Dear parents and carers,
Welcome to Term 2!
This term is going to look very different from what we are used to at school. I would like to thank each and every family for their continued support as we navigate our way through this situation, which continues to change every few days, thankfully not hourly like several weeks ago. With your continued support, it is making decisions and planning a lot easier and I would ask that you continue to follow the advice/requests being made of you to continue to win the battle over Covid-19. Your continued support is going to be crucial in the coming weeks as we plan for students to return to school one day per week from Week 3. We greatly appreciate all those parents who are helping us keep our staff and students safe by keeping their children home if they can do so. The staged return and associated dual lesson delivery model can only work with reduced student numbers on each day.
Weeks 1 and 2 are the same as the end of Term 1 where parents are encouraged to keep their children at home if they are able to do so. School is open for those families that are not able to do so.
Here you will find the links for the Learning at Home for Weeks 1 & 2. Years 2-6 are relying on Google Classrooms to support the process of learning and all students are encouraged to keep doing their best during this difficult time. Families with students in Kindergarten and Year 1 are being asked to download SeeSaw to support this process. These platforms make it easier for you to access your child’s learning and also submit work back to the teacher for assessing. Hard copies are also available from the school’s office if this is easier for you.

As I have mentioned before please access and complete the learning that you are able to during this time. Please do not feel that all the learning provided needs to be completed. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher through SeeSaw, Google Classrooms or email the school email account; pennanthil-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au During the holidays, schools received further advice for learning provided for students in each stage. You will see this advice reflected in the work being set from Week 3, as the teachers had already prepared the work for the first two weeks before we received that advice.
Today has been made a Staff Development Day for schools to begin planning for Week 3 and beyond. I thank all families for their support of the school as we begin to work through the logistics of this return to school. The Premier is eager for all students to re-engage with school in all grades, one day per week to begin with. I will provide the community with the exact plan in the coming days as we navigate all the recommendations. The following link provides the approach that the Government is taking with students returning to school.

When Week 3 comes around I am really going to need families to continue to follow the advice and requests from the school so I can ensure that we can implement all the recommendations provided to ensure the wellbeing and health of students, staff and parents. I thank you in advance for supporting the school during this difficult time.
The Health advice remains the same as it has done through this situation. The NSW Department of Education (DoE) has advised schools to follow certain guidelines to ensure the wellbeing and safety of students, staff and parents. The following link will provide you with information from NSW Health about schools, and the guidelines that are being recommended by the NSW DoE to support students and staff returning to school.

At school we will continue hand washing on a regular basis for the students, limiting physical contact, regular school cleaning throughout the day and many other strategies to support everyone’s wellbeing and health.
Thank you for all that you are doing to support your child’s education through this difficult time. We are all in this together and we are all doing our best. If you have any questions about your child’s learning please make contact with their teacher.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back
I also wanted to welcome everyone back to PHPS in Term 2. Although we are not seeing all of your faces everyday, we feel your presence and please know that all of the teachers miss the students immensely! We hope you have had some wonderful family time recently.
ANZAC day
Our commemoration of ANZAC day was slightly different this year. We hope you enjoyed the recording our leaders presented and Elle’s rendition of the Last Post and Rouse. If you would like to review them, please view our school website under ‘Latest News’.
I have received a few photos of students participating in ANZAC day. Please find pictures below of Lucas acknowledging his neighbours as returned and current service men and women and Oscar playing the Australian national anthem on his saxophone at his street dawn service. Well done!
Did your street participate in ANZAC day? Many people ventured to the end of their driveway with a candle before 6am and listened to the service on ABC radio. Some were lucky enough to have people in the neighbourhood who played the Last Post and Rouse.
We may not have been able to commemorate ANZAC day as we would normally, however the spirit of this national day of remembrance was still with us. Lest we forget.
Learning from Home
As our Learning from Home model continues, we love seeing the fabulous work that our students are completing! School life continues albeit differently, it is wonderful to see the happy smiles on the faces of our merit award recipients.
Staff profile
We will continue to share some of our staff profiles so you can get to know our fabulous teachers, administration staff and SLSO’s (Student Learning Support Officers) better!
This week we have Mrs Anne McLaren who is currently the teacher on 4M.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson
Deputy Principal
A poem written by Rebecca W - 6P
A World Without Music
Once the world was heavenly
When the streets were filled with melody
When you could see who you are
A bright and shining yellow star.
We used to hear the beautiful rhythm
The soothing kind, that would stay with them.
But now when I’m amongst the street
There is no longer any beat
So now we all must be aware
That our lives will be nothing but spiralling despair
There is no orchestra nor a band
Oh how now it’s all so bland
Changes to Scholastic Book Club – Issue 3
Due to the COVID-19 situation Scholastic Australia will not be distributing Book Club catalogues to the school this term. Instead, a “Virtual Catalogue” for Issue 3 can be viewed via this link. Orders will still be delivered to the school for distribution.
If you wish to order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register/update your details if you haven’t already done so and then pay by credit card. After the closing date for that issue your order will be sent directly to the school and distributed.
How do I register and order?
- Go to the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website to register your details. You will need to enter your name, email address and a password. Click on “Add new child” and using the drop down menu locate our school and your child’s class. If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order with only one child to save time.
- Enter your child’s first name and their surname initial. Please note that Scholastic does not share student details with third parties or use this information for marketing purposes. This information is for distribution for when the order arrives at the school.
- Click on “ORDER “ and enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue. Follow the prompts to make payment by credit card.
- All orders are then processed after the closing date and delivered to the school to be distributed.
The closing date for online orders is Friday 8 May.
