Welcome back to Term 3!
Term 3 promises to be a more normal experience for all students. Scripture will begin in Week 3. Some of our wonderful volunteers have unfortunately indicated that they are not able to return at this point in time. If your child’s Scripture group is impacted, you will shortly receive a letter asking you to select an alternative until normal classes resume.
We welcome back many of our staff who have been working from home during Term 2. As a school we are nearly back to normal in this space. Thank you everyone for their patience and understanding in this area. Please note that all staff are being encouraged to stay at home if they are unwell. This will likely mean that each class will have a casual teacher from time to time as needed.
At this stage excursions that are conducted by the NSW Department of Education and do not require specific social distancing measures to be included, are able to proceed. These include field trips to Environmental Educational Centres which are run by NSW Department of Education staff.
We are still not able to hold any event that involves adults on site. This means that Education Week will look very different this year. We are going to produce a video showcasing all the fantastic work in each class and group. This will be placed on the school’s website for all to see. Thanks to Ms Stephens for her leadership in this area.
As we all know things are likely to change. I will continue to keep you informed of any changes that impact the school.
Enrolment
We are now taking enrolments for 2021. If you have a child starting Kindergarten next year, or know of a local family that does, please call in to one of the school’s offices for an enrolment form/pack. As most of you would be aware about this time last year the NSW Department of Education updated its Enrolment Policy. All schools were given a cap number. This number is not a limit on the number of local students allowed to enrol at the school, but it does limit the school’s ability to accept non-local enrolments.
For those families who already have children at our school and do not live in our local catchment area you will need to complete an "out of area application". However, please note that PHPS is well over its cap number and as such, it is only permitted to accept non-local enrolments that have exceptional or extenuating circumstances. A panel led by Mrs Wasson will consider all non-local applications and make their recommendations. I then discuss those recommendations with Mr Mark Anderson – Director Educational Leadership (Hornsby) and we make a decision and notify each family.
Reports
Due to Covid-19, Semester One reports will be sent home on Monday 10 August 2020. The NSW Department of Education has granted schools extra time to prepare the reports due to this extraordinary event. As I have previously mentioned this year we are implementing a new reporting format, which we believe will provide families a greater insight into their child’s learning progress and save teachers time in preparing the reports. This new format will be evident this semester. The difference is that for this semester only, the teachers will not be awarding an A-E grade, however, the reports will highlight the student’s progress with their learning for this semester. The new format will also be able to take into account individual circumstances where the student may not have covered some learning activities during ‘Learning at Home’ and therefore teachers have been unable to accurately assess their learning.
Pennant Hills High School – High Potential and Gifted Program
The test for entry into Pennant Hills High School’s High Potential & Gifted Program (HIPAG) will take place on Friday 31 July 2020. You would have already registered for this opportunity as it was originally scheduled for earlier in the year. This is a friendly reminder as the date is now confirmed.
Kind Regards

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back
As Mr Pinchbeck has already said, ‘Welcome back!’ This term is beginning to look and feel a little more familiar and we hope to continue along this positive trajectory. Thank you to our wonderful parents and carers who continuously do the right thing and ensure they adhere to our social distancing strategies, you are keeping us all safe. Below is a picture of some of the Year 1 parents at 3:13pm one afternoon in Term 2 – a demonstration of most parents adhering to social distancing and greatly appreciated by all staff here at Pennant Hills.
Around the school
At the end of last term I popped into one of the Kindergarten classes who were amid an experiment to support their science and English unit. They are researching living things and what they produce, with a focus on farms. In the photo below, you can see Evie displaying the butter that her class made by shaking heavy cream and marbles.
3-6 Assemblies
The school leaders have done a great job at organising themes for the 3-6 assemblies each week via Zoom. The last week of Term 2 saw the crazy socks theme with some amazing socks on display. Prior to that we’ve had hats and glasses themes. Thank you to our leaders for creating these engaging assemblies but also ensuring that the formalities of an assembly are still adhered to.
This week the staff profile is for Mrs Buttrey. Mrs Buttrey has recently returned from maternity leave and works 3 days a week with 3B and also wears the hat of Assistant Principal. Thank you for sharing your profile Mrs Buttrey!
Kind Regards
Mrs Kate Wasson

Welcome back to term 3 of what is the strangest school year we’ve ever experienced. With COVID-19 outbreaks happening again in NSW, it is good to remember that spending time outside in nature can help relieve stress for both kids as well as grown-ups.
Whether in your own garden big or small, out on a bush walk, on a walk to the local park or around the neighbourhood, outside activities in nature gives you time to breathe in fresh air and to move those muscles.
Need some ideas to encourage your kids to go on a walk?
- Play ‘I spy’ with a colour. You may be surprised at how many things you find.
- See how many different shaped leaves you can find on your wa
lk. If they are on the ground, you may collect them and paint them at home.
- It’s a great time see fungi at the moment – how many different types can you spot in the bush?
What games do you play when you’re out on a walk? We’d love to hear your ideas or see your photos!

WELCOME TO TERM 3!!!
We are very excited to be back.
In light of the recent setbacks with Covid 19, for at least the first few weeks we will be operating the same as last term with online orders only.
We will wait and see how things pan out.
The few offers of help for K-2 has been wonderful!!
More volunteers are needed at both sites for things to run smoothly once we are back to full service.
At this stage, I have no one to help at 3-6 next Wednesday or Thursday. If you can assist at all, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you for ordering!! On the last day of term we had 236 orders!! Woohoo!
Remember to check out our delicious HOT FOOD options on Flexischools.
Recess orders are available for the 3-6 site only.
This week’s roster:
Since there are no over the counter sales, we do not need any help for the K-2 site.
3-6 Site:
Wednesday 22 July - Julianne.
Thursday 23 July - Lisa S.
