Schools Spectacular
Last week 29 very excited, and now tired, students participated in Schools Spectacular. Schools Spectacular is a showcase of the talents and opportunities available to students in NSW Public Schools. It was an amazing experience for the students. Each of their performances from all accounts were fantastic. I had the privilege of watching the Friday evening performance and was thoroughly entertained. So much of the credit needs to go to the students for their support of this program. The work of Mrs Griffith, Mrs Cox, Mrs Newman is to be acknowledged and the extraordinary work and support from Ms Stevens. Without these teachers and their involvement, the students would not have received this wonderful opportunity.
Student Leadership
Yesterday 20 very nervous Year 5 students delivered their speech as to why they would make a good leader. All the speeches were of a very high quality and I was very impressed with the qualities they mentioned. Public Speaking is often very challenging for children and they all did a fabulous job.
Today I had the unenviable task of notifying the Leadership Candidates of who were the students to form the Leadership Team. During this chat, I spoke with the students about many things. One of which was the fact that you do not need a badge to be a leader. I look forward to working with all of year 6 next year and the Leadership team.
The House Captain and CAPA Captain positions will be determined over the coming days in readiness for our Celebration of Learning next Friday.
Kinderlinks
Today also saw the last Kinderlinks session for 2019. It culminated with a little performance by next year’s Kindergarten students. They did a great job and thoroughly enjoyed their performance. We very much look forward to these boys and girls beginning at big school next year. Thank you to Miss Parras and her team for arranging and running an excellent transition program for next year’s Kindergarten students.
Greycliffe Ave Crossing Supervisor
Yesterday I was notified by Minister Keen’s office that the long awaited Crossing Supervisor for Greycliffe Ave will begin this Thursday. Whilst it has been a while in the making, I am sure you will all agree that it will be of great benefit for the safety of the students as they come to, and leave, school each day. I thank you for your patience around this matter.
Movember
As the last week of the Movember Campaign comes around, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person who has donated some money or taken the time to thank me for being a part of this campaign. I must confess that I am looking forward to removing the ‘Mo’, however, it has certainly been worthwhile and for a great cause. So far, I have raised nearly $1300, which is more than I imagined. Please enjoy the updated photo in this section and I will include a final photo in next week’s newsletter. Thanks again for all your support. If you would like to donate, you can do so at this address https://mobro.co/mattpinchbeck?mc=1.
Boundary Road Changes
Yesterday I received a phone call from Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) to advise me further of the changes that are going to take place on Boundary Road. Several weeks ago in the newsletter, I provided the community with a flyer of the proposed changes. These changes will see Boundary Road become a ‘Clearway’ at certain times. I was told that work will begin on Monday 2 December to change the necessary signs and the ‘Clearway’ will come in to effect on Monday 9 December. Please be aware if you use this road to pick up or drop off for school.
This is the text from the email for your information.
Roads and Maritime Services is installing new clearways on Boundary Road and New Line Road between Pennant Hills Road, Pennant Hills and Old Northern Road, Dural.
The clearways will be operational from Monday 9 December 2019.
The clearways will apply between 6am to 7pm on weekdays and 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays in both directions.
The new clearways will connect to the existing clearways on Pennant Hills Road and are expected to improve journey reliability between Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook and Dural, as well as other surrounding suburbs.
The new clearways will allow Roads and Maritime to respond quicker to vehicles that stop illegally or breakdown along the corridor.
New No Stopping restrictions will also be installed along sections of Boundary Road and New Line Road, mainly at intersections, to improve safety.
NAPLAN/2020 Teacher Professional Learning
On Tuesday 3 December at 6:30pm in the school hall Mrs Wasson and I will be presenting whole school NAPLAN data from this year and trends over the last few years. At this presentation we will also talk about the future professional learning for staff in 2020 and what this means for your children. I encourage you to attend this session if you are available. Due to the P&C having their December meeting starting at 7pm we will be happily discussing this up until 7pm. We intend on this session being an interactive and are looking forward to seeing you there. Please feel free to hang around after 7pm to celebrate with the P&C the year’s achievements.
P&C
Next Tuesday evening at 7pm (in the School Hall) is the last P&C meeting for the year. This meeting is about celebrating the amazing achievements of the P&C for 2019. I encourage everyone to attend. The P&C supports the school in many areas and without their support, we would not operate as effectively. If you have never been to a P&C meeting before this is certainly the one to attend first. I look forward to seeing you there.
Kind Regards
Mr Matt Pinchbeck

Year 5 Leadership Journey
The Year 5 nominees have been working very hard during the leadership campaign. The 20 students were lucky to be mentored by the current leadership team to write their speeches and for general inquiries into the process. Yesterday saw 20 amazing students deliver a speech to years 3-6, teachers and parents. They were brilliant! Congratulations to the 20 students in the running and all the best for the announcement of our 2020 leadership team.

Schools Spectacular
I was honoured and proud to attend the School Spectacular on Friday night. Pennant Hills students were so well-behaved and from all accounts performed brilliantly after tireless rehearsals. A mammoth effort and an amazing performance! I have never seen anything like nor had I been to School Spec before – I am so glad this was my first experience!
Congratulations students and Ms Stevens, a big thank you to Mrs Griffith, Mrs Cox and Ms Newman for volunteering their time.
Congratulations must also go to the Greycliffe choir for their performance at the Danish fete over the weekend! Thank you Ms Pinnuck for attending with the students.

STARS- We're all stars, so many stars!!
Wow! What a brilliant but busy week.
29 Ramsay Choir students were part of the Schools Spectacular; a show mentioned in the Guinness Book Of Records. Five and half thousand public school students (and teachers) took to the stage to showcase their singing, dancing, playing and acting talents. It was maginificent, awesome and truly spectacular!
Our students were part of the 2800 massed choir. We were up in the choir seats singing and dancing away to the likes of Men in Black, The Macarena, Timber, Counting Stars, I see Stars just to name a few.
Well done PHPS, you were brilliant! Huge thanks to Mrs Griffith, Mrs Cox and Miss Newman who came along to work and support the students. Although we were/are very tired, it was a wonderful shared experience. Personally, I achieved a career highlight being one of the conducting team, helping with the signing on the major choir floor item. It was an experience, never to be forgotten.
Thank you to all the parents for your help and support too - it was a long week.
The Schools Spectacular will be televised on the 7th December at 7 o'clock pm on Channel 7! Watch and enjoy!
And then there was more.....
On Saturday morning, members of the Greycliffe Choir sang at a local community event, the annual Danish Church fete. They donned their Santa hats and spread Christmas cheer. Well done to all of the children who sang. A HUGE congratulations and thank you to Kate Ashton who conducted the choir. She did a fantastic job. Thank you too, to Ms Anna Pinnuck, who supervised and organised the students on the day.
We are indeed stars.

THE GREEN TEAM
The benefits of trees
We all know that deforestation has had tragic repercussions for the climate and environment. Looking on the bright side by planting new trees we can turn back some of the damage that has been done to the planet, there are also smaller scale benefits;
- CLEANSING - Trees act as a filter for air pollution, absorbing gases and trapping particles on their foliage and bark
- CLIMATE CHANGE - By absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing Oxygen into the atmosphere trees combat climate change
- COOLING - Through their shade giving canopies trees cool the ground beneath them and provide protection from UV rays
- WATER SAVING - The shade from trees also reduce the need for garden irrigation, by slowing evaporation from lawns and other plants
- EROSION PREVENTION - Acting as a binding reinforcement tree roots protect the soil from erosion, while the leaves reduce the impact of rain
- SUSTENANCE - Even the smallest back yard or plot of land can accomodate a fruit tree or 2, some dwarf varieties can even grow happily in pots, a great option for renters
- HEALING - It has been revealed through scientific studies that the presence of trees in the lives of patients increases healing time and reduces complications.
- PEACEFUL - Statistically there is less violence in well planted suburbs than those without, trees are credited with reducing fear
- ECONOMIC BENEFITS - Studies have also shown the existence of landscaping in a neighbourhood can increase the value of residential property by up to 15% and the more plentiful the landscaping and tree life in business areas leads to an increase in business.
