Covid-19 Update
As restrictions ease, more within NSW, schools are also able to move more towards the old routines. From next term, PSSA will begin from Week 5 for the Summer competition, Scripture will return to normal, the canteen will be open for purchases during recess on the 3-6 site, class photos and some excursions will recommence. Some strategies will also remain in place to protect everyone. The main one for parents is the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Our current practices will remain in place until further notice to protect the health and wellbeing of the adults.
Thank you for all your support during this term with all the necessary changes that have taken place.
2021 Enrolment
We are now taking enrolments for 2021. If you have a child starting Kindergarten next year, or know of a local family that does, please call in to one of the school’s offices for an enrolment form/pack. As most of you would be aware, approximately this time last year the NSW Department of Education updated its Enrolment Policy. All schools were given a cap number. This number is not a limit on the number of local students allowed to enrol at the school, but it does limit the school’s ability to accept non-local enrolments. For those families who already have children at our school and do not live in our local catchment area and have a sibling who you would like to enrol, you will need to complete an out of area application. Please note that PHPS is well over its capped number and as such, it is only permitted to accept non-local enrolments that have exceptional or extenuating circumstances. A panel led by Mrs Wasson will consider all non-local applications and make their recommendations. I then discuss those recommendations with Mr Mark Anderson – Director Educational Leadership (Hornsby) and we make a decision and notify each family.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all the parents and carers who have taken the time to participate in the Parent/Teacher interviews. From all accounts, this has been a positive experience for all concerned. We thank you for being a part of your child’s educational journey. We all know how important it is for the students to know that parents and teachers are working together to support them.
Survey of Covid-19 Times
Like all areas of society, Covid-19 has seen many changes thrust upon us. The following survey has been designed by the school to ascertain your views on how the school performed during this time. Your feedback is welcomed and the results will be considered as we plan for the new School Improvement Plan, which begins next year. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes and we thank you for taking the time to provide your thoughts.

Whilst the survey will ask for your email address to allow you to complete the survey your responses are anonymous. We suggest that you use a Google account to complete the survey, as it is more user friendly and easier to navigate.
Principal’s Pizza Lunch
Today we held our Principal’s lunch for students who had earnt three Principal's Awards. All the students had a great time and are to be congratulated for their fine efforts.
Happy Holidays!
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. We hope that wherever you venture you are safe and have a memorable time. This period will be a little different than normal, however, thankfully a little more flexible than the last vacation period. Students return to school on Tuesday 21 July. Stay safe and well.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Thank you
The Pennant Hills community is an amazing one. This community would not be as wonderful as it is without the hard work and dedication of the people in it. Our teachers consistently strive for what is best for our students, our students work hard to meet their full potential and exceed expectations and our families are supportive of the school and our goals for the future. Thank you to each of these groups for ensuring that the Pennant Hills P.S community continues in the truest meaning of community, during the most recent difficult times of Covid-19. Thank you. We wish you all a wonderful and restful holiday and look forward to seeing you safe and well in Term 3.
Around the school
Most mornings at Pennant Hills Public School begin with a literacy focus. Below is a photo of K/1R participating in their literacy groups. The focus during literacy group sessions changes depending on the needs of the students and incorporates a variety of engaging activities including independent reading, writing, spelling, phonics, memory games, iPad support and reading with the teacher. K/1R were very engaged!
3R were also engaged in a literacy session yesterday morning and I captured them completing a paired spelling activity. Sometimes classrooms may look like they are in disorder; some students at their desks, some on the floor or out in a corridor, some working with a teacher or student support officer, but the majority of the time this is a reflection of engaged learners who are working within different grouping structures and sharing their thoughts and ideas.
Below are some photos of 1S working on their posters to share with the rest of Stage One. This term they have been researching a country of their choice and developing an informative text. To support this learning they have recently been working on a marketing document, either a travel brochure or poster, to advertise their chosen country as a destination of interest. Well done 1S!
Staff Profile
Speaking of 1S, the staff profile for this week is for Ms Steel. Ms Steel is a targeted graduate who joined the Pennant Hills team at the beginning of 2019. She is keen to engage in professional learning and always has the best interests of her students at the heart of her teaching. Thank you for sharing your profile Ms Steele!
Kind Regards

This Semester, Stage Two have been learning about well known pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
The students have enjoyed using a variety of pop art techniques and fabulous bright colours to create fun and vibrant pieces!
The students have had so much fun in Art, they decided to form a lunch time art club where they can develop their creative skills in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
There will be NO JULY MEETING of the P&C as the first Tuesday falls in the School Holidays.
See you at the next meeting on Tuesday 4 August at 7:30pm.

Green Team Update
Not only does our school have fantastic gardens on both K-2 and 3-6 sites, but we take a holistic approach when it comes to feeding the gardens. Both sites have compost bins that are regularly looked after. When the time is right, the compost goes straight back into the gardens to provide an extra boost of nutrients for whatever happens to be growing.
If you’re keen to get started straight away, check out the Hornsby Council site - https://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/property/waste/organic-waste/Compost-and-Worm-Farming. When you complete the online ‘I Dig Compost’ tutorial, Hornsby Shire residents are eligible for 50% off compost bins and worm farms.

As we go into the school holidays after a unique term that no one has experienced before, we wish you all a fantastic holiday and break away. Whether you’re staying at home or travelling away we hope you have a fantastic break with safe travels and see you all in the new term.

Parent Helpers
Parent helpers must sign and return the ‘External Visitor’ form to the band email address that was emailed to all the band parents last week. This must be done the day before rehearsal at a minimum as rehearsals cannot go ahead if we have not received these forms.
During rehearsal, the parent helper may need to remain outside the room. The social distancing rules imposed on band rehearsals mean there can only be 16 people inside the band room at one time.
Rehearsal Procedures
At the beginning of rehearsal each student is to wash their hands at the washing station inside the room.
All students are to leave their school bags and instrument cases outside. If it is raining (not just a wet ground), school bags can be placed under their chair and instrument case next to their chair.
At the end of rehearsal one student at the end of each row is to take a cleaning wipe from the packets and wipe down the seats and sheet music stands – high touch areas only. There is no need to wipe the pole of the stand or legs or the chairs.
Finally, for the Thursday morning rehearsal, where SCB and JB rehearse, the SCB students who do not play in JB will remain outside the K-2 site band room with the parent helper until 8:45am. Please ensure that your child understands this.
Are you thinking about joining the band program either now or next year? Please contact us. We are always keen to hear from people who would like to join.
