It will be a very informal ‘meet and greet’ followed by a brief meeting. It’s really an opportunity to meet the P&C executive, as well as the Principal, Mr Pinchbeck and Deputy Principal, Mrs Wasson - and to see how the School and the P&C work so well together in providing our kids with the best opportunities to learn and enjoy their schooling. P&C meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month and we would encourage you to come along, join other committed families and support your kids in getting the best equipment, facilities, grounds and education experience they can! All the hard work and money we raise goes straight back, directly into our kids and their futures.
Look forward to seeing you soon and have an awesome term.
